[00:00:09.210]located in Saline, Jefferson, and Gage County,
[00:00:11.610]but I work with researchers and other colleagues
[00:00:14.620]across Nebraska on winter wheat,
[00:00:16.190]and one of our efforts is to have variety trials each year
[00:00:18.470]to help growers make decisions
[00:00:20.250]on what varieties they're gonna plant.
[00:00:21.750]So we're here today at Lancaster County,
[00:00:24.460]one of three locations
[00:00:25.770]for our eastern Nebraska variety trials.
[00:00:27.620]We also have locations in Saunders County
[00:00:29.910]and Washington County.
[00:00:31.380]So we're gonna go through just like we normally do
[00:00:33.192]for an in-person field day
[00:00:34.780]and go through each variety today.
[00:00:36.660]Here at the Lancaster variety trial,
[00:00:38.710]we have 24 varieties.
[00:00:40.570]This location, the wheat was planted September 26th
[00:00:43.680]and actually looks really good considering
[00:00:45.840]some of the stresses we've had this growing season
[00:00:47.950]with the freeze in April and the dry weather.
[00:00:50.420]Things look really pretty good here.
[00:00:51.810]So we're gonna start off
[00:00:53.010]with one of our first varieties here.
[00:00:55.400]It's called AgriMAXX Cartwright.
[00:00:58.123]It is a new variety released in 2020
[00:01:00.890]from the company AgriMAXX,
[00:01:02.210]which is located in the eastern corn belt.
[00:01:04.240]It's one of two of their hard red winter wheat varieties.
[00:01:06.926]This actually was developed
[00:01:08.180]by the Kansas State Breeding Program
[00:01:09.950]and licensed to AgriMAXX.
[00:01:11.200]It's supposed to have a pretty good disease package.
[00:01:13.110]Again, it's the first time
[00:01:14.080]that we're seeing it here planted in the trials.
[00:01:16.015]We'll definitely learn more about it
[00:01:17.630]in terms of disease resistance
[00:01:19.680]and its yields this first year.
[00:01:21.250]The plots here at Lancaster County
[00:01:22.820]are not sprayed with the fungicide,
[00:01:24.560]which is important to have at some of our locations
[00:01:26.560]when we look at both susceptibility and resistance
[00:01:28.896]to some of our common diseases such as Fusarium head blight,
[00:01:32.700]leaf rust, stripe rust, and several other diseases.
