- [00:00:05.250]Hi, I'm Kathy Ankerson,
- [00:00:07.430]Dean of the College of Architecture.
- [00:00:09.930]You may know the excitement of realizing
- [00:00:12.500]you are at ground zero of a transformational movement,
- [00:00:17.160]the synergy that only happens
- [00:00:19.680]when exceptional people come together for a common cause.
- [00:00:24.030]Well, I'm asking you to join me
- [00:00:27.230]and become part of something amazing,
- [00:00:30.120]a game-changing opportunity for the college, our students,
- [00:00:34.120]and our shared legacy.
- [00:00:36.360]Recently, we were blessed with a generous estate gift
- [00:00:40.490]from 1967 alumnus Norman Ochsner,
- [00:00:44.380]who grew up and lived in Norfolk, Nebraska.
- [00:00:48.120]To maximize his forward-thinking gesture,
- [00:00:51.980]we will invest and use this gift
- [00:00:55.100]for matching endowment-level scholarships
- [00:00:58.750]that will continue to support students in perpetuity.
- [00:01:02.810]This is how our matching challenge works.
- [00:01:05.690]We will match any gift of $15,000 or more,
- [00:01:11.330]bringing your donation to endowment level.
- [00:01:14.670]And of course, we encourage you to go beyond that.
- [00:01:18.260]There are several ways you can add
- [00:01:20.540]to the strength of this movement
- [00:01:22.350]and reach that magic $15,000 minimum donation for the match.
- [00:01:27.860]And I'm going to talk to you about just a few of the ways
- [00:01:31.270]we can get there together.
- [00:01:33.150]You might be wondering,
- [00:01:34.880]can I pledge my donation over several years?
- [00:01:38.130]And the answer is yes.
- [00:01:40.440]The foundation has so many creative ways
- [00:01:43.140]to make giving easy.
- [00:01:44.610]Just reach out and we can find a method that works for you.
- [00:01:49.410]Or maybe honoring a loved one
- [00:01:52.470]is something that strongly appeals to you.
- [00:01:55.590]I know that for many of you, your father or mother,
- [00:01:59.620]perhaps your grandparents were the influential figures
- [00:02:03.150]in your educational journey and the person you are today.
- [00:02:08.080]I know many alumni who have created a scholarship to honor
- [00:02:12.290]or commemorate that loved one
- [00:02:14.520]who encouraged or inspired them.
- [00:02:18.020]Creating an endowed named scholarship can be a family affair
- [00:02:23.610]that each of you contribute to.
- [00:02:27.100]Or perhaps you would like the idea of a group gift.
- [00:02:31.480]Let's say you easily recruit 15 people
- [00:02:34.490]from your graduating class to donate $1,000,
- [00:02:39.060]multiply that and you've hit the magic $15,000.
- [00:02:44.050]Of course, 15 is just a small fraction of your class
- [00:02:48.730]and your potential is much higher.
- [00:02:52.830]Are you the person who organizes
- [00:02:54.720]your post-college get togethers?
- [00:02:57.290]If not you, help reach out to those that do.
- [00:03:01.330]Remember, this is a one-to-one match.
- [00:03:04.990]If your class raises $30,000,
- [00:03:08.620]it turns into $60,000 endowment.
- [00:03:12.190]Come on, class of '98, class of 2006, class of '79,
- [00:03:18.240]how much can you raise?
- [00:03:21.220]If you're looking for inspiration,
- [00:03:23.570]look no further than the class of '68,
- [00:03:26.260]which has spearheaded numerous philanthropic endeavors
- [00:03:29.480]over the years, and most recently,
- [00:03:32.090]established an endowed scholarship fund
- [00:03:34.610]that exceeded $60,000.
- [00:03:37.810]Or let's be a bit more creative.
- [00:03:40.880]Does your employer offer matching donations? Many do.
- [00:03:45.370]If you donate $7,500 and they match it,
- [00:03:49.900]you are at the magic $15,000 endowment level already.
- [00:03:55.690]And maybe you work at a large firm
- [00:03:58.900]and they have a UNL alumni group.
- [00:04:01.940]Pull your resources
- [00:04:03.500]and ask your company to match your donation.
- [00:04:06.800]See how this multiplies? It happens fast.
- [00:04:10.350]Plus, many companies have a budget set aside
- [00:04:13.520]for named scholarships and community donations.
- [00:04:17.820]Named scholarships are a great resource
- [00:04:20.820]for recruiting bright new talent to your business.
- [00:04:24.760]You probably thought you were done with homework assignments
- [00:04:27.910]from the College of Architecture.
- [00:04:30.840]Well, I promise you,
- [00:04:32.890]this one will probably be your most rewarding.
- [00:04:37.090]So pick up the phone, text your friends and classmates,
- [00:04:41.790]or if you were involved with Tau Sigma Delta
- [00:04:44.830]or Alpha Rho Chi, reach out to those friends too.
- [00:04:49.340]I know we have all passed on opportunities
- [00:04:52.410]and later regretted not getting involved
- [00:04:54.500]because it became something big, something monumental.
- [00:04:59.080]It only takes one person to start a movement.
- [00:05:02.200]And this is the single largest scholarship building effort
- [00:05:07.270]our college has ever experienced.
- [00:05:10.660]Don't be left behind.
- [00:05:13.400]Join us and together we will do great things.
