- [00:00:00.400]All right, welcome back.
- [00:00:01.233]We're at the half.
- [00:00:02.066]The Huskers and Ohio State here on a Saturday afternoon
- [00:00:05.200]and we're very happy to welcome in Chancellor Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:08.140]And it's our first chance to talk women's basketball
- [00:00:10.980]this year with Chancellor Green.
- [00:00:13.060]What do you think of the season so far?
- [00:00:16.370]Well, Matt, it's good to see us playing, number one,
- [00:00:19.490]and to have this season now well underway for our women
- [00:00:23.140]and grateful for every chance that our student athletes have
- [00:00:27.180]to be able to compete in these times that we're in
- [00:00:29.980]and great to see those games that have happened
- [00:00:32.010]and for our fans to be able to continue to cheer them on.
- [00:00:35.610]Our team has really stepped up
- [00:00:37.040]and competed well in a really tough part of the schedule
- [00:00:41.120]that they've been playing in.
- [00:00:42.730]Three of our last four opponents,
- [00:00:44.740]as you well know, have been ranked.
- [00:00:47.047]And in that stretch to be three and one
- [00:00:49.270]with the one loss on the road
- [00:00:50.690]to 15th ranked Michigan by just two points,
- [00:00:53.306]I chalk that up to be exciting
- [00:00:56.550]and really great for our team
- [00:00:58.160]and great individual performances on the court as well.
- [00:01:01.560]Congrats to Sam Haiby, Big 10 Player of the Week
- [00:01:05.020]about a week ago.
- [00:01:06.630]Exciting for her and that big game with Northwestern.
- [00:01:09.610]And so I really, really tickled to see the women
- [00:01:13.410]excelling on the court and having a good season underway.
- [00:01:17.340]Well not only are they excelled, but you have excelled.
- [00:01:20.010]You successfully managed a fall semester on campus.
- [00:01:23.190]Now spring classes are starting a little later than usual.
- [00:01:26.590]January 25th and no spring break.
- [00:01:29.670]What else is new for the spring?
- [00:01:32.550]Well, again Matt, we are starting a little bit later
- [00:01:35.970]to kind of cater our academic schedule,
- [00:01:38.850]hopefully to be a little bit safer around COVID.
- [00:01:42.830]So we're starting on the 25th.
- [00:01:45.140]So a little over a week out
- [00:01:47.670]from where we're at here today.
- [00:01:50.310]We had a really successful fall.
- [00:01:53.140]Worked really hard to make that successful,
- [00:01:55.570]to have our student body and our faculty and staff
- [00:01:59.460]together on campus as much as possible through the fall.
- [00:02:02.910]And we just couldn't have been more pleased
- [00:02:04.960]with the way that it turned out for us.
- [00:02:08.970]We know that this is still a lot of unpredictability
- [00:02:13.250]in the air as we go through the winter
- [00:02:16.290]and the spring ahead related to COVID-19,
- [00:02:19.250]but we have put in additional measures
- [00:02:22.230]to be able to look forward to a successful spring,
- [00:02:26.590]even more of our classes.
- [00:02:29.130]We were one of the leaders nationally in the fall
- [00:02:31.630]with the percentage of our classes
- [00:02:33.330]that had an in person component on campus.
- [00:02:36.870]And we are increasing that with the spring,
- [00:02:40.770]with all of our classes
- [00:02:42.360]that have 75 or fewer students in them,
- [00:02:44.860]almost all of them being fully in person
- [00:02:48.500]for the spring term.
- [00:02:49.830]And we're very excited about that
- [00:02:52.470]as I know our students are.
- [00:02:54.750]We've worked, as we have done through the most of last year,
- [00:02:59.820]with the Lincoln and Lancaster County Health Department
- [00:03:02.600]in close partnership with them
- [00:03:04.860]around risk mitigation for our community,
- [00:03:07.410]and very pleased that we have an expanded testing capacity
- [00:03:12.570]for COVID-19 going into the spring term
- [00:03:16.610]and through the spring term on campus.
- [00:03:19.440]New diagnostic testing laboratory on the campus
- [00:03:23.180]that we're operating, that we stood up,
- [00:03:25.620]with saliva testing much faster and rapid
- [00:03:28.720]and less invasive testing that is now available
- [00:03:32.540]to the campus community.
- [00:03:35.750]And before our classes start
- [00:03:38.140]all of our community is being tested,
- [00:03:41.720]so we have that kind of baseline risk mitigation in place
- [00:03:46.360]and linked to a safer community app on our phones
- [00:03:50.350]to be able to have that information current
- [00:03:53.520]and be able to access our facilities using that app.
- [00:03:57.610]So we're just really excited and eager for our students
- [00:04:02.450]to be back after a longer holiday break.
- [00:04:05.220]They've been gone since Thanksgiving essentially
- [00:04:08.140]from campus when we finished the fall term.
- [00:04:11.420]Excited to be welcoming them back here
- [00:04:13.650]over the course of the next week
- [00:04:15.690]to gear up for our classes to start on the 25th.
- [00:04:20.220]And I gotta tell you also just in kind of wrapping up here
- [00:04:25.500]that we're very pleased that our enrollment has held solid.
- [00:04:29.740]It did through the fall.
- [00:04:31.650]We're one of the few institutions around the country
- [00:04:34.540]that didn't see significant decline in enrollment,
- [00:04:38.770]and that's holding true for our spring enrollment
- [00:04:41.360]coming forward too.
- [00:04:42.440]So I'm excited to have our students back
- [00:04:44.510]and our programs to get started here on the 25th.
- [00:04:48.788]Just great stuff, very excited too.
- [00:04:50.670]Chancellor Green, it's been too long.
- [00:04:52.130]It's been good talking to you today.
- [00:04:54.160]Good to talk to you and as always
- [00:04:56.430]looking forward to a great second half of our game
- [00:04:58.710]and go Big Red.
- [00:04:59.860]Go Big Red.
- [00:05:00.693]That's Chancellor Ronnie Green.
- [00:05:01.740]I'm Matt Coatney.
- [00:05:02.900]It is halftime, Nebraska and Ohio State.
- [00:05:05.200]More halftime activities in a few moments.
