- [0:05] Simply put, I'm all in.
- [0:08] The University of Nebraska is a special place,
- [0:11] because of the spirit of collaboration
- [0:13] and community that exists here.
- [0:16] That only remains true, if we are intentional and diligent
- [0:21] in our efforts to recognize every person
- [0:23] and perspective in that community.
- [0:27] And seek to grow the diversity of our community.
- [0:31] I am committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- [0:35] It is vital to our mission and enhances
- [0:37] our educational experiences for our students
- [0:41] and the excellence that we do in teaching and learning.
- [0:44] When we say that every person
- [0:45] in every interaction matters,
- [0:47] I think that what we are saying is
- [0:49] that we truly value the contributions of each person
- [0:53] and that when we treat one another
- [0:54] in a way that demonstrates that value
- [0:57] we elevate both the individual and the whole.
- [1:01] Inclusive and inviting spaces create community.
- [1:03] And when we have community,
- [1:06] we have the option,
- [1:08] for creating real change.
- [1:10] Each of us is created as an equal.
- [1:13] Each of us however,
- [1:14] has had a unique journey.
- [1:17] That journey,
- [1:18] the uniqueness of that journey is what makes us
- [1:20] strong when we come together as a team.
- [1:24] Celebrating the differences between the different types
- [1:28] of people that work at the university,
- [1:31] will lead to a better working environment
- [1:34] and a better research teaching and extension environment.
- [1:38] Which can only lead to grand successes for the university
- [1:42] in the short term and the long run.
- [1:45] Diversity is a core element
- [1:47] of the rich and inviting culture,
- [1:49] that we invite and seek to foster on campus
- [1:51] across Nebraska and beyond.
- [1:54] An IANR that does not embody diversity is incomplete.
- [1:58] Less than excellent and not a leader.
- [2:01] It's essential to the success of one and all
- [2:03] at IANR and the people that we serve.
- [2:06] As a leader, I will use my role to center voices
- [2:11] of faculty, staff, and students of diverse identities
- [2:14] in developing diversity, inclusive and equitable practice.
- [2:19] Here within the Institute of Ag and Natural Resources and
- [2:23] across the University of Nebraska Lincoln and
- [2:26] the University of Nebraska.
- [2:29] I'm all in and talk is cheap.
- [2:31] So I want you to help hold me accountable as we go forward
- [2:36] and I will hold you accountable
- [2:38] as we make IANR and even more equitable and inclusive place.
- [2:45] (upbeat music)
