Hunter Bergman, marketing and entrepreneurship student, shares how getting involved in a student organization helped him after he transferred to Nebraska Business.

[00:00:04.420]with a minor in entrepreneurship.
[00:00:06.281]I've got a little bit different path than most students.
[00:00:09.240]I spent two years at a community college
[00:00:10.920]and got my associates degree.
[00:00:12.420]And then I transferred last fall
[00:00:14.060]to the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
[00:00:16.750]It was a great transition,
[00:00:17.850]although at first it was quite overwhelming,
[00:00:20.110]going from a class room of 20 people
[00:00:22.920]to a classroom of 300 people was quite intimidating,
[00:00:27.890]but I soon found my place.
[00:00:29.510]I got involved with the Center for Entrepreneurship.
[00:00:31.900]They helped me start my small business.
[00:00:34.000]I now have five clients.
[00:00:35.670]I am also an executive member for Big Red Startups.
[00:00:38.670]Big Red Startups startups,
[00:00:39.503]is a student organization dedicated
[00:00:41.360]to providing young entrepreneurs with the resources
[00:00:43.730]and connections to be successful on campus.
[00:00:46.920]We've been doing virtual events.
[00:00:48.730]I've been able to talk to some very cool founders,
[00:00:51.890]just virtually through zoom.
[00:00:53.240]I really encourage all incoming students to check us out.
[00:00:56.800]We've got two virtual events a week.
[00:00:59.120]We've got Monday Motivation Coworking and Founder Fridays.
[00:01:01.970]Founder Fridays is a super cool event to just hang out
[00:01:04.320]and meet other younger entrepreneurs,
[00:01:06.140]more like minded individuals.
[00:01:07.970]Entrepreneurship is all shapes and sizes.
[00:01:10.280]You don't have to have a tech startup
[00:01:11.730]or a specific, you know, side hustle that makes you better
[00:01:15.660]than everyone else.
[00:01:16.594]One of my friends sells honey, she's a beekeeper.
[00:01:19.440]And so I say this because I think, you know,
[00:01:21.610]my advice for incoming students is just to get involved,
[00:01:24.470]you know, find your passion and really, really do it.
[00:01:27.670]I had some really good advice given
[00:01:29.960]to me by my business Dean at my community college.
[00:01:32.700]Let me say,
[00:01:33.533]"It's easier to figure out what you don't want to do,"
[00:01:35.237]"than what you do want to do."
[00:01:36.570]So take opportunities and challenge yourself.
[00:01:39.440]You know, if you put yourself in a position where,
[00:01:41.482]it's kind of frustrating,
[00:01:43.390]then you know that you don't really want
[00:01:44.820]to be in that position in the future,
[00:01:45.780]but those skills you learned there could be very valuable.
