[00:00:06.860]My name is Beth Dinneen and I'm an instructor and clinical supervisor in the
[00:00:11.600]Communication Sciences and Disorders Program.
[00:00:14.570]For those of you exploring and pursuing a degree in Speech Pathology or
[00:00:18.710]Audiology, I will be one of the first faces, you see,
[00:00:22.310]as you take your SLPA 150 course, Introduction to Communication Disorders.
[00:00:29.270]As you move through your undergraduate career at UNL,
[00:00:33.140]you will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from a variety of our
[00:00:37.370]graduate instructors,
[00:00:39.290]observed Speech Pathology, and Audiology sessions in our in-house clinic.
[00:00:43.460]Get involved in research and learn about the variety of these careers have to
[00:00:47.960]offer. We do have a few tips to help you be more successful in your program,
[00:00:52.220]including make connections with your instructors.
[00:00:56.300]Introduce yourselves, ask questions,
[00:00:58.700]and become engaged in your own learning and education.
[00:01:02.390]We also encourage you to join our student organization,
[00:01:06.140]the National Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association.
[00:01:09.920]This organization will allow you to connect with others in the major and will
[00:01:14.300]provide you with ways to volunteer and become more involved.
[00:01:18.830]We also suggest you visit with your advisor every semester to make sure you're
[00:01:23.300]staying on track. And on top of all the program requirements.
[00:01:29.210]I know these are very difficult and trying times,
[00:01:33.050]but we are all in this together and together we can ensure a safe and successful
[00:01:38.150]semester. I look forward to meeting all of you soon.
