- [00:00:00.287](upbeat music)
- [00:00:02.510]Greg Sharpe back on our Huskers Sports Network Studio,
- [00:00:04.600]it is halftime of the Huskers match up,
- [00:00:06.240]with the Wisconsin Badgers
- [00:00:07.470]the league opening game of the year,
- [00:00:09.540]and a real thrill for us to be joined
- [00:00:10.950]by the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska,
- [00:00:12.860]Ronnie Green here on the opening game of Conference Play,
- [00:00:16.460]and wow, here we go, we just got...
- [00:00:18.840]we didn't get to play a football game with Wisconsin,
- [00:00:20.930]but here we are opening conference playing basketball.
- [00:00:23.230]Pretty cool.
- [00:00:24.590]Well it is, its good to be in Madison,
- [00:00:27.490]and to have the opportunity to open big 10 play for our men.
- [00:00:31.610]They've got back-to-back big games on the road here.
- [00:00:35.700]It's really awesome for our fans
- [00:00:37.210]to be able to see these big games.
- [00:00:39.710]Even though we're kind of in this restricted,
- [00:00:42.700]no fans in the arena kind of a situation.
- [00:00:46.700]I know our fans remember really well,
- [00:00:48.850]but no some near a few years ago
- [00:00:50.780]in Lincoln against the Badgers always a big game for us,
- [00:00:54.571]and even bigger this year as you mentioned Greg
- [00:00:57.700]because now we get to play them in a sport here
- [00:01:00.830]after I'm not getting to do that on Halloween.
- [00:01:04.730]We remember so well, so great to be in Madison
- [00:01:07.720]and looking forward to a great second half of all.
- [00:01:11.090]Well, you're coming off of a high
- [00:01:12.580]'cause you had a big weekend.
- [00:01:13.590]The December graduation was aired Saturday morning
- [00:01:16.480]and an online version of that.
- [00:01:17.880]And you welcomed onto that
- [00:01:20.410]maybe the most well-known Husker of all time
- [00:01:22.630]and that's Warren Buffett.
- [00:01:23.660]What did he have to save in case of folks missed it?
- [00:01:27.240]Well, you know, it was just such a pleasure
- [00:01:29.570]to have Warren with us
- [00:01:30.810]to help our graduates celebrate online.
- [00:01:33.830]We ended up having a video conversation
- [00:01:36.890]with Warren that I taped with him about three weeks ago.
- [00:01:42.570]And we spent about 15 minutes
- [00:01:44.170]talking about his affinity for Nebraska,
- [00:01:47.400]what he learned at Nebraska.
- [00:01:48.890]He talked about some of his professors
- [00:01:51.200]that had a major impact on him
- [00:01:53.800]when he was a student at UNL in the 1940s, late forties
- [00:01:58.020]and graduated in 1951, talked about his parents.
- [00:02:02.550]At one point he actually said,
- [00:02:04.400]you know oh my very existence
- [00:02:06.270]to the University of Nebraska because my parents met at UNL,
- [00:02:11.740]talked about his career,
- [00:02:14.130]over time we know as the greatest investor
- [00:02:16.490]probably of all time and build in Berkshire Hathaway
- [00:02:19.960]and continue in its success for such a long period of time.
- [00:02:24.180]He talked about what he would do if he was a graduate today.
- [00:02:28.400]And he talked about that he couldn't...
- [00:02:30.610]Think of a quote I'll remember for a long time
- [00:02:33.120]him saying that he could not think of a better thing
- [00:02:36.280]to be in 2020 than a graduate of UNL,
- [00:02:39.563]a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:02:42.880]So just a conversation, you know,
- [00:02:47.190]I personally will treasure for a long time to come,
- [00:02:49.970]just because, you know having Warren Buffett
- [00:02:51.820]at 90 years of age offer his sage wisdom
- [00:02:55.880]and that way to our graduates was something
- [00:02:59.050]that they will treasure at the university.
- [00:03:01.470]And I know those graduates and their families
- [00:03:04.890]will treasure him being a part
- [00:03:06.460]of this special year they've been in and special times
- [00:03:09.600]that they're graduating in December, 2020.
- [00:03:11.670]So congratulations to 1400 new alumni
- [00:03:15.750]who joined our alumni on Saturday
- [00:03:18.650]and now over 300,000 alumni of the university
- [00:03:22.130]around the world.
- [00:03:23.635]That is fantastic.
- [00:03:25.200]Chancellor, if people missed the Warren Buffett talk
- [00:03:28.200]can they still find it online somewhere?
- [00:03:30.920]They can, they can go to unl.edu
- [00:03:33.920]and they'll find the opportunity link there
- [00:03:36.760]to be able to see that I, you know,
- [00:03:38.885]it's something special to be able
- [00:03:41.030]to get Warren on record on tape, right?
- [00:03:45.900]This'll go on to live for a long time
- [00:03:48.780]into the future for us to be able to tap into.
- [00:03:51.470]So hope folks will go take a look at it.
- [00:03:53.460]Absolutely, Chancellor thank you so much
- [00:03:54.890]for being with us.
- [00:03:55.723]Enjoy the second half.
- [00:03:57.810]Go Big Red.
- [00:03:59.020]Ronnie Green with us here at halftime.
- [00:04:00.630]We've got more coming up next.
