Husker Dialogues is a diversity and inclusion event designed to introduce first-year students to tools they can use to engage in meaningful conversations to help create an inclusive Husker community.

- [00:00:14.000]Hello Huskers. My name is Saisha Adhikari and I serve
- [00:00:17.150]as the ASUN Student Government External Vice President.
- [00:00:20.480]ASUN is the largest student organization on campus
- [00:00:23.400]and serves to represent both undergraduate
- [00:00:25.530]and graduate students at UNL.
- [00:00:27.980]We serve as a voice of students
- [00:00:29.560]and represent student interests
- [00:00:31.070]while allocating millions of dollars in student fees.
- [00:00:34.270]Two of our most important projects include Converge Nebraska
- [00:00:37.320]and the Green Bandana Project.
- [00:00:39.490]If you've gained a valuable experience
- [00:00:41.210]from "Husker Dialogues,"
- [00:00:42.320]I encourage you to participate in Converge Nebraska.
- [00:00:45.400]This program allows students the opportunity
- [00:00:47.670]to sit with another student
- [00:00:49.130]of a different political ideology than them,
- [00:00:51.420]and have a civil discussion about how we can learn
- [00:00:53.770]to approach our disagreements with respect,
- [00:00:56.390]empathy and understanding.
- [00:00:58.560]If interested, you first fill out a Google survey
- [00:01:00.890]about your political beliefs. Then, ASUN will match you
- [00:01:04.500]with someone who holds a different perspective than you.
- [00:01:07.600]You and your partner will be given a guide
- [00:01:09.130]for conversation points, which focuses around the discussion
- [00:01:12.270]about the development of your opinions.
- [00:01:15.190]Another student-led initiative is the Green Bandana Project.
- [00:01:18.530]As you're walking on campus,
- [00:01:19.980]you may see hints of green in the sea of Husker red.
- [00:01:22.640]This green bandana, that over 3,000 students carry
- [00:01:25.560]on their backpacks or wrist, symbolizes the support
- [00:01:28.450]of mental health resources.
- [00:01:30.320]A resource card is also provided with each green bandana
- [00:01:33.460]that lists both on- and off-campus mental health resources
- [00:01:37.090]for students who are seeking to be connected.
- [00:01:39.900]By raising awareness about mental health,
- [00:01:41.810]and showing our support to our peers who may be suffering,
- [00:01:44.980]we are taking the steps towards de-stigmatizing
- [00:01:47.370]mental health to ensure a happier, healthier environment.
