- [00:00:15.250]Hi, my name is Jenny, and I wanted to share
- [00:00:18.070]one of my favorite children's books by Donald Crews.
- [00:00:22.250]It's called "Ten Black Dots."
- [00:00:24.850]My favorite thing about this book
- [00:00:26.740]is that it's extremely interactive.
- [00:00:29.710]Invite your child to count the black dots.
- [00:00:34.200]And then, after you read the book, encourage them to go find
- [00:00:39.970]anything that could be a dot,
- [00:00:42.260]bottle caps or paper you could cut into round circles.
- [00:00:46.540]And you could do a really great activity
- [00:00:48.740]of asking them to make something,
- [00:00:52.430]and use the dots in the picture.
- [00:00:55.270]So I hope you like it, and have a beautiful day.

- [00:03:24.700]This is my favorite page.
- [00:03:28.037]"Eight dots can make the wheels of a train

- [00:04:21.129](child mumbling)
- [00:04:22.990]Our pennies, "or pennies
- [00:04:26.457]"in your piggy bank."
- [00:04:29.130]Look at that big piggy bank full of pennies!
- [00:04:33.230]Wow, there are so many pennies!
- [00:04:42.277]"10 dots
- [00:04:44.227]"make, can make balloons stuck in a tree."
- [00:04:51.350]Guess what we get to do next.
- [00:04:53.210]We get to,
- [00:04:55.903]we get to shake them free.
- [00:04:59.537]"Shake the branch and set them free."
- [00:05:05.540]So many dots.
- [00:05:08.947]"Count them.
- [00:05:10.057]"Are there really 10?

- [00:05:19.113]Ready?
- [00:05:20.527]"One,

- [00:05:26.807]"five" dots.
- [00:05:32.207]"Six."
- [00:05:34.635]Oh, I have to go out.
- [00:05:37.417]"Seven, eight,
- [00:05:39.757]"nine,
- [00:05:41.127]"and 10"
- [00:05:43.380]dots.
- [00:05:46.520]Here's your challenge.
- [00:05:47.980]Ready?
- [00:05:50.470]What can you make with 10 dots?
- [00:05:56.014]Ruby, can you tell them how we got our dots?
- [00:06:00.126]We,
- [00:06:03.060]got some
- [00:06:05.540]construction paper,
- [00:06:07.960]and we put the papers in a stack and cut them out.
- [00:06:14.190]Five, six, seven, eight, nine,
- [00:06:16.800]10, 11, 12,
- [00:06:18.637]13, 14, 15,
- [00:06:20.181]16, 17,
- [00:06:21.472]18, 19.
- [00:06:28.930]Two.
- [00:06:30.170]Two big ones.
- [00:06:33.167][Ruby] How about you try small ones?
- [00:06:35.106]I don't have any small ones.
- [00:06:40.710]Are they smaller or bigger?
- [00:06:42.820]Smaller.
- [00:06:44.452]One, two,
- [00:06:46.608]and three.
- [00:06:47.553]Hmm, now you got three today.
- [00:07:04.647]How many dots fit in our snake?
- [00:07:06.870]One, two, three, four,
- [00:07:09.250]five, six, seven, eight, nine.
- [00:07:12.033]Oh, nine!
- [00:07:13.800]How could we fit 10?
- [00:07:14.880]What would we have to do to fit 10, to make it 10?
- [00:07:18.530]Oh, maybe we could one there.
- [00:07:20.740]We could put one here.
- [00:07:22.760]So, you needed to add just one more
- [00:07:25.060]to make it be 10?
- [00:07:26.450]Mm-hmm.
- [00:07:27.740]Okay, count them, how many in all?
- [00:07:29.210]One, two, three, four, five,
- [00:07:32.414]six, seven, eight, nine, 10!
- [00:07:35.233]10!
- [00:07:37.479]"Ten Black
- [00:07:40.467]Dots"
- [00:07:41.630]by Donald Crews.
