- [00:00:11.320]Hi, everyone, hope you're having a beautiful day today.
- [00:00:14.000]Today I'm gonna be showing you two different activities
- [00:00:16.420]that you can go with chalk.
- [00:00:17.640]So the first one is chalk painting,
- [00:00:19.630]and the second one is letter tracing.
- [00:00:22.970]For this activity, you'll need some cups filled with water,
- [00:00:26.910]some chalk, these are some of my favorite colors,
- [00:00:28.890]these bright colors right here,
- [00:00:30.330]and also some types of kind of paintbrushes.
- [00:00:32.650]So I have a regular one and a foam one.
- [00:00:36.220]I also have two different sizes of paintbrushes.
- [00:00:39.237](bird chirping)
- [00:00:40.645](upbeat music)
- [00:00:45.880]I'm gonna be showing you how to do chalk painting.
- [00:00:47.940]So the materials that you'll need
- [00:00:49.940]are just a paintbrush and some water.
- [00:00:52.930]So I have my water ready, and I also drew this flower here
- [00:00:56.150]I'm gonna fill in using the water.
- [00:00:58.220]So first I have my bigger foam paintbrush
- [00:01:00.593]that I'm gonna dip into it.
- [00:01:03.210]And then I'm just gonna take it over my flower
- [00:01:05.490]and color in the petals with the water.
- [00:01:09.440]Cool. Look I colored one in.
- [00:01:14.327]Now I color the second one in.
- [00:01:22.240]Ooh, I got some extra pink there.
- [00:01:23.510]It might be kind of hard to see through the video.
- [00:01:26.750]Okay. Look at my water's kind of turning that pink color.
- [00:01:39.150]Hope I can get it colored before it all dries.
- [00:01:47.630]One more petal.
- [00:01:51.880](gasps) Look! My flower's all colored in with the water.
- [00:01:58.120]You know what would be really cool
- [00:01:59.660]is that if you just took your paintbrush,
- [00:02:03.460]dunked it in the water and then just drew something
- [00:02:06.450]random with it.
- [00:02:08.878](sighs) Know it's kind of hard to see.
- [00:02:11.220]I'm just drawing a pattern here.
- [00:02:14.490]What if you drew maybe like a smiley face?
- [00:02:18.110]Two eyes, that big smile.
- [00:02:21.755](sighs) I can't wait to see what you create.
- [00:02:26.109](upbeat music)
- [00:02:31.840]So I'm gonna use one of my paintbrushes.
- [00:02:34.270]I'm gonna start with this one first.
- [00:02:36.020]It's a little bit wider,
- [00:02:37.480]and then I'm gonna dip it into the water
- [00:02:39.110]to get it all nice and wet.
- [00:02:40.950]Do you see how I did that?
- [00:02:42.780]Now that I know that it's wet,
- [00:02:44.480]I'm gonna go over to some of the letters that I drew.
- [00:02:46.640]See, I wrote some the alphabet
- [00:02:49.460]and my name, and then I also drew
- [00:02:52.040]some flowers over here too.
- [00:02:54.520]But now that my paintbrush is all wet,
- [00:02:57.718]gonna dip it in one more time.
- [00:02:59.050]Going to come to my letters,
- [00:03:01.683]and I'm gonna trace it to see what happens.
- [00:03:04.776]Might need a little bit more.
- [00:03:09.230]Wow, look at that.
- [00:03:11.720]What do you notice that's happening?
- [00:03:16.260]My chalk got a little bit thinner,
- [00:03:18.510]but you know what's cool is that all around my letter
- [00:03:21.530]I can see where the water was,
- [00:03:23.870]and that was really, really cool.
- [00:03:28.580]All right, I'm gonna do it for my other letters now.
- [00:03:30.670]Let's do A. Ready?
- [00:03:34.717](sighs) Look at this!
- [00:03:37.920]You're practicing writing your letters.
- [00:03:42.220]You could try this with other words, random letters.
- [00:03:48.090]Maybe you can try even your name.
- [00:03:50.030]I'll do that next.
- [00:03:52.550]I like to keep getting my brush wet,
- [00:03:54.210]so that I can really see where the water was.
- [00:03:57.654]Now I'm gonna move down to my name.
- [00:04:00.730]Here we go, I'm gonna practice writing my name next.
- [00:04:04.860]Okay, here's M. (gasps) Wow!
- [00:04:09.870]Up, down. (gasps) Look at my paintbrush
- [00:04:13.070]is even changing colors too.
- [00:04:16.200]Gotta rinse it off a little bit, get more water on it.
- [00:04:19.533]Now let's do E. (gasps) Straight line
- [00:04:22.340]and loop-d-loop.
- [00:04:24.830]G. All right, G has the circle
- [00:04:29.480]and a hook.
- [00:04:32.290]Cool! A is next.
- [00:04:35.910]I did a lower case A, do you see it?
- [00:04:39.870]Another circle and then a kickstand.
- [00:04:44.910]And that's the last letter in my name.
- [00:04:47.630]Make a nice straight line and one hump.
- [00:04:53.610]Cool, look at that!
- [00:04:55.840]I must have gotten water on some of these other spots.
- [00:04:58.040]But look at that.
- [00:04:59.330]I worked so hard to trace all of those letters.
- [00:05:05.150]Letter tracing can also be adapted for younger children too,
- [00:05:07.890]so you can use this to maybe trace different shapes
- [00:05:10.830]or different lines, you know, squiggly lines,
- [00:05:12.950]straight lines, whatever they would like.
- [00:05:16.080]This is just a really good adaptation for them too.
- [00:05:18.910]Of course, if you have older children
- [00:05:20.190]they can practice writing different names, words.
- [00:05:24.450]Maybe they'd like to practice writing in cursive.
- [00:05:27.460]I hope you just have fun with it.
- [00:05:30.380]I hope that you have a beautiful day
- [00:05:31.970]and have fun creating with chalk and water outside.
- [00:05:35.050]Have so much fun.
- [00:05:37.532](upbeat music)
