- [00:00:03.202]When I came to high school, I was really
- [00:00:05.652]into it. I was a little shy and nervous,
- [00:00:07.722]but then I met one of my best friends.
- [00:00:09.472]She was like, "You should try out!", and I
- [00:00:11.062]was like, "I don't know." I ended
- [00:00:13.142]up making it my sophomore year and then
- [00:00:15.242]I made varsity my junior and senior year.
- [00:00:17.582]As we were practicing our cheer routine,
- [00:00:19.532]it was three or two months before state
- [00:00:22.232]and I was the captain, I did a toe touch,
- [00:00:25.752]my hips popped, and I went to land and I
- [00:00:27.862]couldn't. I was in a lot of pain. So I
- [00:00:30.942]guess, every day after that, I just told
- [00:00:32.622]myself I pulled it, it wasn't hurt, I'm
- [00:00:34.362]not sitting out of state, it's my last year.
- [00:00:36.632]I actually stopped jumping two to three
- [00:00:38.862]weeks before state and didn't jump until
- [00:00:40.682]the day of state. I finally went to a doctor
- [00:00:43.822]after state, and it ended up being torn.
- [00:00:54.387]With Destiny, I knew that her goal was to
- [00:00:57.131]try out for the cheer team, so we really
- [00:00:59.810]wanted to look at her range of motion,
- [00:01:02.130]really get her hips moving better, and get
- [00:01:04.520]her strength up so that she was really
- [00:01:06.090]stable enough to perform those jumps
- [00:01:07.790]and things that they require.
- [00:01:09.058]Basically, when I got here, they go,
- [00:01:11.188]"What's your goal?" and I said, "I just
- [00:01:13.008]want to try out for the team again."
- [00:01:14.478]They're all really nice. I actually got to
- [00:01:16.468]work with almost everyone here.
- [00:01:18.158]I just kind of jumped around at first with
- [00:01:19.898]whoever could get me in.
- [00:01:21.149]We utilized a lot of the leg press machine,
- [00:01:25.149]the turf a lot to do some, when we were
- [00:01:27.989]getting back to some light jogging, running
- [00:01:30.829]and that kind of stuff. We utilized the
- [00:01:33.015]rebounder, as we call it. It's like a little
- [00:01:34.605]trampoline to introduce some bouncing but
- [00:01:37.235]with more give and less impact. We utilize
- [00:01:40.262]boxes a lot with difference heights to
- [00:01:42.352]practice jumping and landing.
- [00:01:44.142]Now I'm just kind of jumping, kicking.
- [00:01:46.662]I was so excited to start that again.
- [00:01:49.446]She's doing really well, still has some
- [00:01:51.816]tightness and some weakness is the basis
- [00:01:55.816]of her problems that she's still having.
- [00:01:58.423]So we're still working a lot on strengthening
- [00:02:00.932]and that weight. As we continue to
- [00:02:04.930]strengthen the stability, we'll get there.
- [00:02:06.910]Obviously, I'll be a little upset if I don't
- [00:02:08.443]make the team. I know it's a very
- [00:02:09.892]competitive process. But being able
- [00:02:11.582]to at least try out with being able to do
- [00:02:14.002]the thing I love doing again, that will
- [00:02:15.932]give me some confidence and maybe
- [00:02:18.062]I can try out again at the year after
- [00:02:20.542]next year.
- [00:02:21.314]She's excited. She's been practicing with
- [00:02:23.414]some cheer friends and critiquing each
- [00:02:25.974]other and trying to get back into the jumps
- [00:02:28.664]and things. So she's excited.
- [00:02:30.584]I just love the environment. I would
- [00:02:32.105]recommend it to a lot of people who
- [00:02:33.725]are just scared to reach out. Honestly,
- [00:02:36.172]just go. If you don't like it, don't come
- [00:02:37.782]back, but I'm pretty sure you will.
