[00:00:09.060]We have the third largest Ag economy in the United States,
[00:00:12.630]in large part because of our State's history in innovation.
[00:00:17.670]In 2020, UNL was recognized as one of the top 20
[00:00:21.490]agricultural research programs in the US,
[00:00:24.900]and 50th around the globe.
[00:00:27.550]We focus on innovating new ways to provide fuel, food,
[00:00:31.700]feed and fiber for a growing world,
[00:00:34.400]while conserving and sustaining our natural resources.
[00:00:38.380]In 2021, we'll continue to innovate.
[00:00:41.400]We will also reconnect with Nebraskans, with our students,
[00:00:45.600]and with our producers and partners
[00:00:48.270]from across Nebraska, the region and beyond.

[00:00:55.080]and Natural Resources is in the midst of an exciting time.

[00:01:00.380]the Changemaker Scholarship Competition,
[00:01:03.010]to recruit innovative students from around the world.
[00:01:06.200]Through the Changemaker program,
[00:01:07.850]students bring to life a big idea
[00:01:10.210]that addresses a worldwide problem.
[00:01:12.940]We announced the new
[00:01:13.850]LPS CASNR Early College and Career STEM Program.
[00:01:17.340]It offers Lincoln Northeast students
[00:01:19.390]the opportunity to earn early college credits
[00:01:22.120]and digital badges.
[00:01:23.610]We anticipate this program
[00:01:24.960]will be replicated across Nebraska,
[00:01:28.170]and we are transforming graduate education
[00:01:30.700]in the Institute of Ag and Natural Resources.
[00:01:34.560]Nebraska extension helped our State's producers,
[00:01:37.890]educators, families, and others
[00:01:41.200]successfully navigate the pandemic.
[00:01:43.550]Our local extension offices remained open for business.
[00:01:47.010]4-H Fairs engaged tens of thousands of youth,
[00:01:50.190]and we launched a new program, Rural Prosperity Nebraska.
[00:01:54.010]Our impacts were wide ranging in 2020.
[00:01:57.220]We worked with entrepreneurs
[00:01:58.610]to launch 60 Latino business startups.
[00:02:01.440]Nearly 15,000 childcare professionals utilized
[00:02:04.220]our online continuing education resources.
[00:02:07.550]Extension volunteers produced 28 tons of food,
[00:02:10.660]given to Nebraskans facing hunger.
[00:02:12.960]Our beef website drew more than 730,000 unique page views.
[00:02:17.520]The list goes on and on.
[00:02:19.310]We will continue to reach Nebraskans
[00:02:20.960]in person and online in 2021.
[00:02:23.490]IANR faculty in the Agricultural Research Division,
[00:02:27.930]demonstrated incredible resilience and innovation
[00:02:31.600]in their responses to COVID-19.
[00:02:34.460]Despite the timing of the onset of the pandemic,
[00:02:38.220]at the beginning of planning and calving seasons,
[00:02:41.150]our faculty leaders quickly developed lab
[00:02:44.330]and field operation plans that achieved
[00:02:47.300]our critical functions safely.
[00:02:50.400]2020 was a record year for IANR,
[00:02:53.460]and externally funded research expenditures
[00:02:56.160]and grant awards,
[00:02:57.640]and our faculty received many national awards in 2020,
[00:03:02.340]including the addition of two new fellows in the prestigious
[00:03:06.880]American Association for the Advancement of Science.
[00:03:11.320]I'm looking forward to 2021,
[00:03:13.940]to keep our momentum going, go big red.
