[00:00:04.480]I'm an assistant professor in the Special Education Program here at UNL.
[00:00:07.400]And I would like to take the time to welcome you to our Special Education
[00:00:10.760]Program. We're really excited to have you here and to join our program.
[00:00:14.850]We're excited for your future and for your potential as a leader, um,
[00:00:18.770]educating students from all backgrounds here in Nebraska and beyond.
[00:00:23.450]We have a really great opportunities and aspects of our program for you,
[00:00:27.110]including the opportunity to tutor students in the Kit and Dick Schmoker,
[00:00:31.190]Reading Center in a one on one setting, um, throughout your program,
[00:00:34.220]as well as numerous other practicum opportunities.
[00:00:36.740]We have really great faculty to learn from,
[00:00:39.200]and we have great faculty here conducting research,
[00:00:41.600]and you have the opportunity through different university programs like UCARE
[00:00:44.990]to get involved in that research. Um,
[00:00:47.660]that's my biggest piece of advice for incoming students is to get involved,
[00:00:51.320]get to know your fellow students, get to know your teachers, um,
[00:00:55.940]build those connections.
[00:00:57.140]They will be really valuable for you in your future career, um,
[00:01:01.730]and pursuing master's degree in education if you choose to do so. Um,
[00:01:06.950]again, we, you know, we're just really excited to have you, um,
[00:01:10.040]I recommend that you look into all the opportunities we have maybe join the
[00:01:13.520]Student Council for Exceptional Children, um, and,
[00:01:16.570]and other types of student organizations that are related to special education.
[00:01:21.200]Um, hopefully we'll see, um, I'll get to see you in class soon in the fall, um,
[00:01:26.100]and enjoy the rest of your summer and, um, good luck in your program. Thanks.
