- [00:00:01.150]Hi everyone, my name is Megan Dill.
- [00:00:03.440]And I am a senior International Business student,
- [00:00:07.080]with a double major in Spanish.
- [00:00:09.610]I'm here today to talk to you guys
- [00:00:11.600]about some advice that was given to me
- [00:00:13.750]as an incoming freshman here.
- [00:00:15.640]And something I wanna pass along to you guys
- [00:00:17.780]as you start this really awesome journey
- [00:00:20.140]of the years that you're gonna spend here
- [00:00:22.040]at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:00:24.610]First and foremost, make sure you take the time
- [00:00:28.240]to get to know your professors.
- [00:00:30.480]The professors here are all amazing,
- [00:00:34.360]and they're all really nice.
- [00:00:36.380]And I know it can be nerve-wracking at first,
- [00:00:38.770]but make sure you go down
- [00:00:40.440]and introduce yourself to your professors,
- [00:00:43.290]even if it's a large lecture hall.
- [00:00:45.340]I know it's gonna be a lot of people
- [00:00:46.800]won't introduce themselves on the first day,
- [00:00:49.020]so maybe within that first week at least,
- [00:00:51.910]go and introduce yourself.
- [00:00:53.100]And then later on, make sure to go to those office hours.
- [00:00:56.410]And even if you don't necessarily have a content question
- [00:00:59.420]to ask them about the course, or something like that,
- [00:01:02.610]make sure you go there and just chat with them, you know.
- [00:01:05.620]They are more than willing to just talk,
- [00:01:08.560]and you know, ask them about their careers.
- [00:01:10.650]Ask them about, you know, why they love to teach
- [00:01:13.420]here at the University.
- [00:01:15.040]Because, honestly, they could talk for days about that.
- [00:01:18.110]So these connections that you'll make with your professors
- [00:01:23.040]this way will provide you with really important connections
- [00:01:27.620]to the university and to the College of Business as a whole.
- [00:01:32.040]So just speaking from personal experience,
- [00:01:35.490]I had a professor that I got to know
- [00:01:38.400]my freshman year of school,
- [00:01:39.930]and she actually introduced me to the research lab
- [00:01:43.650]that I worked for my sophomore year of school,
- [00:01:46.800]which was an invaluable learning experience for me.
- [00:01:50.300]And you know, I have that professor
- [00:01:52.330]to thank for that connection.
- [00:01:53.690]Because I didn't know about this research lab
- [00:01:57.140]until she told me.
- [00:01:58.060]So it was absolutely amazing.
- [00:02:01.500]And it's just a small example
- [00:02:03.400]of what getting to know your professors
- [00:02:05.930]can do for your college experience.
- [00:02:07.870]It's really, really important.
