- [00:00:02.190]This is the degree planner.
- [00:00:03.990]You will use this planning tool to select your courses for future terms.
- [00:00:08.430]You and your advisor will go over your plan during your advising meetings.
- [00:00:14.280]The degree planner is broken out into different sections here.
- [00:00:18.750]The terms that you selected in the previous video are all displayed here.
- [00:00:24.780]You can see what you took in Fall of 2020, or previous semesters.
- [00:00:30.240]And what you will still need to do in the future is going to be blank until you
- [00:00:35.100]plan. You can open and close these terms by selecting them.
- [00:00:43.130]Here on the left-hand side, you can check out the requirements.
- [00:00:47.570]It will show your ACE courses as well as exploratory courses,
- [00:00:53.630]as well as electives, as an Undeclared student,
- [00:00:57.380]you have 'Explore majors' here. If you are a Pre-Health student,
- [00:01:01.310]you will have Pre-Health science listed here.
- [00:01:08.780]We are going to begin planning for the spring 2021 semester.
- [00:01:13.550]A requirement for all Explore Center students is to have a plan of courses
- [00:01:18.350]picked out for your next term.
- [00:01:24.050]So to begin planning for the spring, we are going to select spring 2021.
- [00:01:30.440]We will then use the tabs over here showing you what ACEs
- [00:01:34.970]you still need to enroll in,
- [00:01:38.630]as well as some of these major exploration courses.
- [00:01:43.220]There are a couple of different ways to add courses.
- [00:01:46.310]You can select a requirement that you still need and drag it over and add it
- [00:01:51.830]this way. You also have the option of over here on the right side,
- [00:01:55.820]clicking this plus button and adding a course.
- [00:01:58.820]That way you can choose to add a requirement or add a course.
- [00:02:02.510]Let's add a requirement for right now.
- [00:02:05.180]You then have the option to choose an ACE course or a Major Exploration or
- [00:02:09.110]Elective course. Let's choose another ACE course.
- [00:02:13.580]It will list all of the ACE courses here,
- [00:02:16.040]but you will want to verify over here on the side that you do not choose an ACE
- [00:02:21.110]that you already have credit for. I can see I do not have an ACE 7 yet.
- [00:02:25.520]So I'm going to add an ACE 7 and it will auto-populate there,
- [00:02:32.630]but I'm going to continue to drag the courses and I bring over a Major
- [00:02:37.040]Exploration course.
- [00:02:51.620]Now we can get in and select the specific courses courses we want to take.
- [00:02:56.570]There are a couple of different ways you can do this. You can click add course,
- [00:03:01.720]and it will show you every ACE 2 that is offered.
- [00:03:05.200]One thing to note is that it will show you all ACE 2's, but not
- [00:03:10.000]all ACE 2's may be offered in the upcoming term.
- [00:03:13.990]That is just something to be aware of. So I want to take COMM 101.
- [00:03:18.820]So I'm going to click on the course and I am going to add it
- [00:03:24.900]for exploring the major. I can click add course,
- [00:03:29.280]or I can click the down arrow and click add course again and here we are going
- [00:03:37.290]to select a subject. I want to explore business and economics.
- [00:03:41.670]So I'm going to look for economics.
- [00:03:45.600]Then I want to take a 200 level course.
- [00:03:48.180]You can then type in the number of the course if you know it,
- [00:03:52.080]otherwise you can just search.
- [00:03:54.570]It will show you all 200 level economics courses.
- [00:03:58.770]I want to take macroeconomics.
- [00:04:01.230]You are then going to click on this 'I' to view course details,
- [00:04:04.620]to read a description of the course,
- [00:04:07.530]as well as check out how many credit hours the course is and verify that you
- [00:04:12.330]have the prerequisite met.
- [00:04:14.880]So I can see that it is 12 credit hours.
- [00:04:17.970]And I know by looking at my plan that in the fall I took 14 hours.
- [00:04:23.100]Therefore I am eligible for this class.
- [00:04:26.310]You can then click back and then you will need to click on the course and it
- [00:04:29.940]will add it. Same thing.
- [00:04:33.950]Let's add another exploratory course.
- [00:04:37.110]I want to take something in advertising and public relations,
- [00:04:42.480]100 level. And I happen to know that the course number is 151.
- [00:04:46.890]So I can type that in. And again,
- [00:04:49.260]I can see the course here and I will select it.
- [00:04:52.740]And then it adds. Looking ahead to my ACE 7's,
- [00:04:57.870]I'm going to click add course,
- [00:04:59.760]and I'm going to scroll down and choose something that I like.
- [00:05:05.820]And now I have a full term planned.
- [00:05:10.140]You will then share this plan with your advisor in an advising meeting.
- [00:05:15.810]As you are creating this plan, if you have questions or comments,
- [00:05:19.110]you can add it and save it for your meeting with your advisor.
- [00:05:23.010]You can do that by clicking on this plus sign on the right hand side here and
- [00:05:26.850]clicking 'Add comment', you then type your question or your thought,
- [00:05:31.680]and you hit submit.
- [00:05:36.390]You click the toggle box here to make that go away.
- [00:05:42.900]You can then see over here on the requirements
- [00:05:46.230]tab that with ACE 2 planned as well as ACE 7,
- [00:05:50.460]they have turned purple. So green means it's completed.
- [00:05:54.510]Purple means you are planning for it. Another color not listed
- [00:05:58.820]that's shown here is blue. Blue is a course
- [00:06:01.610]that you are currently enrolled in that you have not taken yet.
- [00:06:11.320]As an Explore Center student, you will need to plan out four terms.
- [00:06:16.000]We already have one term done and completed.
- [00:06:19.000]We have the current term that we are in and now we want to plan out courses for
- [00:06:24.670]the next term, and then the term after that. As an undecided student,
- [00:06:29.920]it can be hard to identify courses that you want to take.
- [00:06:34.720]And that is okay,
- [00:06:37.510]what we need to save for the next upcoming semester are specific classes you want
- [00:06:42.340]to take.
- [00:06:42.910]And then you can discuss them with your academic advisor for the following
- [00:06:47.350]semester.
- [00:06:48.490]We are just asking that you put in some generic requirements.
- [00:06:53.710]So let's look to this upcoming semester.
- [00:06:59.170]I can look here and see that I still need an ACE 4,
- [00:07:03.010]I'm going to plan for that. I still need an ACE 9,
- [00:07:08.560]and I'm going to take some major exploration courses,
- [00:07:20.830]and same thing. We can click Add Course.
- [00:07:22.900]That's going to show us all of our ACE 9's here.
- [00:07:27.400]Let's choose History of Mexico.
- [00:07:33.340]We're going to explore another course.
- [00:07:35.440]Let's say you took that economics course and you really enjoyed it.
- [00:07:38.740]So you want to continue to take it.
- [00:07:42.550]You can search again and choose the next one.
- [00:07:46.660]You can then choose your ACE for your science requirement.
- [00:07:50.950]One thing to note here is that a lot of times the labs are not going to be
- [00:07:55.210]listed under this ACE 4 category. For example,
- [00:08:00.280]Chemistry 109A, the lecture. Let's go ahead and add that course.
- [00:08:05.620]But in order to enroll into that course, we need to have the lab.
- [00:08:09.250]You will then need to go into the Explore Major elective, click Add Course,
- [00:08:14.680]and then you can search it this way,
- [00:08:17.860]Chemistry 100 level search,
- [00:08:21.340]and then you can find Chemistry 109L.
- [00:08:25.060]And the way you can know that is by clicking on the 'I' to read the requirement.
- [00:08:30.370]Their prerequisite is that you are enrolled in Chemistry 109A at the
- [00:08:35.110]same time. So we are going to add this course here.
- [00:08:40.720]I am currently at 10 credit hours for this upcoming semester,
- [00:08:45.640]and I can still see, I need an ACE 8.
- [00:08:48.880]Let me go ahead and add an ACE 8 over here.
- [00:08:52.330]And then I'm going to click Add Course,
- [00:08:54.220]and I am interested in taking Sparta.
- [00:09:00.990]Again, you can click Add Comment
- [00:09:03.750]if you would like to discuss that with your advisor.
- [00:09:08.940]Then looking ahead to the spring semester of the next year,
- [00:09:14.640]we just want general categories
- [00:09:17.430]if you do not know of a specific class to take.
- [00:09:21.300]So you can see here that your ACEs are already completed. You,
- [00:09:25.080]you don't necessarily need any more.
- [00:09:28.110]So then you can look at moving some of these more,
- [00:09:31.470]more of these exploration courses over here.
- [00:09:39.530]The degree planner will limit the amount of courses that you are able to
- [00:09:43.680]bring over
- [00:09:54.740]So you can choose to leave the general category here.
- [00:09:58.670]Otherwise you can choose a specific course by doing the same search function.
- [00:10:06.950]After you have created your four term plan,
- [00:10:10.070]you will then want to schedule an advising meeting with your academic advisor to
- [00:10:14.390]preview the plan.
- [00:10:20.270]Before doing that,
- [00:10:21.380]let's check out some of the other functions of the degree planner.
- [00:10:26.960]If you click on these four dash lines here,
- [00:10:30.680]you can see the icon legend. It'll break out and kind of explain what these
- [00:10:35.360]different requirements are.
- [00:10:43.580]You can clear your plan. You can delete your plan.
- [00:10:47.060]You can reset it as well.
- [00:10:51.290]This again is to make a comment.
- [00:10:56.540]This tab here is to share with your advisor.
- [00:10:59.810]What you will do in this case is you can click share with your advisor.
- [00:11:04.730]You will then receive an email,
- [00:11:07.020]advising you to schedule a plan with your advisor.
- [00:11:10.130]You are not able to submit this directly to your advisor.
- [00:11:16.610]Another option is Upload for Enrollment,
- [00:11:18.830]which we will get to in a moment here.
- [00:11:21.770]You can save your plan and check your work,
- [00:11:26.750]and then it will show you, have you met the maximum and
- [00:11:31.730]minimum credit hours.
- [00:11:34.340]Are you okay with the credit hour requirement?
- [00:11:37.490]And then it will make some suggestions for requirement planning,
- [00:11:42.230]and then it will, explain why if you have anything other than,
- [00:11:46.910]okay, listed here, be sure to bring this up with your academic advisor,
- [00:11:55.060]You can then toggle and work on different plans.
- [00:11:59.320]So we can
- [00:11:59.920]save the same plan that we already have listed here. If you want to run a
- [00:12:03.820]What If plan or try another plan,
- [00:12:06.610]you can create a new one doing the same thing that we discussed in the first
- [00:12:10.210]video. Let's go back to Herbie
- [00:12:12.650]Husker.
- [00:12:16.770]In the next video, we will discuss how you can upload, your
- [00:12:21.620]degree plan into the Enrollment Scheduler.
The screen size you are trying to search captions on is too small!
