- [00:00:05.990]Hello and welcome to this video on how to prepare
- [00:00:09.110]for your academic advising appointment
- [00:00:11.280]for the College of Business
- [00:00:12.680]at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:00:15.230]My name is Ashley Light.
- [00:00:16.750]I'm a program coordinator and academic advisor.
- [00:00:19.660]Let's get started.
- [00:00:22.400]As part of your academic advising appointment,
- [00:00:24.860]you will be meeting with one
- [00:00:25.940]of the business academic advisors
- [00:00:27.870]that you see on the screen here.
- [00:00:29.810]We are all part
- [00:00:30.830]of the Business Advising and Student Engagement Office,
- [00:00:34.380]commonly referred to our acronym as BASE.
- [00:00:38.740]All of the advisors are trained in all business majors,
- [00:00:42.080]so we can assist any and all business students.
- [00:00:46.640]So what should you expect as part of your meeting
- [00:00:49.260]with an academic advisor?
- [00:00:51.130]The big thing is we will be creating your schedule
- [00:00:53.770]for the upcoming semester.
- [00:00:55.810]To do this, we will be using
- [00:00:57.570]two different software programs,
- [00:00:59.700]Degree Planner, and Enrollment Scheduler.
- [00:01:03.050]In Degree Planner, we will use the software system
- [00:01:06.230]to build your semester by semester schedule
- [00:01:09.030]to make sure that you stay on track for graduation.
- [00:01:12.050]Once we have your courses planned,
- [00:01:14.330]we will then use Enrollment Scheduler
- [00:01:16.520]to actually enroll you in courses
- [00:01:18.560]through your MyRED account.
- [00:01:20.390]An academic advisor will be showing you
- [00:01:22.480]how to utilize both of these software programs,
- [00:01:25.420]so come to your appointment ready to learn.
- [00:01:30.700]An academic advisor will want to have you
- [00:01:32.690]prepare three things for your appointment.
- [00:01:35.890]First, please have a list of all college level credit
- [00:01:40.000]that you will be bringing with you to the university.
- [00:01:42.980]This includes AP exams, international baccalaureate exams,
- [00:01:48.100]club, transfer credit,
- [00:01:50.290]or dual enrollment courses from your high school.
- [00:01:54.390]Second, create a list of all the student organizations
- [00:01:57.980]or activities you plan to participate
- [00:02:00.630]in at your time at the university.
- [00:02:03.260]This could include things such as university band,
- [00:02:06.670]ROTC club, or university varsity sports
- [00:02:11.424]and student organizations on campus.
- [00:02:14.370]If any of those activities
- [00:02:15.930]have specific day and time requirements,
- [00:02:18.700]we want to make sure to plan your courses around them.
- [00:02:22.390]And last, please have a list of questions ready
- [00:02:25.510]to ask an academic advisor.
- [00:02:27.650]If we don't have the answers,
- [00:02:29.120]we can get you in touch with the people who do.
- [00:02:34.310]So, what should you remember?
- [00:02:37.300]If you have transcripts or test scores
- [00:02:40.490]from incoming college credit,
- [00:02:42.380]please send those transcripts and test scores
- [00:02:45.170]to the University Admissions Office.
- [00:02:47.860]Their email address is admissions@unl.edu.
- [00:02:52.820]And second, please remember to set an alarm
- [00:02:55.870]for your specific day and time
- [00:02:57.770]of your academic advising appointment.
- [00:03:00.370]Academic advisors prepare hard
- [00:03:02.270]for your individualized session,
- [00:03:04.650]and we want to give you the best experience possible.
- [00:03:07.600]That starts with you showing up on time and ready to go.
- [00:03:14.260]That's it.
- [00:03:15.330]On behalf of BASE and the College of Business,
- [00:03:18.350]we want to welcome you
- [00:03:19.410]to the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:03:21.910]Thanks for watching and go Big Red.
