- [00:00:00.125](soft upbeat music)
- [00:00:04.440]The Nebraska College of Law is committed
- [00:00:06.530]to developing diverse, inclusive leaders
- [00:00:08.860]who will go out across Nebraska and make a difference.
- [00:00:12.430]The Rural Law Opportunities Program
- [00:00:14.790]and the Underserved Law Opportunities Program
- [00:00:17.550]are dedicated to preparing students
- [00:00:19.770]who will serve their communities with courage and integrity.
- [00:00:23.161]I love the idea of producing lawyers
- [00:00:26.472]that go advanced justice in underserved areas.
- [00:00:30.740]And what this is doing
- [00:00:31.890]is helping us build that pipeline of students
- [00:00:33.912]who are interested in that
- [00:00:35.270]from the very beginning.
- [00:00:36.680]And then they come here and get a great legal education
- [00:00:40.359]and then, hopefully, will go back out into Nebraska
- [00:00:43.205]to represent people who need it the most.
- [00:00:45.505](soft upbeat music)
- [00:00:46.338]Right there,
- [00:00:47.171]I see.
- [00:00:48.270]University of Nebraska Kearney student,
- [00:00:50.450]Max Beal, plans to attend Nebraska Law after graduation.
- [00:00:54.450]Through the Rural Law Opportunities Program,
- [00:00:56.820]he visits the Law College Campus for guest lectures,
- [00:00:59.940]special court proceedings, and other activities.
- [00:01:03.390]We usually sit through a couple of classes,
- [00:01:04.900]which it's really interesting to actually see
- [00:01:07.470]what they're learning in law school,
- [00:01:08.850]because it takes, for me at least,
- [00:01:10.830]it makes law less intimidating
- [00:01:12.340]and kind of, you know,
- [00:01:13.173]make sure you aware of what's to come.
- [00:01:14.980]Qualifying students from UNK,
- [00:01:16.960]Chadron State College and Wayne State College
- [00:01:19.490]receive tuition scholarships
- [00:01:21.500]and guaranteed admission to Nebraska Law.
- [00:01:24.250]The program will help Beal realize his dream
- [00:01:26.700]to, someday, practice law in rural Nebraska.
- [00:01:29.360]The heart Nebraska really isn't just East.
- [00:01:31.530]It's not just in Lincoln and Omaha.
- [00:01:33.470]It's in small communities around the state,
- [00:01:35.430]like the town of Kennesaw, where I'm from.
- [00:01:37.710]And so in,
- [00:01:38.543]in getting these students to go to law school
- [00:01:40.508]and one day come back and serve their communities,
- [00:01:42.902]we're gonna promote a thriving small town Nebraska.
- [00:01:45.950]And I think that's really important.
- [00:01:47.343](soft upbeat music)
- [00:01:50.160]The underserved law opportunities program
- [00:01:52.920]helped Emma Franklin forge connections with the law college
- [00:01:55.960]when she was an undergraduate
- [00:01:57.803]at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
- [00:02:00.292]I think that direct connection between my undergrad at UNO
- [00:02:04.900]and Nebraska Law was really valuable.
- [00:02:07.531]Franklin says the program
- [00:02:08.972]also enriches the law college experience
- [00:02:12.140]for all students.
- [00:02:13.421]I think it's better to have diversity of ideas.
- [00:02:16.178]And I think that's only going to happen
- [00:02:18.880]if you have diversity of culture, diversity of education,
- [00:02:22.380]diversity of backgrounds, so rural, as well as city people,
- [00:02:27.150]all those ideas together will form new connections
- [00:02:30.440]and it will allow people to learn from each other.
- [00:02:33.130]Nebraska law,
- [00:02:34.240]committed to boosting diversity
- [00:02:36.100]and access to legal representation
- [00:02:38.430]across the state.
- [00:02:39.592](upbeat music)
