- [00:00:40.360]including 16 dedicated Huskers, who have given 45, 50,
- [00:00:45.330]or 55 years of service to our institution.
- [00:00:49.900]I hope you enjoy our virtual celebration,
- [00:00:52.110]featuring messages from our leadership team
- [00:00:54.700]and Rick Alloway's scene setting audio vignettes
- [00:00:57.790]that put each service milestone year in historical context.
- [00:01:02.660]If on this website you see a colleague listed
- [00:01:05.100]among this year's honorees,
- [00:01:06.780]I encourage you to reach out and congratulate them
- [00:01:09.660]on their service achievement.
- [00:01:12.020]Even in the face of great adversity,
- [00:01:14.330]we have so much to celebrate.
- [00:01:17.160]Thank you for everything you do every day
- [00:01:20.440]on behalf of all of our students
- [00:01:22.770]and all Nebraskans everywhere.
- [00:01:27.900]Hello, everyone.
- [00:01:29.600]Let me join others in celebrating your service
- [00:01:32.450]to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:01:34.970]whether you've been here one year, five years, or 55 years,
- [00:01:39.710]I think we can all agree that the past six months
- [00:01:42.170]have challenged us in a myriad of new ways.
- [00:01:45.870]In addition to supporting our university's mission
- [00:01:48.750]with dedication and heart, you have shared
- [00:01:51.520]your individual wisdom, foresight, and expertise
- [00:01:55.040]with the broader campus community
- [00:01:56.810]so that all of us could remain committed to our work
- [00:01:59.940]in service to our students,
- [00:02:01.910]our research and creative activity and our state.
- [00:02:05.140]On behalf of myself and everyone in the EVC office,
- [00:02:08.430]please accept our congratulations and gratitude
- [00:02:11.570]for all that you do every day for our great institution.
- [00:02:17.460]From all of us in UNL Human Resources,
- [00:02:20.040]congratulations on your service awards this year.
- [00:02:23.030]Whether you're celebrating five years
- [00:02:24.700]or 55 years with the university,
- [00:02:26.940]we thank you for your energy and commitment to our students.
- [00:02:30.210]Being in human resources for the past 36 years
- [00:02:33.250]has allowed me to talk with faculty and staff
- [00:02:35.270]who are retiring.
- [00:02:36.730]When I asked them what they will remember the most
- [00:02:38.290]about working at UNL, they say the same thing,
- [00:02:40.967]"It's the relationships".
- [00:02:42.710]I believe we are a unique environment,
- [00:02:44.540]built on relationships.
- [00:02:46.330]We come together for a common purpose
- [00:02:48.520]and support one another to accomplish our collective goals,
- [00:02:51.860]and that's what makes UNL strong.
- [00:02:54.130]Thank you for supporting our community
- [00:02:56.190]and for the relationships you have built.
- [00:03:00.260]And I wanna say congratulations
- [00:03:01.920]to members of our Husker family or your years of service
- [00:03:05.330]to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:03:07.130]the state's flagship institution.
- [00:03:09.480]Thank you for your work, your commitment
- [00:03:12.300]and dedication to this institution.
- [00:03:16.180]Go Huskers, and go Big Red.
- [00:03:20.290]I would just like to add my congratulations
- [00:03:22.480]to all of you being recognized today
- [00:03:24.690]for your outstanding service
- [00:03:26.540]and for making both UNL,
- [00:03:29.460]the Institute of Ag-Natural Resources, and Nebraska,
- [00:03:33.310]in fact the world, a better place.
- [00:03:35.400]Thanks for all you do.
- [00:03:36.730]Thanks for the dedication, your grit, your tenacity
- [00:03:40.420]during these extremely difficult and challenging time.
- [00:03:44.270]Simply put, we couldn't be the institution,
- [00:03:47.290]we wouldn't be the institution we are today
- [00:03:50.440]without your amazing service.
- [00:03:53.030]Thanks for all you do, and go Big Red.
- [00:03:58.280]Congratulations to the honorees
- [00:04:00.170]on this special service milestone.
- [00:04:03.190]We celebrate you, your many accomplishments
- [00:04:05.930]and your amazing contributions to this great university.
- [00:04:09.130]A special shout out to my Student Affairs colleagues.
- [00:04:12.610]I'm proud to have you on our team
- [00:04:14.600]and I'm grateful for all you do to support our students.
- [00:04:18.050]Thank you, and congratulations again.
- [00:04:22.170]Wishing each of our 991 faculty and staff
- [00:04:25.610]celebrating your years of service a congratulations
- [00:04:27.930]and sincere thank you
- [00:04:29.589]for all that you do for this great university.
- [00:04:31.770]And a special shout out
- [00:04:32.680]to my business and finance colleagues celebrating today.
- [00:04:35.360]It's a true pleasure working with each of you.
- [00:04:37.700]This image behind me
- [00:04:38.533]is one of my favorite times of the year,
- [00:04:40.460]as it's a visible reminder of why we're here
- [00:04:42.370]and why our work is so important.
- [00:04:44.360]Each of you played an essential role
- [00:04:45.970]in the success of each of these students,
- [00:04:47.940]and you continue to support the mission in your work
- [00:04:50.370]each and every day.
- [00:04:51.910]Thank you for your service, and congratulations.
- [00:04:56.900]And I just wanna say that it's a pleasure
- [00:05:00.000]to be here with you to celebrate all of your service
- [00:05:03.960]to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:05:06.250]to the state of Nebraska,
- [00:05:08.160]and really, to all of the communities that you touch,
- [00:05:10.610]whether it's your research communities,
- [00:05:13.480]your outreach communities, the students on campus.
- [00:05:17.610]And particularly, it's very important, I think,
- [00:05:22.240]for us to recognize the kind of contributions
- [00:05:25.576]that you've made over the course of your career, but also,
- [00:05:28.750]the contributions that you've made
- [00:05:30.890]in what has been a most unusual and challenging year.
- [00:05:35.320]So, for some, as many as five and a half decades,
- [00:05:41.070]others a little bit shorter,
- [00:05:43.610]you've committed yourself to the mission of our university,
- [00:05:47.130]and in so many varied ways.
- [00:05:49.610]As I've talked about already, you've been in classrooms,
- [00:05:52.380]you've been fields, you've been in labs.
- [00:05:55.690]Your work has been both in Lincoln, it's been in Nebraska,
- [00:05:59.210]it's been around the world,
- [00:06:01.460]and both in teaching, research and outreach,
- [00:06:04.960]and you've contributed to many critical roles,
- [00:06:09.440]some behind the scenes, but all very essential.
- [00:06:14.310]And I'm particularly proud to know
- [00:06:18.200]that the university's research mission
- [00:06:20.940]has stayed active and robust because of your efforts,
- [00:06:25.280]for all the years that you've been committed,
- [00:06:28.340]but also, as I said, during this pandemic,
- [00:06:31.911]and indeed, we're making many different contributions,
- [00:06:36.380]you are, and all of your colleagues and your teammates
- [00:06:40.760]are making very important contributions
- [00:06:45.180]to work related to COVID-19.
- [00:06:47.950]I've never been more appreciative to be more part of a team
- [00:06:52.430]than I've been in 2020.
- [00:06:55.060]And as you can see, I've been in this business for a while.
- [00:06:59.750]I'm happy, I know that there are many of you that I know,
- [00:07:02.280]some that I'd like to know as we move into the years ahead.
- [00:07:07.010]And we've really seen our routines and our work
- [00:07:10.990]change dramatically in the last five months,
- [00:07:15.010]particularly since March.
- [00:07:18.110]But I think I've seen many different creative works,
- [00:07:23.570]creative efforts that people have made,
- [00:07:26.430]to really get the work done,
- [00:07:28.300]to respond to all of the different challenges that we face
- [00:07:34.200]in this state, in the world,
- [00:07:36.560]but also to carry on with the kind of work
- [00:07:41.210]that you dedicated yourselves to
- [00:07:44.930]years ago, if not decades ago.
- [00:07:47.030]And I think it really makes it makes a lot of difference,
- [00:07:52.010]and it speaks to the strength of our university
- [00:07:55.970]that we have so many people that are dedicated
- [00:07:59.190]to getting the work done, to getting the thinking done,
- [00:08:02.250]to creating on a daily basis, and to moving forward
- [00:08:06.940]with all the things that are important
- [00:08:08.930]for us to make this world a better place.
- [00:08:17.564]I'll just say with confidence that,
- [00:08:20.510]as great as our accomplishments have been,
- [00:08:25.070]as great as the many efforts that you've made
- [00:08:29.510]over the years, asked us,
- [00:08:33.710]that I really remained confident
- [00:08:35.830]and I remain very optimistic
- [00:08:38.500]that we have many good years ahead of us,
- [00:08:41.370]we've got great results ahead of us.
- [00:08:44.570]And I wish you well in terms of the celebration today.
- [00:08:48.530]I wish you well in terms of ideas,
- [00:08:50.860]or efforts, with projects that you have in front of you,
- [00:08:55.260]and I thank you once again
- [00:08:56.650]for all of the service that you've made,
- [00:08:59.800]contributing and leading the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
- [00:09:05.100]and the state of Nebraska, and having impact on the world.
- [00:09:08.980]That's really what this university is about.
- [00:09:11.300]So, thank you.
