- [00:00:03.390]Hello parents,
- [00:00:04.890]my name is Jim Benes and I'm the college Global Exchange Coordinator.
- [00:00:09.660]Is your child excited about international travel or global experiences and the
- [00:00:14.840]College of Education and Human Sciences is a great place for them to be.
- [00:00:19.160]We offer a lot of interesting experiences that get them exposed to global
- [00:00:23.540]communities and international themes.
- [00:00:26.680]We also have an international studies minor.
- [00:00:28.910]I'm going to give a crazy background here. So get ready.
- [00:00:32.650]International studies minor, it's a minor that uh,
- [00:00:36.280]incorporates global coursework with international studies and then international
- [00:00:40.750]experience, uh, together, uh, that they can tack on to their major.
- [00:00:46.130]It'll help them become more distinguished amongst their peers when it comes time
- [00:00:50.670]to apply for that ever illustrious job or career post-graduation and also works
- [00:00:57.660]as a nice way to set a goal for them to study international here to take courses
- [00:01:01.680]that are internationally relevant.
- [00:01:04.920]And if you're anything like I was or uh,
- [00:01:07.790]if you think along the same way I do or like a lot of students,
- [00:01:10.290]do you think about money as soon as you think about international travel. Uh,
- [00:01:14.180]so I just want to let you know that the College of Education and
- [00:01:16.700]Human Sciences is a great place for your student to be, uh,
- [00:01:20.210]because we offer lots of financial incentives.
- [00:01:22.100]So the incentives you see up here, let's see up here, there we go.
- [00:01:27.240]Up here are available to all students at the university,
- [00:01:31.040]but then down here are the ones that are available to just the students in the
- [00:01:35.740]College of Education and Human Sciences.
- [00:01:37.480]And so these are less competitive and more widely available. The ready,
- [00:01:40.880]set, go one. This one I'd like to point out to you,
- [00:01:42.920]it's a seminar that I teach every semester.
- [00:01:45.640]It's a preparedness seminar where we talk about what to pack,
- [00:01:48.250]what safety concerns they might have to going to the countries that they might
- [00:01:51.520]visit, what vaccines you might need, um, uh,
- [00:01:55.380]how to purchase plane tickets, how to navigate transportation.
- [00:01:58.940]So things like that. It's really a nice seminar that I teach. Uh,
- [00:02:01.990]and it's a wonderful way to get a thousand dollars assist, towards the Study
- [00:02:05.220]Abroad Program.
- [00:02:06.570]So we have lots of ways for that financial hurdle to be lowered.
- [00:02:10.970]I'm just going to go ahead, put my email up here real quick.
- [00:02:13.210]I'll put it up again. So, no worries. It's J Benes at UNL. EDU.
- [00:02:18.550]Um, I've had a lot of travel experience, whether it's, uh, uh, personal or work,
- [00:02:22.900]uh, and I also was in the military, so I have a lot experience there.
- [00:02:26.600]Just happy to talk to you or your students, uh, about international travel.
- [00:02:32.140]Now. I know, especially right now with the global pandemic going on,
- [00:02:34.930]safety is probably your number one concern.
- [00:02:37.270]You're probably thinking I'm crazy for talking to you about international travel,
- [00:02:40.820]but we are being cautiously optimistic about 2021.
- [00:02:44.730]And so these are the kinds of places that we're thinking about going and we're
- [00:02:47.760]putting in proposals to visit in 2021. Now, of course,
- [00:02:51.640]safety is our top priority.
- [00:02:54.440]When planning these experiences and were completely clear-eyed about
- [00:02:57.800]the world we live in now. And so at the drop of a hat,
- [00:03:01.130]we're happy to cancel these programs, uh, because of safety.
- [00:03:04.950]And so we keep our eye on the world stage.
- [00:03:08.660]We keep up to date with embassies in other countries.
- [00:03:12.080]We follow the travel restrictions at the State Department. Um,
- [00:03:15.580]and we certainly keep abreast of all the safety concerns there are with
- [00:03:18.550]international travel.
- [00:03:21.030]So your concerns for your student might be safety and cost.
- [00:03:24.860]And those are the two things that I know that I can reassure you in the College
- [00:03:28.430]of Education and Human Sciences are also our top concern.
- [00:03:32.490]So we have your students' best interests at heart,
- [00:03:34.790]and we're excited to integrate international and global perspectives,
- [00:03:38.480]into experience while they're here. One more time,
- [00:03:41.680]I'll put on my email with the crazy floating background where my hands
- [00:03:45.930]disappear and reappear. Um, but it's right here.
- [00:03:49.350]J Benes at UNL. EDU.
- [00:03:51.960]We'll be happy to answer your questions as well as your students questions.
- [00:03:55.730]Of course.
- [00:03:57.430]I'm excited that your student is here and I'm glad you're watching this video.
- [00:04:01.520]It's nice to e-meet you and I look forward to speaking with you,
- [00:04:05.680]whether it's over zoom call or through email. Thanks so much.
- [00:04:09.340]I wish you well, take care.
