- [00:00:02.770]We're in week 10 of our fall semester,
- [00:00:04.900]together on campus in person as much as possible.
- [00:00:08.400]And you absolutely deserve
- [00:00:10.200]a Husker High Five!
- [00:00:12.200]Our Cornhusker Commitment to each other
- [00:00:14.650]has helped us navigate the challenges and risks
- [00:00:17.590]of the global pandemic,
- [00:00:19.130]and it's been important in exceeding expectations.
- [00:00:22.770]Social distancing is really hard,
- [00:00:25.580]largely against our greater nature as human beings.
- [00:00:29.020]And I know it is especially hard for you
- [00:00:31.190]as collegiate scholars.
- [00:00:33.090]As I've said many times over the past seven months,
- [00:00:36.210]none of us chose to be living in a global pandemic
- [00:00:39.230]unlike any in over 100 years.
- [00:00:41.950]And especially you, at this pinnacle educational moment
- [00:00:45.670]in your lives.
- [00:00:47.400]We haven't been perfect.
- [00:00:48.920]We've had a few moments
- [00:00:50.060]where we didn't live up to our standards,
- [00:00:52.400]ones that highlighted the need to do better.
- [00:00:55.260]And we have.
- [00:00:56.880]But in these unprecedented circumstances,
- [00:00:59.310]you've worked hard.
- [00:01:00.640]You've learned the protocols, and in most all cases,
- [00:01:03.710]have adapted well to the requirements needed
- [00:01:06.230]to keep ourselves and each other safe.
- [00:01:09.470]To do public good for all of us and the greater community.
- [00:01:14.510]I'm especially pleased that we haven't seen
- [00:01:16.670]the large outbreaks of COVID-19 cases
- [00:01:19.600]so many other universities around the country have.
- [00:01:23.470]Thank you for your sacrifices, your focus,
- [00:01:26.650]and your commitment.
- [00:01:28.360]But we aren't done yet.
- [00:01:30.460]In the next five weeks, as we finish the semester
- [00:01:33.200]and the seasons change, with winter approaching,
- [00:01:36.280]we cannot get fatigued with the work
- [00:01:38.550]of keeping ourselves, our greater community,
- [00:01:41.760]and each other safe.
- [00:01:43.510]Let's all stay vigilant,
- [00:01:45.400]and finish our semester on campus strong.
- [00:01:48.920]We must remember, COVID-19 will not take a break.
- [00:01:53.680]Not for a Husker Football watch party,
- [00:01:55.870]ignoring recommended health guidelines.
- [00:01:58.500]Not for a night at a crowded bar.
- [00:02:01.000]And not for Halloween.
- [00:02:03.230]Appropriately, and always masking up,
- [00:02:06.240]maintaining social distance,
- [00:02:08.070]good hygiene, and getting tested is how we all win.
- [00:02:13.250]It is particularly important that you be tested
- [00:02:15.710]if you are symptomatic,
- [00:02:17.490]or if you're invited to participate
- [00:02:19.670]in our random mitigation testing.
- [00:02:22.260]We can only help contain this disease
- [00:02:25.000]and keep our community safe
- [00:02:27.140]when we know who has been impacted
- [00:02:29.090]and can do the critical contact tracing
- [00:02:31.520]to inform others of their risk.
- [00:02:34.260]We've come successfully this far,
- [00:02:36.630]and now we have just five more weeks.
- [00:02:39.900]Let's stay dedicated and finish strong.
- [00:02:43.280]It will continue to take all of us,
- [00:02:45.240]but I know we can do it, and that I can count on you
- [00:02:48.730]to be fully Cornhusker Committed.
- [00:02:52.100]Go Big Red!
- [00:02:53.371](upbeat music)
