- [00:00:01.600]Perfect. All right, well again, good morning, everyone.
- [00:00:04.670]Or morning if you're in the central time zone,
- [00:00:07.390]or further west. Good afternoon to the rest of you.
- [00:00:11.420]I'm so glad you're joining us this morning
- [00:00:13.430]for the college of engineering session
- [00:00:15.450]for admitted students to talk about internships
- [00:00:17.640]and other ways that you can have opportunities to connect
- [00:00:21.130]with industry and experiential learning opportunities
- [00:00:24.880]that are gonna help set you up to be successful
- [00:00:26.950]engineers, construction managers, computer scientists,
- [00:00:29.670]whatever it is that you want to go on to do.
- [00:00:32.180]So my name's Jen Skidmore.
- [00:00:34.150]I use they, them, she, her pronouns and I am director
- [00:00:36.620]of student development for the college of engineering.
- [00:00:38.940]And within my role, I oversee engineering career services.
- [00:00:42.790]I've got two panelists with me today
- [00:00:44.540]I'm going to be asking some questions of, and I would love
- [00:00:48.540]for you all to ask some questions of them too.
- [00:00:50.930]'Cause that's what they're here for.
- [00:00:52.010]And so you don't need to unmute to do that,
- [00:00:54.110]but if you would drop your questions
- [00:00:56.904]into the chat either publicly or just to me,
- [00:01:00.210]if you want your questions to be anonymous,
- [00:01:01.970]and I will facilitate your question
- [00:01:03.700]without revealing who you are. All right.
- [00:01:06.650]So I'm going to ask Kara to introduce herself first.
- [00:01:11.300]Kara, if you could tell us a little bit about yourself,
- [00:01:13.720]where you work now, and what you studied at UNL.
- [00:01:17.800]Yeah. Hi, thanks Jen for having me on today,
- [00:01:20.210]and welcome to all the incoming students as well.
- [00:01:23.810]My name is Kara Kaczynski,
- [00:01:25.180]and I am an associate engineer at Olsson.
- [00:01:28.874]My background is in civil engineering.
- [00:01:32.650]I got my bachelor's degree
- [00:01:34.010]from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:01:36.980]I graduated in 2014 and have actually been
- [00:01:41.390]with Olsson a little bit before my graduation.
- [00:01:44.640]I started as an intern in the summer of 2013.
- [00:01:50.870]Thank you, Kara.
- [00:01:51.770]And then our student panelists on the call today.
- [00:01:54.500]Ethan, could you tell us name, pronouns,
- [00:01:57.130]what you're studying, your hometown,
- [00:01:58.840]and kind of some things you're involved in on campus?
- [00:02:01.350]Yeah. Hey everybody.
- [00:02:02.830]My name's Ethan Yungdahl, I use he him pronouns.
- [00:02:05.787]I'm a senior mechanical engineering major
- [00:02:08.610]with a minor in business.
- [00:02:09.840]I'm from a small town in the middle of Nebraska.
- [00:02:12.680]It's called Osceola, it's right between York and Columbus.
- [00:02:16.530]Some things that I'm involved with on campus
- [00:02:18.810]are our engineering student advisory board.
- [00:02:20.880]It's kind of like student council for the college
- [00:02:22.400]of engineering, along with our aerospace team.
- [00:02:26.770]Awesome. Great. All right.
- [00:02:28.650]So again, the theme of today's chat is
- [00:02:30.410]around internships and those opportunities.
- [00:02:32.840]And so I'm gonna start with Kara, could you talk to us
- [00:02:36.540]about maybe an internship that you had, what that looked
- [00:02:41.230]like, and maybe a highlight from that for us?
- [00:02:45.490]Yeah, absolutely.
- [00:02:46.732]So, as I had mentioned,
- [00:02:48.270]I'd started as an intern at Olsson in 2013.
- [00:02:51.678]And that was really my only internship
- [00:02:55.111]that I did have in college.
- [00:02:57.010]And it was a really great experience.
- [00:02:59.230]And I would say kind of two really big highlights
- [00:03:02.800]of that internship, you know, the first one
- [00:03:05.810]kind of being that I was able to work on actual projects
- [00:03:10.410]when I started on at Olsson, throughout that internship.
- [00:03:13.760]You know, it wasn't as if they were
- [00:03:16.030]kind of just giving me fictitious, you know,
- [00:03:18.700]things to be working on or things to be keeping me busy.
- [00:03:22.779]As my previous supervisor said,
- [00:03:25.200]I wasn't just filling up the coffee.
- [00:03:27.280]And, you know, I was actually working on projects that were,
- [00:03:31.960]you know, going out for bid and going out to construction,
- [00:03:35.320]so could really see kind of the fruits of our labors.
- [00:03:38.830]And that was really very satisfying actually
- [00:03:42.470]to kind of just see the projects
- [00:03:45.246]that I was working on come to life.
- [00:03:47.250]And then the second highlight, I would say
- [00:03:49.440]of the internship program that I was part of,
- [00:03:52.560]is it helped me gain employment right out of college.
- [00:03:56.330]So just a really easy way to kind of transition
- [00:04:00.320]into my full-time career right outside of college,
- [00:04:04.230]and very easy on the stress levels
- [00:04:08.580]I guess I would say too, it wasn't, you know,
- [00:04:11.100]super stressful to try to find something or, you know,
- [00:04:14.290]kind of the big question of what am I going to do
- [00:04:17.040]after I'm through with my time at the university.
- [00:04:20.470]So two pretty big highlights there.
- [00:04:24.630]Thanks Kara.
- [00:04:25.463]Yeah. That's great that you have that opportunity
- [00:04:27.270]at your organization to intern, decide you liked it there,
- [00:04:30.240]and had an offer to continue working there
- [00:04:32.260]and there you are, still there. So that's awesome.
- [00:04:35.490]Ethan, could you talk to us about any internships you've had
- [00:04:39.210]and maybe a highlight of one of those for us too?
- [00:04:42.880]Yeah, for sure. So I've had two internships.
- [00:04:44.940]One with Kiewit construction.
- [00:04:46.500]I went down to Dallas, Texas
- [00:04:48.410]and worked on a freeway system.
- [00:04:50.460]So that was pretty awesome.
- [00:04:51.420]And then I've also interned with Valmont Industries up
- [00:04:54.010]in Omaha as a manufacturing engineer intern.
- [00:04:57.095]Honestly, I'm going to definitely be echoing Kara, or, yeah.
- [00:05:01.432]And just say like, I didn't expect to go in
- [00:05:04.027]and be an engineer and do engineering work.
- [00:05:06.940]I definitely, I kind of expected more
- [00:05:08.570]of just like general work that they would give me,
- [00:05:11.900]and being an intern, you're working
- [00:05:14.400]as an engineer, with engineers on projects
- [00:05:16.630]that will actually go into production.
- [00:05:18.030]And that's just something that I really enjoyed.
- [00:05:22.370]Thanks, Ethan. That's awesome.
- [00:05:23.650]And it's great to hear too, that you found opportunities
- [00:05:26.720]beyond Nebraska to kind of check that out.
- [00:05:28.870]What's living in Dallas like,
- [00:05:30.230]for example, and that's pretty common.
- [00:05:32.490]Some of our students explore, you know,
- [00:05:34.310]where might I want to go, if not staying in Nebraska
- [00:05:37.106]after my degree in an internship is kind of
- [00:05:39.830]a great way to get a sense of that.
- [00:05:42.330]So Kara, back to you,
- [00:05:44.210]how do you feel your internship opportunity helped you grow
- [00:05:48.830]and be prepared for the career
- [00:05:51.080]that you're in now as a civil engineer?
- [00:05:54.320]Yeah, it was really quite the same
- [00:05:56.750]as I had kind of stated earlier too, you know.
- [00:05:59.440]I was getting to work on actual projects.
- [00:06:01.440]And so I was really able to, you know,
- [00:06:04.300]establish that foundation as far as, you know,
- [00:06:07.980]kind of learning the ropes and expanding
- [00:06:10.110]upon the things that I was learning in the classroom.
- [00:06:13.391]So, you know, all of our coursework definitely
- [00:06:16.350]was able to kind of help us to learn
- [00:06:19.148]and think in the ways of, you know,
- [00:06:21.823]what the engineers do and everything like that.
- [00:06:24.300]But then through my internship
- [00:06:26.040]I'm really able to kind of build upon that
- [00:06:29.038]and have the building blocks of, you know,
- [00:06:31.710]actually designing projects
- [00:06:34.190]and doing traffic impact studies.
- [00:06:36.740]I guess I probably never said that,
- [00:06:38.270]but I am a traffic and technology engineer,
- [00:06:41.820]and so doing those impact studies and
- [00:06:43.740]and everything like that.
- [00:06:44.700]So just getting that real experience that would, you know,
- [00:06:49.050]kind of help build upon the foundation of, you know,
- [00:06:52.660]the fundamentals I was learning in the classroom.
- [00:06:56.450]Thanks Kara.
- [00:06:57.283]That kind of dovetails into my next question for Ethan
- [00:06:59.750]which is, you know, in what ways do you feel
- [00:07:02.340]that your internship experiences have helped you grow
- [00:07:07.230]and develop and maybe in relation to your coursework?
- [00:07:12.400]That's actually a great question.
- [00:07:14.120]So I would say what I've really developed
- [00:07:16.753]through my internships is, first,
- [00:07:18.580]with the Keiwit internship,
- [00:07:19.560]I really enjoyed the people that I worked with
- [00:07:21.470]but I also got to learn a lot about
- [00:07:23.120]a lot of things that I didn't enjoy
- [00:07:25.430]or didn't want to see in a company that I might work for.
- [00:07:27.920]Not saying that Keiwit's a bad company,
- [00:07:29.640]I've absolutely loved the internship.
- [00:07:31.900]There were just like, I'm a mechanical engineering student
- [00:07:34.450]and I was doing civil engineering work.
- [00:07:36.010]So I learned that.
- [00:07:37.468]And with the Valmont internship
- [00:07:39.760]I've learned that I really enjoy the manufacturing side
- [00:07:43.010]of things and working on design.
- [00:07:44.530]So I hope to work with that going into the future.
- [00:07:48.020]As far as how this reflects into my coursework,
- [00:07:50.530]time management is a big thing
- [00:07:52.090]and making sure that you're sticking to your project
- [00:07:55.300]on time is a skill that I had to pick up very quickly.
- [00:07:58.187]And it's definitely been paying off this semester,
- [00:08:00.800]so that's awesome.
- [00:08:02.880]Yeah. I think that's one
- [00:08:04.146]of the great things that you can take away.
- [00:08:04.979]Not just experience to put on your resume
- [00:08:06.930]and learning about is this still the right field for me?
- [00:08:10.010]Sometimes we learn like working
- [00:08:11.600]at one organization feels great to one person
- [00:08:14.270]but maybe isn't the right fit for us,
- [00:08:15.770]but it helps us pinpoint where we want to be.
- [00:08:18.860]And I like, too, what you said about
- [00:08:20.420]it helps you develop time management
- [00:08:21.990]and other like non-technical skills too
- [00:08:24.550]that you do have to kind of learn through experience.
- [00:08:28.330]Kara, my next question for you.
- [00:08:29.940]Now that you're working at one of our top employers,
- [00:08:34.410]actually, you know, what does Olsson offer
- [00:08:37.070]in terms of internships for, you know,
- [00:08:39.800]upcoming engineering students
- [00:08:41.310]like those who've joined us today,
- [00:08:43.040]and is there anything unique
- [00:08:44.430]about Nebraska engineering graduates
- [00:08:46.430]that you all continue to hire our students
- [00:08:48.220]at such a high volume?
- [00:08:49.970]Yeah, absolutely.
- [00:08:50.960]So there's quite a few different opportunities
- [00:08:54.130]for internships through Olsson and other employers,
- [00:08:59.500]you know, similar to Olsson
- [00:09:01.290]and other consulting firms and other public agencies.
- [00:09:05.200]But when I had started as an intern, I actually had started
- [00:09:07.395]through the Mid-America Transportation Center
- [00:09:11.651]which is kind of a subsidiary to the university.
- [00:09:16.810]And so, you know, back when I was applying
- [00:09:20.560]for my internship positions, they had a program,
- [00:09:24.746]it was a really great program that helped kind of
- [00:09:29.773]align you with appropriate employers.
- [00:09:33.870]And then in addition to that, you know,
- [00:09:36.040]taught kind of the ropes of how to be
- [00:09:39.340]a professional engineer and, you know,
- [00:09:43.420]just interviewing skills,
- [00:09:46.312]and those different types of things.
- [00:09:48.650]And so Olsson participates in, you know,
- [00:09:52.120]the MATC program and things like that.
- [00:09:54.300]So really there's quite a few different avenues,
- [00:09:57.216]you know, to gain employment.
- [00:09:58.980]So through programs like the MATC program
- [00:10:01.797]or just directly through Olsson, you know,
- [00:10:05.190]applying just directly on the website and
- [00:10:08.002]also being involved in career fairs, you know.
- [00:10:12.299]This virtual world has been a little bit different to where,
- [00:10:17.950]I guess the COVID world has been a little different
- [00:10:20.070]to where most things are virtual.
- [00:10:22.320]So maybe not the in-person career fairs
- [00:10:24.230]but even the virtual ones that, you know,
- [00:10:27.250]both the University of Nebraska
- [00:10:29.177]and different consulting firms have been involved in
- [00:10:33.230]to kind of link up students and potential employers.
- [00:10:38.720]So a lot of opportunities to kind of interact
- [00:10:40.641]with the professionals and to get employment
- [00:10:44.706]through those as well. So a lot of different opportunities.
- [00:10:50.150]And I guess another thing that I would add just as far as
- [00:10:53.530]you know, needing, students from the university,
- [00:10:58.685]and why we have found such success
- [00:11:01.980]through the University of Nebraska,
- [00:11:04.902]just a fun little statistic.
- [00:11:07.330]So on the team that I work on
- [00:11:09.491]there are seven professional engineers, on our team,
- [00:11:14.933]and six of those seven were, you know, hired permanently
- [00:11:21.661]full time through internships.
- [00:11:24.610]So I just kinda thought that that was fun
- [00:11:26.760]but really also drives home the importance
- [00:11:29.270]of having internships and, you know,
- [00:11:32.580]kind of building those relationships and connections,
- [00:11:36.132]but actually all six did go to
- [00:11:41.555]the University of Nebraska Lincoln
- [00:11:43.750]and got hired on as interns through their schooling
- [00:11:48.650]and were able to gain employment after through that as well.
- [00:11:54.522]So just have seen a lot of success and, you know,
- [00:11:59.290]we're local to Nebraska. Founded in Lincoln.
- [00:12:04.200]And so just have seen a lot of really great talent
- [00:12:08.010]and so continue to kind of see the success
- [00:12:12.350]and value in hiring those students.
- [00:12:16.513]That's awesome, Kara, thanks for sharing that.
- [00:12:18.150]That's a really high proportion, six out of seven
- [00:12:20.930]were UNL and had an internship
- [00:12:22.756]and now are there full-time working on that team.
- [00:12:25.230]That's incredible.
- [00:12:26.730]Yeah. The seventh was actually Lincoln graduate as well.
- [00:12:30.420]I think he just hadn't started directly
- [00:12:32.568]as an intern, so yeah, really high proportions there.
- [00:12:37.200]Absolutely. And for the benefit
- [00:12:39.300]of the students joining us today too,
- [00:12:41.445]don't interpret that as I have to intern
- [00:12:44.485]at an organization to work for them full time.
- [00:12:48.215]I think it just goes to show
- [00:12:49.890]that once you've got great experience under your belt
- [00:12:52.740]and if you have a good experience at an organization
- [00:12:55.190]and they also have a positive experience with you,
- [00:12:57.930]then they're very inclined to want to keep you on board,
- [00:13:00.680]but you don't have to, and you're not committed to that.
- [00:13:02.690]But internships are a great way to explore and again
- [00:13:05.240]can turn into a full-time opportunity sometimes.
- [00:13:08.720]So I've had this question a couple of times in the chat.
- [00:13:11.470]Thank you to those of you that are using the chat
- [00:13:13.140]and feel free, we will have a few minutes here
- [00:13:15.350]for some additional questions, but Ethan,
- [00:13:17.760]I'm going to go to you with this one.
- [00:13:20.270]How can students look for internships and other experiences?
- [00:13:24.390]What are their resources?
- [00:13:27.010]Some great resources to look
- [00:13:29.180]for internships is first our career services team.
- [00:13:31.511]You can find the career service team
- [00:13:33.300]in the engineering library.
- [00:13:34.920]Basically what they'll do is,
- [00:13:36.610]you walk into their office or schedule a meeting with them.
- [00:13:39.100]They'll show you different opportunities,
- [00:13:41.720]but you practice with them, look at your resume.
- [00:13:46.026]And yeah, they'll let you know what postings
- [00:13:49.420]that they know about, show you what resources
- [00:13:51.290]that you can go and look for to find
- [00:13:54.830]all of those internships.
- [00:13:55.980]One great thing that they do is they help to
- [00:13:57.620]plan our career fair that we have.
- [00:14:00.360]Two career fairs every year, one in the spring,
- [00:14:02.150]one in the fall, the one in the fall has around
- [00:14:05.850]250 employers that are there looking to hire engineers
- [00:14:08.930]for internships, full-time jobs, co-ops, anything like that.
- [00:14:13.029]And that's where I actually
- [00:14:14.680]had got my internship with Keiwit.
- [00:14:16.100]So it's a great opportunity.
- [00:14:21.706]Did that kind of answer your question? I hope so.
- [00:14:23.270]Absolutely. Yes.
- [00:14:24.690]And I dropped a link in the chat for those
- [00:14:26.660]of you that want to learn more and really your exposure
- [00:14:30.110]to learning about engineering career services
- [00:14:32.130]and those resources will start this fall when you join us.
- [00:14:36.730]And I don't know how many of you are joining us
- [00:14:39.680]on our Scott campus in Omaha, but in Omaha,
- [00:14:41.890]we also have someone who supports
- [00:14:44.160]engineering career services on that campus.
- [00:14:46.940]So whichever degree you're going into
- [00:14:49.270]in whichever campus you're going to,
- [00:14:51.240]you've got a career coach dedicated
- [00:14:53.220]to you through engineering,
- [00:14:54.680]and that person's going to help you prepare
- [00:14:56.920]a great application, be prepared for networking
- [00:14:59.770]events like career fairs,
- [00:15:02.080]know how to put your best foot forward in an interview.
- [00:15:04.630]We can help you with all of that,
- [00:15:06.060]all the way through helping you learn.
- [00:15:08.250]Is my offer for full-time employment fair?
- [00:15:11.520]How do I negotiate that?
- [00:15:13.180]How do I weigh when I've got multiple offers?
- [00:15:16.050]And I will say overseeing this team
- [00:15:18.210]for me is so wonderful because you all are highly employable
- [00:15:22.070]with your engineering degrees and very very
- [00:15:24.750]sought after, engineers are in high demand.
- [00:15:28.130]And so it's smart if you all to choose to be engineers
- [00:15:31.470]and pursue a career in this area, and yeah.
- [00:15:36.510]We're here to just support you
- [00:15:37.850]with building great connections
- [00:15:39.140]and putting your best foot forward
- [00:15:40.180]so you can land your dream job, hopefully.
- [00:15:44.012]All right.
- [00:15:45.060]I don't see any other questions in the chat
- [00:15:47.950]at the moment, but again, we have about four minutes.
- [00:15:53.741]I'm trying to think if there are other things
- [00:15:56.040]that you all might want to know about.
- [00:15:59.470]Kara, you've told me that you participated
- [00:16:03.130]in our career fairs this past year.
- [00:16:05.120]Do you want to talk about maybe a couple
- [00:16:06.780]of things that you all look for
- [00:16:08.457]when you're recruiting our students?
- [00:16:11.990]Yeah, so especially in the consulting world, you know,
- [00:16:15.877]there's a lot of engineers that
- [00:16:18.066]want to kind of just get in to the weeds
- [00:16:22.420]with all the technical aspects, which is great.
- [00:16:25.230]We need, you know, people that are highly skilled
- [00:16:29.150]and knowledgeable about the industry
- [00:16:31.220]from a technical standpoint,
- [00:16:32.670]but kind of another thing that's, you know,
- [00:16:35.440]maybe not as thought of within our industry is,
- [00:16:40.654]you know, also communications.
- [00:16:42.770]So as a consultant we have to go out and win work.
- [00:16:46.700]And so I'm looking for somebody, you know,
- [00:16:49.410]that can communicate with other people,
- [00:16:52.580]that like to talk to other people,
- [00:16:54.153]to build those connections
- [00:16:56.170]with the clients and be able to communicate.
- [00:16:59.350]'Cause, you know, sometimes you work
- [00:17:01.060]for people that, you know, you're hired because
- [00:17:04.070]you are the technical expert
- [00:17:05.420]but your client may not know.
- [00:17:07.010]So being able to kind of relay those messages of
- [00:17:11.680]kind of maybe what the key issues that the client is facing
- [00:17:15.410]and what the potential solution is
- [00:17:17.909]and being able to convey that message.
- [00:17:19.920]So, you know, being able to have a good technical base
- [00:17:23.911]is very important, but also being able to really
- [00:17:27.970]communicate, I think is really important as well.
- [00:17:31.329]And as Jen and I had kind of talked earlier this week
- [00:17:35.547]I was participating in the virtual career fairs
- [00:17:40.451]that had gone on both last fall and earlier this spring too.
- [00:17:44.250]And, you know, I did bring one example of a student
- [00:17:48.518]who was just very eager to learn more about opportunities
- [00:17:54.154]and kind of just make those connections.
- [00:17:56.840]And so that's something that's very important.
- [00:17:59.310]And this particular student had really
- [00:18:01.800]gone above and beyond.
- [00:18:03.040]And I know Jen was kind of elated to hear that, you know.
- [00:18:06.580]The things that this particular student had learned
- [00:18:10.129]through career services at the university
- [00:18:13.128]was really implementing those.
- [00:18:15.197]You know, following up and kind of making
- [00:18:18.690]that connection with the professional fields.
- [00:18:21.400]So, it was kind of nice to see everything come full circle
- [00:18:26.030]that, you know, the students are able to utilize
- [00:18:29.304]the professional experience or how to
- [00:18:33.440]kind of interact with professionals, you know,
- [00:18:36.960]that they're doing with career services and then actually
- [00:18:39.290]implement it once they get to the career fair
- [00:18:42.130]settings and are able to interact with the professionals.
- [00:18:47.610]Thanks so much. Okay.
- [00:18:49.520]I do have a couple of questions I do want to address.
- [00:18:51.780]I understand maybe a couple of you might hop
- [00:18:53.780]off for the break, but I know there's a break next.
- [00:18:57.210]So if you do hop off,
- [00:18:59.340]remember that there's a college session at 1:20
- [00:19:01.760]and then a student panel then to answer
- [00:19:03.630]some more of your questions.
- [00:19:04.570]But I do have a couple here
- [00:19:05.740]that we'll try to answer real quick.
- [00:19:07.620]So someone asked, freshmen year, they feel
- [00:19:10.840]like they're not very likely to get an internship.
- [00:19:14.390]And I would say that that's not actually true.
- [00:19:17.360]It's just having an openness to maybe landing a position,
- [00:19:23.629]an internship after that summer
- [00:19:26.548]of your freshman year, that maybe
- [00:19:29.220]isn't your number one dream job that freshman year.
- [00:19:32.600]But the earlier you can get an experience
- [00:19:35.358]with an internship, the more likely
- [00:19:37.810]you're going to be to land an internship
- [00:19:39.820]that you've been dreaming of
- [00:19:41.530]maybe the summer after your sophomore or junior year.
- [00:19:44.230]So there are opportunities for that.
- [00:19:48.120]And there are also other things you can do other
- [00:19:49.810]than internships in the meantime
- [00:19:51.310]like undergraduate research programs,
- [00:19:53.310]or maybe you choose to study abroad.
- [00:19:55.900]There's lots of other things that you could do.
- [00:19:58.340]So I took that one, but maybe one of you could speak quickly
- [00:20:01.850]to what, maybe Ethan, I'll have you take, you know,
- [00:20:05.850]what does life look like for an intern?
- [00:20:08.260]Like, where do you stay?
- [00:20:09.990]How do you get to the workplace?
- [00:20:14.600]So it's very different
- [00:20:16.070]for the two internships I've had.
- [00:20:17.490]Kiewit, they paid for me to drive down to Texas.
- [00:20:20.680]They paid for an apartment for me to stay in.
- [00:20:22.831]They actually even gave me a truck, which was awesome.
- [00:20:26.681]So there, they handled all of the costs
- [00:20:30.840]for all of that, which was just, I loved that.
- [00:20:33.043]That was awesome, I liked that.
- [00:20:35.370]But for Valmont, basically it's a paid position.
- [00:20:39.370]And part of what I get paid will go into the gas money
- [00:20:42.950]for me to drive up to the internship
- [00:20:45.120]every day and drive back at night.
- [00:20:47.960]So that's kinda how you get there and come back.
- [00:20:51.140]So if you want to live somewhere else
- [00:20:54.087]that's not necessarily here in Lincoln or near Lincoln,
- [00:20:57.452]that's what that looks like.
- [00:20:58.940]But if you want to stay local
- [00:21:00.680]that's what that looks like too.
- [00:21:02.210]Absolutely. And I do want to mention,
- [00:21:03.970]I would say engineering and construction are,
- [00:21:06.880]one of the great things about it is,
- [00:21:08.420]all of our internships are paid.
- [00:21:10.450]They're all paid and they typically
- [00:21:12.170]pay quite a bit over minimum wage.
- [00:21:14.840]So that is something that, again,
- [00:21:16.546]you'll have to look forward to.
- [00:21:19.130]I think that's all of our questions for today.
- [00:21:21.020]I really appreciate those of you
- [00:21:22.240]that chatted those in for us.
- [00:21:23.760]Thank you so much for taking the time to join us today.
- [00:21:26.400]Thank you again to Kara and Ethan for your advice and input.
- [00:21:29.680]And we're really looking forward
- [00:21:31.150]to seeing you all this fall.
- [00:21:34.250]Thank you again.
- [00:21:35.083]And we'll see you later
- [00:21:36.240]at the college session at 1:20 PM Central.
- [00:21:39.300]Thanks everyone.
