- [00:00:14.180]that encourages women to succeed at UNL.
- [00:00:17.770]Recipients must demonstrate a sustained
- [00:00:20.200]and tangible impact on the campus community.
- [00:00:23.540]This year, I'm especially pleased
- [00:00:25.660]to recognize Jayde McWilliams,
- [00:00:27.720]Coordinator of Student Development in Nebraska Engineering.
- [00:00:31.560]Since joining the College of Engineering in 2017,
- [00:00:35.130]Jayde has been instrumental in the creation, development,
- [00:00:38.490]and growth of the Women in Engineering Program
- [00:00:41.550]and the Multicultural Engineering Program.
- [00:00:44.920]According to one of her nominators,
- [00:00:46.997]"Jayde's recruitment of women and advocacy
- [00:00:49.427]"for women in engineering
- [00:00:51.237]"is not only to improve diversity numbers,
- [00:00:54.347]"but to create a welcoming climate for students
- [00:00:56.877]"to find a sense of belonging
- [00:00:58.847]"and to thrive in the face of stereotype threats."
- [00:01:02.850]Since its founding,
- [00:01:04.050]the Women in Engineering Program
- [00:01:05.720]has recruited over 40 women.
- [00:01:08.620]With Jayde's support in advocacy,
- [00:01:10.720]the Women in Engineering cohorts retention rate
- [00:01:13.550]for the fall 2019 class was 92%
- [00:01:18.150]with an average 3.6 grade point average.
- [00:01:21.960]One-third of these women had a perfect 4.0.
- [00:01:26.962]Jayde's one-on-one monthly interactions
- [00:01:29.100]with students make a difference
- [00:01:31.050]according to Lance Perez, Dean of the College.
- [00:01:34.520]Jayde invests time and energy into each student
- [00:01:37.280]to help them become leaders in the community
- [00:01:39.810]and the engineering profession.
- [00:01:42.110]Monthly professional development events
- [00:01:44.340]and social activities engage students in a way
- [00:01:47.340]that according to another nominator,
- [00:01:49.567]"Reminds us that we belong
- [00:01:51.627]"here in the College of Engineering."
- [00:01:54.231]Jayde's collaborative style, her thoughtfulness,
- [00:01:57.130]enthusiasm, and initiative make her a role model
- [00:02:01.010]for students and colleagues alike.
- [00:02:03.830]In 2019, Jayde was presented
- [00:02:06.180]with an Advocate Appreciation Honor
- [00:02:08.240]at the Lavender Graduation here at UNL.

- [00:02:15.210]on their students' academic success and motivation.
- [00:02:19.420]Our campus is fortunate to have someone
- [00:02:21.630]with Jayde's tireless advocacy
