- [00:00:09.950]The global aridity index is modeled
- [00:00:12.650]using the WorldClim global climate data.
- [00:00:16.810]The aridity index is a ratio
- [00:00:18.670]of the mean annual precipitation
- [00:00:21.040]and the mean annual potential evapotranspiration.
- [00:00:25.830]In the global aridity index,
- [00:00:27.820]values increase for more humid conditions
- [00:00:31.160]and decrease for more arid conditions.
- [00:00:33.960]We can see on this map
- [00:00:35.960]that the eastern half of the United States
- [00:00:38.320]as well as some areas in the Northwest are considered humid.
- [00:00:43.020]Areas of the Southwest U.S. are considered arid.
- [00:00:47.990]Back on our map of studies,
- [00:00:49.743]we can use the aridity index filter to narrow our search.
- [00:00:53.880]If you're a grower in a humid environment,
- [00:00:56.730]you may filter out studies
- [00:00:57.970]that were conducted in arid areas by sliding this toolbar
- [00:01:02.080]to show values only greater than .65.
- [00:01:06.940]You may also directly type the lower bound of your value
- [00:01:10.390]into the box here.
- [00:01:14.130]Can clear our (indistinct) filter here
- [00:01:16.690]and if we're a grower in an arid environment,
- [00:01:20.890]we can filter our results
- [00:01:23.000]to show values only less than .65.
- [00:01:29.170]Aridity index ranges for subclasses are listed
- [00:01:31.760]in the table below.
- [00:01:33.580]We've also included a link to more detailed information
- [00:01:36.490]about how the global aridity index values were calculated
- [00:01:39.740]if you'd like to know more.
