Description
Preparing and making fruit kabobs is a simple way to engage children in eating healthy! Before preparing the ingredients, ask children about their favorite fruits that they want to add to their kabobs. By getting their input, they are more likely to participate in creating the kabobs, as well as eating them!

- [00:00:10.580]Hi, everyone.
- [00:00:11.413]It's a beautiful day today.
- [00:00:12.610]Today, I'm going to be showing you
- [00:00:14.370]how I make some fruit kabobs,
- [00:00:16.480]because fruit is one of my favorite things to eat
- [00:00:18.600]and of course, with it being spring
- [00:00:20.750]and turning into summer, we have a lot of fresh fruit
- [00:00:23.980]available for us to buy at the grocery store
- [00:00:26.550]or to grow in our gardens.
- [00:00:28.550]So, here today, I'm going to be showing you
- [00:00:30.130]how I make that.
- [00:00:32.320]So, to start you'll need
- [00:00:33.910]some of your child's favorite fruits.
- [00:00:36.580]Some that are easy
- [00:00:37.413]to poke through with the skewer, of course.
- [00:00:39.260]And then, make sure that you wash your fruit too
- [00:00:41.570]so that it's ready to go.
- [00:00:42.780]And then I also have my skewers here.
- [00:00:44.890]So, I only have a couple,
- [00:00:46.240]but these are here to help us poke the fruit through.
- [00:00:50.190]So, now that I have all of my fruit ready,
- [00:00:52.450]I'm gonna lay it out on my cutting board
- [00:00:54.350]so that I know what order I want them to be in.
- [00:00:56.630]So, I think I'm gonna make a pattern for mine.
- [00:00:59.300]So, I think I'm gonna do grape,
- [00:01:04.490]strawberry,
- [00:01:07.371]mango.
- [00:01:10.570]Let's see, grape comes next.
- [00:01:14.180]Then strawberry.
- [00:01:17.270]Then mango.
- [00:01:19.280]I'm just gonna start with six
- [00:01:20.440]to see if those fit on my skewer.
- [00:01:23.640]Here's my skewer.
- [00:01:25.050]So, I was actually able to add three more fruits
- [00:01:27.860]to my kabob to make it a little bit longer.
- [00:01:30.210]Can't wait to try this.
- [00:01:33.020]When I was pushing my fruit through my skewers,
- [00:01:34.880]I noticed that the grape was actually
- [00:01:36.790]really hard to push through it.
- [00:01:38.500]It has a really tough skin on it.
- [00:01:40.701]And the strawberry and the mango,
- [00:01:42.820]they were really, really soft.
- [00:01:44.230]So, it was really easy to push them through.
- [00:01:47.000]When I was cutting my fruit
- [00:01:48.130]and also stringing it through my kabob,
- [00:01:49.560]I was really thinking hard about how these fruits
- [00:01:52.330]are really important for my body.
- [00:01:54.110]So, they really help me stay healthy.
- [00:01:56.990]They may help me grow still.
- [00:01:59.360]There's all kinds of really good things
- [00:02:00.770]that fruit allow us to do.
- [00:02:03.100]Can you think of any other ways
- [00:02:04.390]that fruit is good for your body?
- [00:02:06.610]Once the skewers are made,
- [00:02:08.630]you can either eat them fresh right there
- [00:02:10.660]or something that you can do, too,
- [00:02:11.860]is to freeze them so you have kind of like a fruit popsicle.
- [00:02:16.240]Have fun making your fruit kabobs.
- [00:02:18.200]Have a beautiful day!
