- [00:00:06.460]My mother's a police officer.
- [00:00:08.280]So she was working during the Omaha riots
- [00:00:10.710]and we believe
- [00:00:11.900]that's where she had contracted COVID
- [00:00:13.490]and then she had brought it home to my family.
- [00:00:15.880]So pretty much my whole family,
- [00:00:17.210]especially my grandpa who's older he's like 75 ish.
- [00:00:21.363]So having that COVID and seeing it like affect
- [00:00:24.380]the people that I love closest to me was probably one
- [00:00:26.320]of the biggest things.
- [00:00:27.540]And then as well as coming to campus knowing
- [00:00:29.660]that I could possibly expose myself.
- [00:00:31.830]So I'm not able to go home as much
- [00:00:33.470]and see my family is definitely one of the harder things
- [00:00:36.340]that I have to go through,
- [00:00:38.029]especially during this time.
- [00:00:42.009]One thing I always tell students,
- [00:00:43.840]especially my mentees,
- [00:00:45.050]is that it's definitely
- [00:00:46.760]a lot more mental aspects
- [00:00:48.220]that they don't talk about,
- [00:00:49.290]especially being in college,
- [00:00:50.970]like the adjustment from high school.
- [00:00:53.000]So I always tell them my mentees
- [00:00:54.400]to be able to understand like
- [00:00:56.200]how to relieve their stress,
- [00:00:58.160]ways to not let their stress build up as well
- [00:01:00.440]as still enjoy time for yourself.
- [00:01:02.143]Like understanding that you are a student,
- [00:01:04.560]but you're also a human first.
- [00:01:05.926]So make sure that you're taking that time out
- [00:01:08.580]of your life to be able
- [00:01:09.600]to enjoy and live your life as well
- [00:01:11.480]as still focus on your studies.
- [00:01:16.341]Definitely one of the biggest resilient factors
- [00:01:19.160]this year is just being able to get through the year
- [00:01:21.280]and progressing day by day.
- [00:01:23.230]'Cause it seems like every single day is full
- [00:01:25.130]of uncertainty this year.
- [00:01:26.360]You don't know what's gonna happen
- [00:01:28.360]or what's gonna come next.
- [00:01:29.840]And just being able to be prepared as well
- [00:01:31.830]as have yourself ready for
- [00:01:33.262]whatever happens is definitely one
- [00:01:35.120]of the biggest resilience factors that I think
- [00:01:36.810]I was able to gain through this 2020 year.
