Description
Research has been active at the Soybean Management Field Days locations throughout 2020. We are excited to share our field day presentations with growers. Presentations were recorded at the Bart and Geoff Ruth farm near Rising City, NE.
The field days are sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board in partnership with Nebraska Extension in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and are funded through soybean checkoff dollars. The efforts of the checkoff are directed by the United Soybean Board promoting progress powered by U.S. farmers.
The Soybean Management Field Days website is at: http://enrec.unl.edu/soydays. You can also find us on Twitter and Facebook. And you can contact us at: the Nebraska Soybean Board at (402) 441-324012 or Nebraska Extension at 1-800-529-8030.

- [00:00:07.330]Welcome to 2020's Soybean Management Field Days.
- [00:00:10.710]My name is Keith Glewen, I'm an Extension Educator,
- [00:00:13.840]and we welcome you to our virtual field day.
- [00:00:17.540]We started off with great intentions,
- [00:00:19.480]in the Fall of 2019, we established our plot protocols.
- [00:00:23.960]Visited with soybean growers, soybean board members,
- [00:00:26.750]on what topics we thought were most important,
- [00:00:29.500]to soybean production in Nebraska.
- [00:00:31.860]So, we seeded some cover crops in November of 2019,
- [00:00:36.430]with great anticipations that we would be gathering,
- [00:00:39.000]with you today at four different locations across Nebraska.
- [00:00:42.760]I'd like to thank the four cooperators,
- [00:00:45.670]Jerome Fritz and Hildreth, and Kevin Dinslage,
- [00:00:49.870]up at Elgin and Mike Fuchs at Arlington.
- [00:00:52.870]And today we're taping this at the Bart and Jeff Ruth farm,
- [00:00:58.190]near Shelby, Nebraska.
- [00:01:00.990]We're going to be making reference throughout the day,
- [00:01:04.600]of a Grower's Workbook which you will also be able,
- [00:01:07.480]to access virtually or online.
- [00:01:10.530]So we encourage you to maybe put that off on another screen,
- [00:01:14.700]and you can read through that,
- [00:01:17.330]when you're listening to some of the presentations,
- [00:01:19.840]or at your convenience.
- [00:01:21.250]You can go back and cover some of the highlights,
- [00:01:24.410]of some of the presenters.
- [00:01:26.320]We're editing these presentations into short segments,
- [00:01:30.420]five to 10 to 15 minutes in length for your viewing ease.
- [00:01:35.150]And sometimes there's topics you may not be interested in.
- [00:01:39.520]So we're not gonna make you sit back and listen,
- [00:01:42.920]to a full four hours of presentations.
- [00:01:45.930]So we have four topics today we're going to cover.
- [00:01:48.830]And in the Growers Study Book,
- [00:01:52.430]there's a listing of University of Nebraska faculty,
- [00:01:55.850]that are giving the presentations.
- [00:01:57.530]And you're welcome to touch them,
- [00:01:59.780]either by giving them a call,
- [00:02:01.900]or sending them an email.
- [00:02:05.170]So again on behalf of Nebraska Extension,
- [00:02:08.020]we'd like to thank you for joining us today,
- [00:02:10.500]and we'd like to thank the Nebraska Soybean Board,
- [00:02:13.980]for their investment.
- [00:02:15.690]This is our 22nd year and it's been an excellent,
- [00:02:19.180]educational program and it's been a great partnership.
- [00:02:22.690]So best wishes for the remainder of the growing season.
- [00:02:27.010]Maybe you're watching this when the snow is flying,
- [00:02:29.750]so I hope you've had a safe and safe year so far.
- [00:02:33.830]And we'll see you in 2021,
- [00:02:35.850]hopefully back in the field thank you.

- [00:02:56.600]by UNL Extension Educators.

- [00:03:08.260]Soybean Management Field Days.
- [00:03:10.380]It's a little bit different this year,
- [00:03:11.700]and that we're bringing it to you,
- [00:03:12.730]in a virtual type of a way.
- [00:03:14.540]And yet this looks like it could be one of the best,
- [00:03:16.880]Soybean Management Field Days ever.
- [00:03:18.610]Just simply because of the research projects,
- [00:03:21.180]that we have lined up for you.
- [00:03:22.690]The information that you'll be hearing.
- [00:03:24.690]The segments that really focus on how to make,

- [00:03:35.510]These are really your checkoff dollars at work.
- [00:03:38.210]And we've received great feedback down through the years.
- [00:03:42.130]We can take tips and management practices,
- [00:03:44.450]and information to apply to our own Soybean farmers,
- [00:03:47.570]back at home and I trust that you'll thoroughly,
- [00:03:50.330]enjoy this virtual presentation.
- [00:03:52.980]And although we don't have our boots on the ground,
- [00:03:55.090]or sitting under a tent listening to presenters in person.
- [00:03:59.340]We can maybe see that this will even find us a better way,
- [00:04:03.040]to learn and grow as a Soybean producer.
- [00:04:06.140]Taking these segments, maybe viewing them in your office,
- [00:04:09.350]or viewing them at home,
- [00:04:10.590]or in a class room type setting with others.
- [00:04:12.740]So enjoy these presentations,
- [00:04:16.690]put them to work on your farm.
- [00:04:18.020]Give us feedback on what you're learning,
