[00:00:13.210]We feel diversity and inclusion is vital
[00:00:16.100]to the Nebraska business community.
[00:00:18.200]We are stronger because of our diverse students, faculty,
[00:00:21.870]staff, alumni, business partners, parents and friends.
[00:00:26.250]This is why our community felt so passionately
[00:00:29.270]about having a guiding principle of be inclusive
[00:00:33.090]when we developed our new strategic plan in 2018,
[00:00:36.670]but we must do more.
[00:00:38.530]We believe that every person and every interaction matters.
[00:00:42.820]This core aspiration guides us
[00:00:45.170]to take real and meaningful steps
[00:00:47.690]toward turning diversity and inclusion initiatives
[00:00:50.740]into reality.
[00:00:52.380]This summer, we accelerated the process
[00:00:55.100]of creating a diversity and inclusion strategic plan
[00:00:58.440]for our college
[00:00:59.520]to identify actions we can take to create real change.

[00:01:10.250]about how we can do better and implementing change.
[00:01:14.840]Guided by the leadership
[00:01:16.050]of the university's Office of Diversity and Inclusion,
[00:01:19.300]we commit to fostering
[00:01:20.930]an inclusive, equitable and welcoming campus.
[00:01:25.000]Some initial actions taken within the College of Business
[00:01:28.070]include expanding the role of Associate Dean Rick Barrera
[00:01:31.490]to include leading our diversity and inclusion efforts.
[00:01:35.040]His leadership and insight are invaluable
[00:01:37.640]as we continue developing a safe and inclusive community.
[00:01:41.910]Plans to transform the Husker Shop
[00:01:44.530]into a new inclusive excellence gathering space are underway
[00:01:48.440]here in Hawk's Hall
[00:01:49.710]with the expectation to open later in the fall of this year.
[00:01:53.480]We are also forming a diversity and inclusion advisory board
[00:01:57.870]consisting of faculty, staff, students,
[00:02:00.970]external business partners and alum
[00:02:03.590]to provide advice, inspire action and ensure accountability.
[00:02:08.930]Additionally, we are expanding our training
[00:02:11.720]for faculty and staff to become inclusive ambassadors
[00:02:15.060]and enhancing our business curriculum
[00:02:17.040]with a greater focus on diversity and inclusion.
[00:02:20.350]This is just the beginning of our commitment to real change.
