- [00:00:03.300]Glennis McClure: We're continuing our series of tutorials for the agricultural budget calculator developed by the University of Nebraska Department of Agriculture economics.
- [00:00:14.340]Glennis McClure: I'm Glynis Maclaurin extension educator and farm and ranch management analyst in the Department of Ag economics. So with this tutorial. Number four, we're going to primarily, take a look at the
- [00:00:28.650]Glennis McClure: University budgets that are populated in the system and how we can utilize those budgets.
- [00:00:35.340]Glennis McClure: If there is an operation within our budgets that we've produced at the university and we've entered into the system, you can call up those budgets and copy
- [00:00:46.380]Glennis McClure: One or more of those into your system go in and then make modifications, so that
- [00:00:53.100]Glennis McClure: A budget can match one of your enterprises. So in the last couple of tutorials. We started a corn budget, a dry land no till after beans corn budget and we only have a couple operations in there. If you'll recall,
- [00:01:12.420]Glennis McClure: And I have many more operations to put in. So I've got another herbicide application. I've got planting operation to do
- [00:01:22.260]Glennis McClure: Combining all the way down to trucking and and those kinds of things. I want to show you that in our 2020 budgets, we don't have 2021 in there just yet, but we will. So any when those are in, you can call up those, but for now we can look back at our
- [00:01:43.050]Glennis McClure: Budgets and find one that's very, very similar and see how that might work for us to populate into our system and then go in and make modifications.
- [00:01:52.080]Glennis McClure: So if you go back up to the tabs here, we'll see that there's UL budgets and we'll go ahead and click on that. So the crop watch budgets.
- [00:02:01.080]Glennis McClure: Are the Excel file budgets that we've done for many years. So that page or that website would pop up for information as well. But the university budgets. I'm going to go ahead and click that.
- [00:02:14.100]Glennis McClure: And you'll see the list of university budgets pops up that we have populated into the system. Now I've already looked to see that.
- [00:02:23.610]Glennis McClure: Corn budget number 23 is a dry land no till after beans, budget and I've looked at the details of that and I think
- [00:02:31.740]Glennis McClure: I think that would be very, very similar to what we're doing. We can make some modifications, so I could look at the report. So as I hover over that I can see that that is the Reports tab.
- [00:02:44.070]Glennis McClure: Few reports or I can just copy that particular budget. So I'm going to do that. I'm going to hit the copy button and it says download this enterprise has successfully been copied into my account. So say okay, that's good.
- [00:02:59.460]Glennis McClure: All right, so then scrolling down. So now the enterprise name is their core number 23 afternoon sale. So I don't want to 23 in there because this is my own budget. So I'm going to rename it. So I'm going to say corn dry land know till after beans and it's
- [00:03:21.270]Glennis McClure: On
- [00:03:22.800]Glennis McClure: homeplace.
- [00:03:25.950]Glennis McClure: I wanted to leave the description of the of the seat characteristics that could, but I'm going to just go ahead and delete that for now.
- [00:03:33.450]Glennis McClure: All right. And I'm going to say this is a new budget that I'm working on. So I've got in the system already my 2021
- [00:03:41.310]Glennis McClure: Of yearly rates and prices. So I'll click that, yes, it is corn. I'll leave that now the university budget show 155 acres
- [00:03:49.770]Glennis McClure: In my case it's 153. I'm going to go ahead and change that yield to 155 to match what would I expect it's not irrigated its own ground and yes in my situation.
- [00:04:06.450]Glennis McClure: cash equivalent value is $175 an acre generally. All right. And I know already that my real estate tax per acre runs about $56 an acre. Alright, so I've got that those changes made. I'm going to go ahead and save those changes.
- [00:04:25.170]Glennis McClure: So now I'm going to go back to the Manage enterprises.
- [00:04:29.820]Glennis McClure: And if you've noticed I had. So basically these, look very similar. This is the one that I just did. So I am basically replacing what I started here with this new budget. So I'm going to go ahead and delete.
- [00:04:42.780]Glennis McClure: The one that I had started for demonstration purposes and go ahead and work with this one. So we've already edited the enterprise. That was the page, we just worked on.
- [00:04:53.010]Glennis McClure: Now I'm going to go ahead and go into the operations and look and see how what needs to be changed in those operations from what the university budget showed from what I have. So first off, I'm going to check this spring burned down
- [00:05:08.010]Glennis McClure: We've already worked with that in a prior tutorial and in this case the university had only 50% of the acres were covered with this burn down and in my case, I'm going to change that to 100%.
- [00:05:20.430]Glennis McClure: And then labor labor shows the university labor. I'm going to go ahead and change that because we had said before.
- [00:05:29.400]Glennis McClure: In my system. I have Bob I had already put his labor rate in there. So I'm going to switch it back to Bob is the one that does our work. So I'm going to save that. Now I've got Bob in there versus with the university labor showed so then also the University
- [00:05:49.230]Glennis McClure: Tractor and equipment shows up and I might want to just leave that if I think it's close to mine. But let's take a look at what's in that.
- [00:05:59.460]Glennis McClure: And yeah, the list price could probably be the same purchase price would be so totally different, but I'm going to go back and take a look at what I have in my list, and they go back up here to the pair unit. I'm going to go ahead and take a look at
- [00:06:14.940]Glennis McClure: No, sorry.
- [00:06:16.800]Glennis McClure: I'm going to go ahead and just get rid of that tractor and then look at, I had this little blue tractor. That's the one I want to use for our spring operations. And also, I believe that I did have
- [00:06:30.120]Glennis McClure: A boom sprayer in there. Well, actually I'm going to go ahead and just leave that boom spare but I could change that to my own. Take a look at the details of this and make sure it's very similar to my own. So I'm good with that.
- [00:06:41.790]Glennis McClure: I'm just gonna leave that for demonstration purposes. Now, but we can make. We can make edits to that. So really quickly also want to check these materials.
- [00:06:49.380]Glennis McClure: And you know the rate applied is fine. But again, I need to go ahead and change that to 100% of this. This material is applied to 100% of my acres. All right. Same way with the to 2-4D, I can change that.
- [00:07:05.070]Glennis McClure: To 100% and then also this additive I'll change that to 100%
- [00:07:12.180]Glennis McClure: Versus what the university showed in their budget. Alright, so we get through that always make sure you save details.
- [00:07:21.090]Glennis McClure: And here we are back then to the operations list so spray fertilizer. I'm going to check that out because what I do, may be different and maybe using a different fertilizer.
- [00:07:33.180]Glennis McClure: 100% of the acres are covered. Again, I could leave the university budget or could go in and say, well, who does that in our operation.
- [00:07:40.950]Glennis McClure: And I would say that I do that me as the owner. I'm going to do that. So click on that hit save. So I've changed that labor to me.
- [00:07:49.200]Glennis McClure: I could change the tractor again. And when I click on that I this a little, little different, but I'm going to, I'm going to just delete that and go back into the little blue
- [00:08:00.360]Glennis McClure: And show that as the pair unit. I'll go ahead and leave this sprayer, but I could change that as well. So let's take a look at how much was applied of that of the fertilizer and I'm going to change that to a 90 pounds of in versus what was there before. Okay.
- [00:08:22.080]Glennis McClure: Alright, so I'll save those details. So I've got the first two operations. I've checked out the plant.
- [00:08:29.910]Glennis McClure: Again, it would be the university equipment. I could would want to go in and change it to the tractor and plan to that I use. I want to make sure that in
- [00:08:39.960]Glennis McClure: Manage inputs. If you recall us just take a quick look here just to recall
- [00:08:45.480]Glennis McClure: In the Manage inputs. I can take a look at what power units I have in my system and the implements now that I've saved in university budget into my system.
- [00:08:54.060]Glennis McClure: Those items that the university budget utilize now are in my system. So if I if I make sure I have my own power units and my own implements in there. I could eventually go in and delete.
- [00:09:07.710]Glennis McClure: Those that are showing from the university. So that's one thing to keep in mind is when we copy from the university budget. Those items are going to show up in our inputs.
- [00:09:18.510]Glennis McClure: The rates, the power units all that information is going to carry over. Same with materials. If I want to make sure I update those I could go to this museum put in update any of those things.
- [00:09:30.510]Glennis McClure: Alright, so again, I'll go back to manage enterprises only have the one that I'm working on, we were taking a look at the
- [00:09:39.390]Glennis McClure: At the operations list. So let's say here, this a spray insecticide custom in July.
- [00:09:46.140]Glennis McClure: That's okay. And these all say, okay, so they're all complete. So the university budget was really good in that it carried over and instead of complete. Remember that if
- [00:09:54.660]Glennis McClure: This is has a red add that means we're missing something in that operation, but I'm going to go ahead and take a look at this.
- [00:10:02.880]Glennis McClure: Spray insecticide. It's a custom job and only 30% of acres are being covered again in this was a custom service. So I have that checked and I'm going to go ahead and leave that
- [00:10:15.570]Glennis McClure: And check and see what's in there. Well, it says $7 an acre. I pay more like $8 an acre. So it could change that and also 30% I'm going to make sure that it's 30%
- [00:10:27.510]Glennis McClure: Of those acres are covered. And so I made some changes with that I could also check to see if the if the materials and inputs are correct.
- [00:10:37.440]Glennis McClure: If I use the same thing. Or if I want to delete something add something different. I could do that. So it's pretty simple once you
- [00:10:44.610]Glennis McClure: Copy over a university budget, you can just go in and make those changes. You'd want to change probably update the combine if you use a grain cart.
- [00:10:54.360]Glennis McClure: Trucking grain again generally in the university budgets, we show that as custom work. And so you would want to check the rates and see what's in on that okay so
- [00:11:04.410]Glennis McClure: That in a nutshell is how it works to copy a university budget over and utilize that as one of your own. So in the next tutorial will take a look at the reports. So join me then. Thank you.
