- [00:00:05.040]Hi, I'm Haley.
- [00:00:06.290]And I'm Olivia.
- [00:00:07.960]We're students here at Nebraska.
- [00:00:09.530]And today we're going to take a look at using your meal plan
- [00:00:12.120]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:14.460]There are so many reasons to get excited
- [00:00:16.150]about your time at Nebraska, but one in particular,
- [00:00:18.770]is all the delicious food we have
- [00:00:20.240]at our dining locations across campus.
- [00:00:22.650]Having a meal plan means you won't have to worry about
- [00:00:24.710]carrying cash or a credit card in order to eat on campus.
- [00:00:28.150]And that a delicious snack or meal is always nearby.
- [00:00:31.000]So before the semester starts,
- [00:00:32.390]you need to pick up your NCard.
- [00:00:34.452](upbeat music)
- [00:00:38.753]Your NCard will serve as your official NU ID,
- [00:00:41.200]your key card to enter your residence hall
- [00:00:43.090]and the card you use to pay for your meals on campus.
- [00:00:45.700]Your meal plan is composed of two parts,
- [00:00:47.660]meal swipes and dining dollars.
- [00:00:49.150]So first let's talk about meal swipes.
- [00:00:51.594](upbeat music)
- [00:00:57.480]Every Sunday your card will reload
- [00:00:59.140]with a certain number of meals swipes,
- [00:01:00.840]depending on which meal plan you have selected.
- [00:01:02.980]This ensures that you always have meals
- [00:01:04.920]for the upcoming week since meal swipes
- [00:01:06.343]from the previous week don't roll over.
- [00:01:08.870]The use of one meal swipe from your meal plan
- [00:01:10.930]at a dining center gives you access
- [00:01:12.820]to as much food as you'd like to eat during that visit.
- [00:01:16.660]Using your meal swipes
- [00:01:17.493]in the dining center maybe your best value.
- [00:01:20.000]But, sometimes you may want to use your meal swipes
- [00:01:21.930]at a different campus dining location.
- [00:01:24.140]This is called a meal exchange.
- [00:01:26.577](upbeat music)
- [00:01:32.670]When the meal swipe is used at a location
- [00:01:34.780]other than the dining centers,
- [00:01:35.990]you'll hear it referred to as a meal exchange.
- [00:01:38.730]Meal exchanges are worth a certain dollar amount
- [00:01:40.950]set by the Food Services Director each year.
- [00:01:43.720]Say for example, a meal exchange is worth $8,
- [00:01:46.820]that means when I go to Husker Heroes,
- [00:01:48.780]I can get a combo meal, which includes a sandwich, chips,
- [00:01:51.520]a piece of fruit, a 16 ounce drink,
- [00:01:53.350]and a cookie using one meal exchange,
- [00:01:55.600]because the total isn't more than $8.
- [00:01:59.700]But what if you wanna purchase more food
- [00:02:01.530]than a meal exchange is worth?
- [00:02:03.380]This brings us to the second part
- [00:02:04.820]of your meal plan, dining dollars.
- [00:02:08.334](upbeat music)
- [00:02:12.290]You can think of dining dollars on your meal plan
- [00:02:14.450]like dollars on a debit card.
- [00:02:16.240]One dining dollar equals $1.
- [00:02:18.670]Now the great thing about dining dollars
- [00:02:20.600]is that they're really flexible
- [00:02:22.230]and can be used at any housing operated
- [00:02:24.500]on campus dining location at any time.
- [00:02:28.440]So say I go to Husker Heroes
- [00:02:30.230]and get a sandwich combo and an extra drink.
- [00:02:33.010]Now the extra drink is going to put my total
- [00:02:35.027]$1 over the amount of a meal exchange.
- [00:02:37.530]So I'm going to pay with one meal exchange
- [00:02:39.680]and one dining dollar.
- [00:02:41.169](upbeat music)
- [00:02:42.002]You can also use dining dollars for anything,
- [00:02:44.140]like getting coffee or shopping
- [00:02:45.880]at one of our Herbie's Market convenience stores.
- [00:02:49.870]Herbie's Market is a great place
- [00:02:51.100]to get breakfast on the go, afternoon snacks
- [00:02:53.450]and supplies for your room.
- [00:02:55.220]You receive half of your dining dollars
- [00:02:56.920]at the beginning of each semester.
- [00:02:58.460]So, try to budget them.
- [00:03:00.450]Dining dollars roll over from fall the spring semester,
- [00:03:03.120]but if you don't use all your dining dollars
- [00:03:04.930]by the end of the spring semester, you lose them.
- [00:03:07.740]If you happen to run out, you can always purchase
- [00:03:09.690]more at the main housing office.
- [00:03:11.860]On the third floor of the Willa Cather Dining Complex,
- [00:03:14.780]or online at housing.unl.edu.
- [00:03:18.490]Don't worry about purchasing more meal swipes
- [00:03:20.830]since they automatically renew each week.
- [00:03:23.360]And if you'd like, you can change
- [00:03:24.990]your meal plan once per semester,
- [00:03:26.490]during the second week,
- [00:03:27.640]after the official contract start date.
- [00:03:29.850]To view your meal plan,
- [00:03:30.910]log onto your contract at myred.unl.edu,
- [00:03:34.430]then click on the housing portal.
- [00:03:36.065](upbeat music)
- [00:03:38.360]We hope this helps you understand your meal plan
- [00:03:40.390]and make the most out of all the dining options on campus.
- [00:03:43.520]We can't wait to welcome you
- [00:03:44.850]to your new home at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:03:48.019](upbeat music)
- [00:04:11.783]A meal swipe gives you access
- [00:04:12.880]to any of our five dining centers.
- [00:04:15.960]The Abel, Cather, Harper,
- [00:04:17.630]East Campus and Selleck dining centers
- [00:04:19.580]are the campus' all you care to eat venues,
- [00:04:21.750]with varying food concepts inside.
