[00:00:03.980]I'm a PhD student at the Department of Entomology.
[00:00:07.320]And today I'm here to thank you all CASNR community.
[00:00:11.090]It was a very hard of all semester and year
[00:00:14.060]and the COVID pandemic impacted us in several ways.
[00:00:18.260]But despite all the challenges,
[00:00:20.250]I want to thank the CASNR staff/faculty
[00:00:23.140]and students for the continuous support
[00:00:25.600]and dedication this year.
[00:00:27.570]when I look back to the beginning of the pandemic,
[00:00:30.350]I am proud of how we handled the situation,
[00:00:33.440]with the mentality that we can go through this together
[00:00:37.340]and we will become better people after this.
[00:00:40.490]As a student,
[00:00:41.760]I affirm that I had all the support
[00:00:44.120]from faculty/staff and other students to continue my program
[00:00:47.765]and projects at UNL.

[00:01:13.300]I'm Jake Judge, a current CASNR student.
[00:01:16.420]I'm a senior studying Mechanized Systems Management
[00:01:19.280]with a Minor in Agribusiness.
[00:01:22.480]One quote that I've been reflecting on a lot lately is,
[00:01:25.167]"The same hot water that boils the egg, softens the potato."
[00:01:30.240]It's not about the situation you're in,
[00:01:32.190]rather what you're made of.
[00:01:34.830]As there are as many unknowns
[00:01:36.010]as we came to school this fall,
[00:01:38.330]students didn't know what this semester was gonna look like.
[00:01:40.810]Whether it was gonna be all online,
[00:01:43.280]all in person or a hybrid.
[00:01:46.710]There was one thing that all students knew.
[00:01:49.780]They knew that the faculty/staff and administration
[00:01:52.290]of CASNR was going to provide an amazing experience
[00:01:54.760]for them.
[00:01:56.170]With that they entered every single class knowing
[00:01:58.710]that the teachers and other students in the room
[00:02:01.900]we're going through a lot of change as well.
[00:02:04.880]I saw one example of this when the executive team
[00:02:07.940]of the Mechanized Systems Management Club was meeting.
[00:02:11.975]As we were meeting we had to decide what we were gonna do
[00:02:13.350]for our meetings for this entire semester.
[00:02:15.720]Whether that was gonna be on Zoom, try to meet in person,
[00:02:18.350]what we were going to do.
[00:02:20.080]There began to be a lot of negativity in the room
[00:02:22.050]as to what we were going to do.
[00:02:24.380]Once Saytach Pillar heard that, our advisor,
[00:02:28.320]he said, "We need to focus on what we can do
[00:02:31.080]rather than what we can't do."
[00:02:33.200]And with that our executive team began brainstorming
[00:02:35.540]more excitedly.
[00:02:36.790]We then decided that we were going to have it
[00:02:38.560]all on Zoom and bring in industry professionals to talk
[00:02:41.410]on their experience in the workforce.
[00:02:44.180]We brought in Belmont Industries to talk on
[00:02:46.390]the Central Private Irrigation Sector
[00:02:47.830]of the service department.
[00:02:49.270]They told us many of the great things
[00:02:50.670]that they were doing that directly related
[00:02:52.490]to the classes that we were taking within CASNR
[00:02:55.150]and our Mechanized Systems Management degree program.
[00:02:57.840]This got students excited about the potential careers
[00:03:00.020]that they could be involved in.
[00:03:01.750]We also had a graduate student, Sam Teton
[00:03:04.920]talk about the graduate programs
[00:03:06.510]that Mechanized Systems Management students
[00:03:07.950]could participate in.
[00:03:10.660]I'm sure there was many other examples,
[00:03:12.300]just like this of CASNR faculty/staff and administration
[00:03:15.950]encouraging students to focus on what they can do,
[00:03:18.640]rather than what they couldn't do during the semester.

[00:03:22.193]I speak on behalf of the entire caster student body.

[00:03:33.680]And I'm Morgan Eggleston
[00:03:35.430]And we are both first-year students
[00:03:37.210]in the professional program of Veterinary Medicine.
[00:03:40.500]This year has been kind of a different year,
[00:03:43.140]it's pretty unorthodox compared to other years
[00:03:45.210]and we're just really grateful
[00:03:46.290]to get the opportunity to actually go
[00:03:48.560]into some of our labs and see if you've appears
[00:03:50.940]and get the hands of opportunities that we were able to have
[00:03:53.540]even with all of the restrictions we had to follow.
[00:03:56.790]And I also want to reiterate what she says
[00:03:58.780]but we'd like to thank all of our professors
[00:04:01.370]because they gave us every opportunity
[00:04:04.080]to learn the materials to become proficient
[00:04:07.270]in our future careers as veterinarians.
[00:04:09.941]If we needed a study review on Zoom, they did it,
[00:04:13.680]they made it happen.
[00:04:15.030]If we needed different materials presented to us,
[00:04:17.730]our professors were more than willing to put in the time
[00:04:20.290]and effort to make sure we got the proper education.
