[00:00:02.340]is a regional research and outreach program
[00:00:04.670]established in 1976 at the University of Nebraska.
[00:00:09.060]It's mission is to foster the study of and appreciation for
[00:00:12.820]the people, cultures and natural environment
[00:00:15.500]of the Great Plains.
[00:00:17.740]You may know us best from the Great Plains art museum
[00:00:20.240]which takes up two levels of our building,
[00:00:22.980]currently the museum has two exhibitions on display,
[00:00:26.470]on the main level there's the great migration,
[00:00:28.900]a celebration of sandhill cranes in Nebraska.
[00:00:32.210]This exhibition celebrates this annual wildlife spectacle
[00:00:36.000]and the unique lives of these elegant birds.
[00:00:39.360]The artist, Jude Martindale interprets her experiences
[00:00:42.500]with the cranes,
[00:00:43.560]in ways that reveal not only their personalities
[00:00:46.510]but also her emotional reactions
[00:00:48.520]to watching their behaviors.
[00:00:51.460]On the lower level Avian Observations
[00:00:53.830]highlights artistic representations
[00:00:56.130]of the varied species of birds on the Great Plains,
[00:00:59.640]featuring artwork from the museum's permanent collection
[00:01:02.860]and from Elizabeth Rubendall artists
[00:01:05.010]and residents Kiersten Furlong.
[00:01:07.270]This exhibition allows us to explore the history,
[00:01:10.520]physical characteristics, behaviors,
[00:01:12.950]habitats and conservation
[00:01:15.100]of the diverse creatures that are so important
[00:01:17.560]to the Great Plains region.
