- [00:00:00.269](groovy music)
- [00:00:12.450]Hi, it's a beautiful day,
- [00:00:13.740]and I want to show you my piano.
- [00:00:17.220]I take piano lessons with it,
- [00:00:19.291]and I really like doing it.
- [00:00:22.823](paper shuffling)
- [00:00:25.013]Ah!
- [00:00:26.304](clacking in background)
- [00:00:30.480](soft piano playing)
- [00:00:43.703]Play piano with my sister.
- [00:00:45.503]She's really loud at it.
- [00:00:47.914](random piano keys being pressed)
- [00:00:55.609](banging in background)
- [00:00:56.550]Daddy writes music
- [00:00:58.466]on this piano
- [00:01:00.130]and he is a composer
- [00:01:02.710]and he helped me learn how to play piano.
- [00:01:06.800]Next my daddy is going to show you
- [00:01:09.112]what the inside of the piano does.
- [00:01:11.700]I don't know it yet but I think it's something exciting.
- [00:01:15.131]Hi guys!
- [00:01:16.050]Molly asked me to show you,
- [00:01:17.405]how the inside of the piano works.
- [00:01:19.110]So, we're gonna open up this piano
- [00:01:20.690]and see what's inside.
- [00:01:22.350]But first, I have to open up the top lid like this,
- [00:01:25.744]and you can already see,
- [00:01:27.010]if you look down in there, see lots of
- [00:01:29.052](clearing throat)
- [00:01:30.100]wires and wooden pieces.
- [00:01:33.340]But we can get an even better look
- [00:01:34.540]at what's down here if I open these
- [00:01:36.890]little hooks or hinges inside.
- [00:01:39.851](hook unlatching)
- [00:01:40.684]Then I can actually pull this entire
- [00:01:42.442]top piece out.
- [00:01:45.539]If I did it right.
- [00:01:46.981](latch clicking)
- [00:01:48.020]There we go.
- [00:01:49.320]This whole front piece comes out and
- [00:01:52.029]take a look at that.
- [00:01:54.182](shoes scuffing on floor)
- [00:01:57.610]So these things are actually called hammers,
- [00:02:01.110]and when you press a key on the piano,
- [00:02:03.190]the hammer shoots out really fast
- [00:02:05.500]into these guys
- [00:02:06.551](note playing)
- [00:02:07.730]and that's how you play a note.
- [00:02:08.900]These are actually strings, the wires,
- [00:02:10.601]and they actually make the notes that you hear,
- [00:02:13.600]and you can,
- [00:02:14.521]you can create the pitches that the notes play,
- [00:02:17.949]just by touching these strings in here.
- [00:02:19.860]If I just kinda strum it like a guitar,
- [00:02:21.761](notes playing)
- [00:02:25.200]You can kinda tell it's tricky.
- [00:02:27.096](notes playing)
- [00:02:28.730]Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bah
- [00:02:32.090]So every time I play one of these notes,
- [00:02:33.530]the hammer shoots out and hits the string,
- [00:02:35.133](notes playing)
- [00:02:35.966]and because it rebounds against it,
- [00:02:37.360]that's what makes the- the note sustain,
- [00:02:39.311](long note playing)
- [00:02:40.250]and then as soon as I let go,
- [00:02:41.770](note ends abruptly)
- [00:02:42.603]the string stops vibrating.
- [00:02:43.670]I can touch the string like this,
- [00:02:45.260]and then it makes sort of like a short,
- [00:02:46.990]pizzicato kind of sound,
- [00:02:48.660](short thumping notes)
- [00:02:52.114]and if I play a whole bunch of notes at once,
- [00:02:53.840]you'll see all these hammers flying up into the strings.
- [00:02:56.341](plays whimsical melody)
- [00:03:11.518]That's how the inside of a piano works.
- [00:03:14.610]Thanks for watching this video
- [00:03:16.310]and I hope you have a beautiful rest of your day.
- [00:03:21.193](playing Mary Had a Little Lamb)
- [00:03:47.862](upbeat tempo playing)
