- [00:00:14.210]The Early Learning Network
- [00:00:15.088]is exploring many factors
- [00:00:16.420]that may help children achieve
- [00:00:18.280]and maintain early learning success.
- [00:00:20.650]We know high quality pre-kindergarten
- [00:00:22.560]or pre-k programs often provide a boost
- [00:00:25.640]to children when they enter school,
- [00:00:27.292]but how can we make sure the benefits of pre-k last
- [00:00:30.558]through kindergarten and the early elementary grades?
- [00:00:33.840]Research shows that promoting sustained environments
- [00:00:36.513]is an important factor in children's long-term success.
- [00:00:41.300]Our teams have identified some best practices
- [00:00:43.440]to promote sustained environments,
- [00:00:45.640]both in the classroom and at the policy level.
- [00:00:49.640]In the classroom,
- [00:00:50.750]it's important to provide effective instruction
- [00:00:52.613]that meets the needs of all learners across the pre-k
- [00:00:56.180]and early elementary years.
- [00:00:58.090]For example, teachers can support children's interests
- [00:01:01.540]and autonomy by offering choices.
- [00:01:03.780]They can also observe children
- [00:01:04.957]and provide extra emotional and instructional support
- [00:01:07.945]to those who need it.
- [00:01:09.660]And schools can work
- [00:01:10.640]to make sure children have opportunities
- [00:01:12.660]to form close, trusting relationships
- [00:01:15.100]with their teachers year after year.
- [00:01:17.040]It's also important
- [00:01:18.070]to strengthen communication and collaboration
- [00:01:20.209]between parents and teachers each year
- [00:01:22.477]and through yearly transitions.
- [00:01:25.240]A strong partnership between teachers and parents
- [00:01:27.572]can improve student's social, behavioral,
- [00:01:30.147]and academic outcomes.
- [00:01:33.510]In terms of policymaking,
- [00:01:34.728]we can develop structures and reinforce practices
- [00:01:37.694]that strengthen coordinated
- [00:01:39.710]and consistent learning environments
- [00:01:41.267]in the classroom and at home.
- [00:01:43.590]Pre-kindergarten programs in schools
- [00:01:45.281]can actively worth together to share information
- [00:01:48.257]and support parents as their children transition
- [00:01:50.830]across the early grades.
- [00:01:52.550]Parents can also provide consistently enriching
- [00:01:55.080]learning opportunities for children at home.
- [00:01:57.370]Consider these evidence-based practices
- [00:01:59.098]to promote sustained environments
- [00:02:00.894]and support children's learning
- [00:02:02.900]and development well beyond pre-k.
