[00:00:09.960]the Associate Dean for Student Success in the College of Education and Human
[00:00:13.260]Sciences. Today, we're going to be meeting with Mollie Rappl,
[00:00:16.950]the college Career Coach in CEHS.
[00:00:19.560]And we're going to be talking about ways students can prepare for the virtual
[00:00:23.850]job fair. That will be occurring on February 23rd to the 26th.
[00:00:28.560]So hi Mollie, how are you?
[00:00:30.410]Hi, Dr. Springer. I'm doing really good. Thanks for having me here today.
[00:00:35.000]So, can you tell us a little bit more about the job fair and what students can
[00:00:38.600]expect?
[00:00:40.280]Sure. This year we're doing our Career Fair, all virtually all online.
[00:00:44.960]So students have the opportunity to attend like you said,
[00:00:48.740]from February 23rd until February 26th,
[00:00:52.820]there's four days,
[00:00:53.990]they can hop onto their handshake account and get registered ahead of time.
[00:00:57.290]They can meet with employers, they can ask questions,
[00:01:00.860]they get the opportunity to network and really put themselves out there.
[00:01:05.060]If they're looking for part-time jobs, full-time jobs,
[00:01:08.750]if they're interested in internships or just learning more about employers who
[00:01:12.980]are hiring UNL students.
[00:01:14.660]So how can students register for this event?
[00:01:18.140]Sure. So students will just need to register ahead of time and they do that
[00:01:23.030]starting February 8th, by hopping onto their handshake account,
[00:01:27.260]using their UNL email,
[00:01:29.270]they go into events and then they can register for any of the four days.
[00:01:33.380]As many times as they want to,
[00:01:34.610]they can come to as many sessions as they want to. There's four different days.
[00:01:38.840]There's also an Education Career Fair happening within those four days,
[00:01:43.220]but they just register using their handshake account and getting signed up for
[00:01:47.330]the individual session.
[00:01:49.190]Well, Awesome. That is great. So in closing,
[00:01:51.800]kind of what are some things students should do to prepare for the virtual job
[00:01:55.610]fair?
[00:01:56.443]Yeah, I think one thing that CEHS has is two awesome career coaches.
[00:02:01.460]So myself and my career coach partner Darwin Archie,
[00:02:04.730]we're available to meet with the students.
[00:02:06.740]They can schedule a time with us through MyPLAN.
[00:02:09.530]That way we can talk to them about preparing for the career fair,
[00:02:13.280]how to set themselves apart, how to do research before the career fair,
[00:02:17.900]and basically just how to be successful in this virtual world and doing a career
[00:02:22.580]fair virtually.
[00:02:23.720]We also have lots of resources on our web page,
[00:02:27.980]on the Career Services website and different ways to help them so that they can
[00:02:32.180]prepare ahead of time and know that everything will go smoothly when they do
[00:02:37.010]meet with the employers for the Career Fair.
[00:02:39.860]So really one more question.
[00:02:42.230]What are one or two tips and tricks you think that might be beneficial for
[00:02:45.920]students as they're thinking about this?
[00:02:48.440]Yeah,
[00:02:48.860]I think doing the pre-planning is going to be really important
[00:02:54.320]researching ahead of time knowing the employers they want to meet with.
[00:02:58.430]And we have all those employers listed on our website so that they can see ahead
[00:03:02.050]of time and they can pick and choose.
[00:03:03.610]But making sure their technology is set up, making sure their laptop is charged,
[00:03:08.260]making sure they're attending in a distraction-free environment,
[00:03:12.370]maybe with a neutral background, and really good lighting, and just coming
[00:03:16.630]prepared, and ready to talk, and really market themselves and learn
[00:03:21.370]about all these awesome opportunities that are available to them.
