- [00:00:05.810]Now I'm going to discuss a project
- [00:00:08.610]where we have XtendFlex Soybean.
- [00:00:10.380]So what do we mean by XtendFlex Soybean.
- [00:00:12.440]So this Soybean variety which is known
- [00:00:14.930]as XtendFlex Soybean is not available
- [00:00:17.840]in the marketplace right now,
- [00:00:19.100]but it will be available in the near future.
- [00:00:21.430]So this Soybean is resistant
- [00:00:24.130]to three different post emergence herbicides
- [00:00:26.720]and that includes Roundup, Liberty type of herbicide
- [00:00:31.500]as well as Dicamba.
- [00:00:33.040]So you can choose which herbicide you want to apply.
- [00:00:36.180]And so now we have number of treatments here
- [00:00:38.550]to illustrate and to give you some information
- [00:00:42.360]about which type of herbicide programs you can select
- [00:00:45.180]and what is the crop safety of this new technology
- [00:00:48.000]that will be available in the market very soon.
- [00:00:53.250]First, this is untreated control plot means
- [00:00:55.970]we didn't apply any herbicide
- [00:00:58.260]that you can see we have common waterhemp
- [00:01:02.500]which is almost three feet tall,
- [00:01:05.400]and this is what happen when you don't apply
- [00:01:07.750]any herbicide in Soybean,
- [00:01:10.160]then weeds will take over
- [00:01:11.400]and you will have number of grass
- [00:01:13.430]as well as broadleaf weeds in this plot.
- [00:01:16.610]And if you compare with this treatment
- [00:01:19.510]where we applied XtendiMax
- [00:01:22.640]which is a Dicamba based herbicide
- [00:01:25.017]when you tank mixture with Warrant
- [00:01:27.810]and metrubizin was applied pre emergence
- [00:01:30.160]and then Dicamba and Glyphosate was tank mixed
- [00:01:34.340]with Warrant in a post emergence herbicide program
- [00:01:37.250]so we have at least three or four different site
- [00:01:40.970]of exon in this herbicide programs
- [00:01:42.950]and it has provided good control of waterhemp
- [00:01:46.804]and lambsquarters and velvet leaf.
- [00:01:48.260]Those are common weed species that we do have in this field.
- [00:01:52.430]In this plot, we have applied XtendiMax
- [00:01:54.740]in a tank mixture with Warrant Ultra
- [00:01:56.750]which is a combination of Warrant
- [00:01:59.300]with Flexstar type of herbicide
- [00:02:02.370]and post emergence application
- [00:02:04.170]was with Glyphosate and Liberty,
- [00:02:07.700]which is a good combination of Glyphosate
- [00:02:09.990]and Glucose in it based herbicide.
- [00:02:11.820]And again, you are seeing a relatively good weed control.
- [00:02:15.070]The post emergence herbicide was applied
- [00:02:16.890]just before three to four days.
- [00:02:18.440]So I'm seeing some symptoms here on Palmer amaranth,
- [00:02:24.110]for example, these are some symptoms
- [00:02:26.190]of combination of Glyphosate and Glucose in it.
- [00:02:30.930]This one is more common.
- [00:02:33.570]So after a few days,
- [00:02:34.620]I'm sure this plant will die
- [00:02:36.310]because they're showing symptoms
- [00:02:37.810]and it was applied in a tank mixture of Glyphosate
- [00:02:41.570]and Glucose in it
- [00:02:42.430]and again I want to remind you
- [00:02:44.510]like this Soybean is resistant to Dicamba, Liberty
- [00:02:48.820]as well as Roundup
- [00:02:51.090]and these are some symptoms of Dicamba it was applied.
- [00:02:57.570]The post emergence application of Dicamba
- [00:02:59.520]was made just before three to four days
- [00:03:02.270]and so these are the typical symptoms
- [00:03:04.270]of Dicamba on velvet leaf
- [00:03:07.160]and also on Palmer amaranth here
- [00:03:10.900]and after a few days this plant will die
- [00:03:13.020]because when we applied post emergence herbicides
- [00:03:15.770]that included Dicamba this weeds
- [00:03:18.480]were about five inch tall
- [00:03:20.220]that is something good recommended practices
- [00:03:24.740]for successful use of Dicamba based herbicides.
- [00:03:29.650]In this plot there was no any pre emergence herbicide
- [00:03:32.510]was applied and so only application was made
- [00:03:35.650]was only post emergence.
- [00:03:37.470]So we applied a combination of Roundup
- [00:03:40.470]and Liberty in a tank mixture
- [00:03:42.210]with Warrant maybe before about 10 days.
- [00:03:46.020]So you are seeing symptoms of weeds are dying.
- [00:03:49.340]For example,
- [00:03:57.451]this is common lambsquarters
- [00:03:58.400]which was almost about 12 inch tall is also dying,
- [00:04:04.250]which is showing good symptoms of Dicamba and Liberty.
- [00:04:10.130]But this is something we do not recommend
- [00:04:12.290]because during early season
- [00:04:14.710]the weeds were provided good competition with Soybean.
- [00:04:18.880]And so if you will compare this plot
- [00:04:21.200]with other plots where pre emergence herbicide was applied,
- [00:04:24.940]so you will see a clear height difference
- [00:04:28.380]because of the competition of Soybean
- [00:04:30.530]with weeds species so that's why we generally recommend
- [00:04:33.700]to start with a good pre emergence program
- [00:04:36.260]and don't rely only on post emergence herbicides
- [00:04:38.900]like Roundup or liberty or XtendiMax
- [00:04:42.340]or any Dicamba based herbicide for weed control,
- [00:04:45.400]even in this Soybean which is resistant
- [00:04:48.170]to three different herbicides.
- [00:04:51.070]In this plot Zidua PRO,
- [00:04:53.090]which is also relatively new premix herbicide
- [00:04:56.945]for pre emergence weed control in Soybean
- [00:04:58.307]was applied pre emergence
- [00:04:59.140]and then Liberty was applied in a tank mixture with Warrant
- [00:05:04.500]as a post emergence and we are seeing good weed control.
- [00:05:08.420]good foundation was started
- [00:05:09.930]by applying Zidua PRO pre emergence
- [00:05:12.400]and then a pull up application
- [00:05:13.960]of Liberty has provided good weed control.
- [00:05:17.910]So that is kind of a good strategy
- [00:05:20.220]for using weed control program in XtendFlex Soybean
- [00:05:24.380]is to start with a good pre emergence herbicide
- [00:05:27.230]that should have at least two to three herbicide
- [00:05:29.740]active ingredients that can provide
- [00:05:31.830]two to three different site of action for weed control
- [00:05:35.520]and then come back
- [00:05:36.630]with applying only one single post emergence application.
- [00:05:40.270]It could be either Liberty or it could be XtendiMax
- [00:05:43.620]particularly in this variety
- [00:05:44.630]because it is resistant to Dicamba, Glyphosate
- [00:05:48.410]and Glucose in it.
