- [00:00:17.550]I work as a studio assistant for Professor Byron Anway making graphic pencil drawings.

- [00:00:25.500]Professor Anway's research focuses on the excitement and danger of large
- [00:00:31.450]groups using a variety of picture- making materials and techniques.
- [00:00:37.410]This interest came from his time living and working overseas in Europe and Africa.
- [00:00:43.680]Through drawing, painting,
- [00:00:45.630]digital collage, and water color, he combines news photos,
- [00:00:50.190]memory, architecture, and figuration
- [00:00:52.840]to recreate significance moments of the world and personal history.
- [00:00:59.730]Through the Ucare program,
- [00:01:01.280]I assist in realizing Professor Anway's imagery using my skills in drawing and painting.
- [00:01:10.770]While working for Professor Anway, I learned some drawing techniques specific
- [00:01:16.080]to his artistic practice, including toning, hatching,
- [00:01:20.850]shading, blending,
- [00:01:22.620]and fixing the drawing in layers to create illusions of space and realism.
- [00:01:29.340]Professor Anway has a list of artists who use similar techniques for me to use
- [00:01:35.040]as reference in my work.
- [00:01:38.850]I also went on the internet for some inspiration,
- [00:01:42.360]history, articles, and drawing tutorials.
- [00:01:46.080]Here are two inspiration pictures from my research.
- [00:01:55.260]Our objective is to make drawings that show a spiritual, meditative, or a
- [00:02:02.190]dreamlike state. These drawings will show waves,
- [00:02:06.030]fire, clouds,
- [00:02:07.800]and other environmental occurrences. By overlaying these natural events with
- [00:02:13.620]groups of people
- [00:02:15.150]we hope to evoke a feeling of dream, memory, or spirituality.
- [00:02:26.340]Here are some pictures of my process.
- [00:02:31.890]Both of the first and second ones are about Islamic people doing worship.
- [00:02:39.240]We add some patterns on the second one to make it more meditative and dreamlike.
- [00:02:47.700]I always start with a draft,
- [00:02:52.320]then draw each layer.
- [00:02:57.280]This is the draft for the first drawing.I drew a lot of circles to help me determine the space and size of each person.
- [00:03:10.420]Then I started drawing each person,
- [00:03:12.850]adding some details, like hair, clothes folds,
- [00:03:17.260]and the pattern on their hats.
- [00:03:22.360]The last step is to add highlights and shadows.
- [00:03:26.290]I used a graphic stick to create the dark gray tone,
- [00:03:30.880]and I used a pen-style eraser to pull out the highlight
- [00:03:40.660]For the second drawing,
- [00:03:42.550]I did a lot of measurements in order to make the pattern looks more accurate and
- [00:03:47.670]precise.
- [00:03:49.780]Then I did the same steps as I did for the first drawing.
- [00:04:02.350]The third and force ones are natural occurrences.
- [00:04:07.870]I searched for some pictures of waves, clouds, and lands.
- [00:04:12.970]Then I drew them based on the pictures and my own experiences.

- [00:04:27.760]combining both my drawings and his together.
- [00:04:32.050]He added some colors and a lot of movement to it.
- [00:04:38.320]We will be making more drawings like this in the future.
- [00:04:46.540]The drawings that I make with Professor Anway will be submitted for numerous
- [00:04:51.880]national and international exhibitions, proposals, and competitions.
- [00:04:57.610]I will keep helping Professor Anway drawing graphite pencil drawing,
- [00:05:03.250]keep research for inspirations online or at love library, and keep learning new
- [00:05:09.280]drawing skills.
- [00:05:10.930]I am planning to create my own drawing recently and I'll finish it at the end
- [00:05:16.900]of this year.
- [00:05:18.370]I will try to apply for national and international exhibition opportunities.
- [00:05:23.830]I also plan to submit the artworks from my own practice for a number of
- [00:05:30.340]students juried art exhibitions during the 2020-2021 academic year.
