- [00:00:24.670]we will pair you with an advisor
- [00:00:26.030]who will be your go to person here at UNO.
- [00:00:28.570]Now we're gonna talk to Joey Lynch,
- [00:00:30.360]the assistant director here at the Explore Center.
- [00:00:32.560]Well, one of the rules of the Explore Center
- [00:00:34.310]academic advisors help with academic support.
- [00:00:37.030]So everything from making sure
- [00:00:39.310]that you're gonna be successful in classes
- [00:00:40.910]and that you're in the right classes for your major
- [00:00:43.560]and for your skill levels.
- [00:00:45.160]Also just finding the buildings
- [00:00:47.740]that you wanna go to your class.
- [00:00:48.750]If you get lost on campus,
- [00:00:50.500]your academic advisor is always there to help you
- [00:00:52.480]and really is kinda,
- [00:00:54.540]there as a support role for you throughout your time

- [00:00:58.410]For all of our students who work a lot on major exploration,
- [00:01:02.020]so unpacking like what your interests,
- [00:01:04.410]your skills and your values are
- [00:01:06.010]and what majors might be a good fit for those
- [00:01:09.350]and also what career paths for once you graduate from UNL.
- [00:01:13.040]And we also work a lot with our pre-professional students
- [00:01:15.570]on some of the things that are outside of academics.
- [00:01:17.670]So preparing for the standardized exams,
- [00:01:21.170]like the MCAT or the LSAT,
- [00:01:22.890]or getting connected with professional schools to help you,
- [00:01:25.740]that you might wanna attend
- [00:01:26.660]after you finished your time here at UNL,
- [00:01:29.040]helping with that application process and all of that.

- [00:02:11.820]She is our career advisor here at the Explore Center.
- [00:02:14.900]I just love to get to talk with our students
- [00:02:17.090]about their different career interests and passions,
- [00:02:20.570]and to work with them towards those goals.
- [00:02:22.730]I love it when we polish a resume
- [00:02:25.570]and then the student lets me know that they got the job
- [00:02:28.260]or landed that internship.

- [00:02:37.100]There are a lot of things you can do
- [00:02:38.290]to start learning before coming to campus.
- [00:02:40.370]The biggest thing is going to be to start meeting people
- [00:02:42.550]that are already in your areas of interest.
- [00:02:44.580]You can ask them if you can drop shadow with them,
- [00:02:46.590]volunteer with them, ask them what advice they have for you,
- [00:02:49.440]or just ask them about how they got to where they are.
- [00:02:51.760]All these things will help you identify different careers,
- [00:02:54.100]majors, and areas of interest
- [00:02:55.530]that you'll wanna explore even further.
