- [00:00:12.720]and we recognize there are serious issues
- [00:00:14.530]we need to address, but how do we do it?

- [00:00:19.030]How do we connect with others in our communities?
- [00:00:21.140]More importantly, how do we become leaders?
- [00:00:24.360]The civic leaders track in the honors college
- [00:00:26.370]is a tremendous opportunity to look around,
- [00:00:29.250]really look at this changing world,
- [00:00:31.250]try to make sense of it and find your path
- [00:00:33.440]to enact the change you feel is necessary.
- [00:00:36.300]In this program,
- [00:00:37.133]we want to cultivate a lifelong habit of civic engagement
- [00:00:40.410]by providing students with interactive classes
- [00:00:42.850]and access to community leaders.
- [00:00:45.140]So what can you expect in your experiences
- [00:00:46.987]in the civic leaders honors track
- [00:00:49.900]First, you'll be introduced to
- [00:00:51.750]and provided opportunities
- [00:00:53.090]to reflect on core civic engagement values.
- [00:00:55.845]What is civic engagement?
- [00:00:57.775]Civic engagement refers to the idea of working
- [00:01:00.186]to make a difference in the civic life
- [00:01:02.230]of our communities
- [00:01:03.180]and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values,
- [00:01:06.960]and motivation to make that difference.
- [00:01:09.722]These values include understanding
- [00:01:11.790]and appreciating diversity of communities and cultures.
- [00:01:14.870]Applying your knowledge from academic study
- [00:01:16.870]to civic involvement,
- [00:01:18.430]developing your specific civic identity,
- [00:01:21.390]learning competencies to enhance your communication skills

- [00:01:54.520]to apply ideas and concepts related to civic leadership
