- [00:00:04.996]It was just before my classes. I was
- [00:00:07.026]going to come shoot some hoops.
- [00:00:08.542]And then some people asked me to play,
- [00:00:10.142]I was wearing the wrong shoes, and then
- [00:00:12.448]first play of the game was a fast break, I
- [00:00:16.058]stop and plant my foot, and twist to catch
- [00:00:18.158]the ball, and then my knee just gives out.
- [00:00:20.388]It pops and then I fall straight to the
- [00:00:22.488]ground. I actually ended up going to the
- [00:00:24.068]hospital and they give me a brace, and
- [00:00:26.738]then I went to an ortho, and then they're
- [00:00:29.708]like, 'Yeah, you tore your ACL and
- [00:00:31.578]meniscus, so you're going to have to have
- [00:00:33.368]surgery on it.' Meniscus surgery is like a
- [00:00:35.718]six month recovery, and ACL surgery is a
- [00:00:37.658]nine month recovery. And during my
- [00:00:40.388]meniscus surgery, I hated everything. I
- [00:00:42.648]couldn't move, I couldn't go hang out with
- [00:00:44.378]friends. Going to classes was terrible. I
- [00:00:47.041]did not like the crutches at all.
- [00:00:50.569]When David first came in, I evaluated him
- [00:00:53.269]for his muscle imbalances, his strength,
- [00:00:57.057]his gait pattern, his range of motion,
- [00:01:00.547]stability and looked at what his goals
- [00:01:03.087]were, and kind of collaborated based on
- [00:01:05.857]his goals and where he needed to just get
- [00:01:08.597]stronger and back to his functional
- [00:01:10.467]activities. It was by far one of the nicest
- [00:01:12.847]physical therapy places I've been to. The
- [00:01:15.659]facility was amazing. I've never seen an
- [00:01:18.729]aqua therapy pool before, so getting to
- [00:01:20.909]be in one was super awesome. The
- [00:01:22.749]therapists there were super nice and helpful
- [00:01:24.959]and explained everything to me. Honestly, I
- [00:01:27.409]don't think I would have gotten back as soon
- [00:01:29.839]as I have without them.
- [00:01:31.299]We used a variety of equipment to treat
- [00:01:33.399]David. We used the stationary bike, the
- [00:01:35.698]treadmill, the leg press, the N-K table,
- [00:01:38.482]and aquatic therapy, which I think David
- [00:01:41.562]benefited the most from.
- [00:01:43.152]Our first plan was to have full range of
- [00:01:46.462]motion, so being able to bend the knee
- [00:01:48.642]past 90 degrees and then decreasing
- [00:01:51.452]swelling, just cause your knee swells up
- [00:01:53.582]a lot. And then after that, we practiced
- [00:01:56.542]on mobility. So a lot of the pool workouts,
- [00:02:00.542]just cause that impact from the ground
- [00:02:03.022]isn't there with the pool.
- [00:02:04.532]We did a lot of running before we would
- [00:02:07.182]have been able to on land. A lot of
- [00:02:09.482]agility. He was able to work on his
- [00:02:12.312]jumping, his hopping to improve his
- [00:02:15.512]sport-specific activity.
- [00:02:21.333]I feel great. Strength is back. I can run.
- [00:02:24.543]I can play basketball now, and my knee
- [00:02:28.543]is good to go.
- [00:02:29.583]We're really privileged here to have
- [00:02:31.383]everything that we do. It makes our job
- [00:02:33.233]that much easier when we have so much
- [00:02:34.783]equipment and so many options to be
- [00:02:37.013]able to treat patients in so many different
- [00:02:39.023]ways, so that's a really great thing about
- [00:02:41.103]our clinic.
- [00:02:42.133]It's convenient, and it's really nice.
- [00:02:44.443]I like it.
