- [00:00:06.760]Hello, fellow Husker, my name is Ethan Carlson.
- [00:00:09.580]I'm a junior studying Business Management
- [00:00:11.440]from Norfolk, Nebraska, and I'm here to share my perspective
- [00:00:14.350]on spiritual wellbeing in college.
- [00:00:16.370]The first thing I'll say is UNL is home to a welcoming
- [00:00:19.500]and supportive community of diverse minds.
- [00:00:22.460]While I consider myself an evangelical Christian,
- [00:00:25.200]there are incredible communities of many other Christian
- [00:00:28.210]denominations and other religions.
- [00:00:30.860]Every night of the week, you can find a campus ministry
- [00:00:33.660]from crew, to navigators, to the cell company,
- [00:00:36.560]to the fellowship of Catholic university students,
- [00:00:39.070]to many more or Bible studies,
- [00:00:41.270]happening somewhere on campus.
- [00:00:43.610]For me, spiritual wellbeing has been something I've grown in
- [00:00:46.300]by being involved in these campus ministries
- [00:00:48.120]and finding a home church.
- [00:00:49.950]The biggest advice I could give you as someone coming to UNL
- [00:00:53.050]is to get connected and to not be afraid to try out multiple
- [00:00:56.780]college ministries or local churches
- [00:00:58.780]before deciding on one to make your home.
- [00:01:01.610]For those who don't know where they stand spiritually,
- [00:01:04.050]college is a place to explore and discover what you believe.
- [00:01:07.270]I guarantee no matter what, you will find like-minded people
- [00:01:10.460]who share your beliefs and will support you.
- [00:01:13.150]Spiritual well being for any person is an important aspect
- [00:01:16.040]to a person's overall wellbeing.
- [00:01:18.040]In college, it is really what gets me through it all.
- [00:01:20.610]As I mentioned earlier, I am a Christian.
- [00:01:22.570]I grew up in the church and my faith has always been
- [00:01:24.500]an impactful part of my life and purpose.
- [00:01:26.870]In college though, I had to learn to be independent,
- [00:01:28.910]even on my own faith journey.
- [00:01:30.640]That is why getting connected to college was vital
- [00:01:32.970]and helping myself stay grounded
- [00:01:34.630]and learn more about what I believe.
- [00:01:36.800]College can be the place where you grow your faith,
- [00:01:39.780]or it can be the place where you lose it.
- [00:01:41.840]Ultimately it is your decision, but I promise you,
- [00:01:44.200]there are people who want to support you.
- [00:01:46.830]I've had numerous friends and mentors
- [00:01:48.960]encourage me in the toughest times.
- [00:01:51.189]Personally, I can say incredible things
- [00:01:53.740]about the Christian community at UNL,
- [00:01:55.800]but there is a home for every person,
- [00:01:57.530]no matter where they stand spiritually.
