- [00:00:00.750]Hey, I'm Elisa from the Explore Center. The Explore Center is
- [00:00:04.350]the academic advising home for all undecided, pre-health, pre-law students,
- [00:00:08.940]and really any student working to meet requirements for other colleges or
- [00:00:12.510]majors.
- [00:00:13.680]We have 10 academic advisors and you'll be meeting with one of them soon to talk
- [00:00:17.370]about the transition to UNL and registering for courses.
- [00:00:21.150]We came up with some tips to help you prepare for your advising meeting.
- [00:00:24.420]Tip number one: come prepared with your NUID and your password.
- [00:00:28.650]This is what you've been using to log into MyRed.
- [00:00:30.840]And you'll also use this to enroll in courses either during or after our
- [00:00:34.230]meeting. Tip number two:
- [00:00:37.020]I encourage you to think about majors that you're interested in.
- [00:00:40.200]You can browse the Admissions website for a full list of options,
- [00:00:43.740]and then start to narrow down some ones that you're still thinking of.
- [00:00:47.520]It is helpful for us to know if you're interested in something
- [00:00:49.890]more science related or something more humanities related, that sort of thing.
- [00:00:54.300]Tip number three: Know, of course,
- [00:00:56.100]credit you're transferring in, whether or not you've submitted transcripts yet.
- [00:00:59.610]That's not a huge deal. It is helpful for us to know
- [00:01:02.550]and for you to know what classes that you've taken and where,
- [00:01:05.550]so we can discuss these in our meeting,
- [00:01:07.620]talk about how they count towards the degree, and be prepared
- [00:01:11.910]to tell us about any classes that you're currently taking as well.
- [00:01:15.930]Tip number four: We're going to talk about ACE courses in our meeting.
- [00:01:19.350]Here's a brief description of what they are:
- [00:01:21.510]ACE stands for achievement centered education,
- [00:01:23.970]so our fancy way of saying general education requirements.
- [00:01:27.900]We encourage you to think about what types of ACE classes intrigue you out of
- [00:01:31.800]the different categories that there are. If you've already completed
- [00:01:34.980]all of your ACE requirements,
- [00:01:36.240]come prepared with ideas of other courses or other subjects that interest you.
- [00:01:40.470]ACE course options can be found on the academic advising inventory,
- [00:01:44.190]which you've hopefully taken before our meeting. Tip number five:
- [00:01:48.260]Write down some questions to bring to our meeting.
- [00:01:50.990]Write down anything that you would like to know.
- [00:01:53.420]We're here to support in any way we can,
- [00:01:55.520]as you make the transition to being a student at UNL.
- [00:01:58.760]We're so excited to meet with you and learn more about your academic goals.
- [00:02:02.210]Hope you have a great day.
