- [00:00:13.864]Hey, everyone.
- [00:00:15.565]It's Erin, and I am going to read one
- [00:00:18.290]of my favorite stories with you guys,
- [00:00:21.567]"Baby Monkey, Private Eye."
- [00:00:24.240]I took the cover off because we've read it so many times
- [00:00:27.560]in my classroom that it was really ripped and ruined.
- [00:00:31.160]So here's the title page, "Baby Monkey, Private Eye."
- [00:00:36.670]You're going to need a few things
- [00:00:38.049]if you want to tell this story with me.
- [00:00:41.380]The Goldenrod friends are familiar with this I bet.
- [00:00:44.440]So in this story, Baby Monkey is a private eye.
- [00:00:49.360]He's an investigator.
- [00:00:50.740]He tries to find out who's guilty of crimes,
- [00:00:54.070]who did bad things.
- [00:00:56.630]So he needs a magnifying glass.
- [00:01:00.300]So if you have one at home you can grab one,
- [00:01:02.870]or you can draw one and cut it out,
- [00:01:05.690]practice your fine motor skills.
- [00:01:08.020]He takes notes, so I have a sticky notepad and a marker,
- [00:01:13.780]so for him to take notes.
- [00:01:16.880]And he has to put on his pants,
- [00:01:20.430]which you can practice on your own pants, buttoning.
- [00:01:24.513]I have something here to button,
- [00:01:27.080]and I have a zipper here as well.
- [00:01:29.270]He always has trouble putting on his pants,
- [00:01:31.780]so he needs help with that.
- [00:01:34.150]And then he always has to eat a snack.
- [00:01:36.430]So I have some nuts and some berries here
- [00:01:39.430]that I'm going to eat when he eats his snack.
- [00:01:43.870]All right.
- [00:01:46.960]Let's read the chapters.
- [00:01:50.440]So this book is by Brian Selznick and David Serlin,
- [00:01:54.730]and the pictures are by Brian Selznick too.
- [00:01:57.140]He is an amazing artist.
- [00:01:58.960]He did the illustrations in this book with a pencil.
- [00:02:03.770]So, see Baby Monkey right there
- [00:02:05.200]with his big old magnifying glass?
- [00:02:08.480]Isn't that incredible that that's made out of pencil?
- [00:02:12.470]Are you ready?
- [00:02:13.690]Wait!
- [00:02:17.890]Who is Baby Monkey?
- [00:02:21.074]Oh, that's my favorite.
- [00:02:27.560]Check that illustration out.
- [00:02:29.640]The magnifying glass magnified his eyeball.
- [00:02:35.250]He is a baby.
- [00:02:40.300]He is a monkey.
- [00:02:44.610]He has a job.
- [00:02:50.500]Here's his office door.
- [00:02:52.160]Baby Monkey Private Eye.
- [00:02:58.760]So there's a table of contents that has all the chapters,
- [00:03:01.680]the key, the index, and the bibliography for this book.
- [00:03:04.620]It's a really cool book.
- [00:03:06.810]So here's Baby Monkey.
- [00:03:07.870]He's walking into this office to do a day of work.
- [00:03:13.040]Chapter one, The Case of the Missing Jewels.
- [00:03:19.260]So we always focus in on how Baby Monkey
- [00:03:22.410]is on the couch reading about the crimes
- [00:03:25.490]that he's going to solve, and then you also
- [00:03:27.820]can see a hand coming in right here.
- [00:03:32.690]Someone needs help.
- [00:03:35.747]"Baby Monkey, someone has stolen my jewels!"
- [00:03:41.940]Baby Monkey can help.
- [00:03:44.020]Okay, get all your things ready.
- [00:03:45.200]You have to help Baby Monkey.
- [00:03:47.920]Baby Monkey looks for clues.
- [00:03:49.710]Get your magnifying glass out.
- [00:03:55.640]Baby Monkey writes notes.
- [00:03:58.020]I'm writing on my notepad.
- [00:04:05.980]Baby Monkey eats a snack.
- [00:04:08.170]That's my favorite part.
- [00:04:10.290]I'm going to eat a cranberry this time.
- [00:04:12.510]This speech bubble says, "Mmm."
- [00:04:16.990]That snack was really good for him.
- [00:04:19.540]Baby Monkey puts on his pants.
- [00:04:21.700]Oh, he needs help, everybody.
- [00:04:25.340]Look at that.
- [00:04:27.610]He's like, "What do I do with these silly things?"
- [00:04:33.142]He's concentrating, see the tongue out of his mouth?
- [00:04:39.370]So I better help him zip his pants this time.
- [00:04:42.030]This one says, this speech bubble says, "Oh!"
- [00:04:44.444]with an exclamation point 'cause he's really struggling.
- [00:04:51.390]Okay, he's almost got it.
- [00:04:53.427]"Ahh," that speech bubble says.
- [00:04:55.620]He sounds relieved.
- [00:04:59.130]Okay, I got to zip his pants for him.
- [00:05:04.530]Next time I'll help him button.
- [00:05:07.286]Now Baby Monkey is ready.
- [00:05:10.810]Does he look ready to you?
- [00:05:15.670]All right, there he goes.
- [00:05:16.730]See his foot going out the door?
- [00:05:20.520]His office?
- [00:05:23.520]Aha!
- [00:05:25.670]His speech bubble says, "Aha!"
- [00:05:27.380]and he has his magnifying glass.
- [00:05:28.770]Do you notice what he's looking at?
- [00:05:30.990]It's some footprints.
- [00:05:33.370]Baby Monkey solves the case.
- [00:05:38.720]Oh, what does her face look like?
- [00:05:42.730]She looks happy.
- [00:05:46.764](gasps) Zebra!
- [00:05:53.000]Hooray for Baby Monkey!
- [00:05:56.000]She's singing. (sings)
- [00:05:58.300]She's an opera singer.
- [00:05:59.640]This newspaper says, "Zebra, guilty!"
- [00:06:03.650]That means he did the wrong thing, he stole the jewels.
- [00:06:07.370]I'm looking forward to reading more chapters with you.
- [00:06:10.530]Have a beautiful day.
