Description
Introducing yoga to young children can be a wonderful way to increase physical activity, teach breathing practices, and teach children balance, strength and flexibility. There are promising benefits of children practicing yoga to reduce anxiety and stress (link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29397087) as well as other benefits for health and well-being (link: http://www.yoga4classrooms.com/supporting-research).
When combined with storytelling it can be a creative and fun way to move the body and practice being still. Take more yoga adventures with Cosmic Kids (link: https://www.cosmickids.com/) or Bari Koral (link: https://barikoral.com) who offers great ways to play yoga with children using music, movement and mindfulness. Have fun playing yoga with this Springtime Yoga Story from Cosmic Kids.

- [00:03:41.220]and show me the other color?
- [00:03:43.813]Orange!
- [00:03:44.816]Orange.
- [00:03:46.820]Good.
- [00:03:47.780]That's a beautiful butterfly.
- [00:03:51.230]She flutters off and we have to follow
- [00:03:53.880]her to get ready to go out.
- [00:03:59.140]She's fluttering away.
- [00:04:00.440]She's fluttering away with her wings.
- [00:04:02.360]Where is she going?
- [00:04:04.950]Where is the butterfly going?
- [00:04:06.431]Brr! We get ourselves,
- [00:04:09.090]because it's chilly when we go outside in the air
- [00:04:11.930]so we need to wrap up really warm
- [00:04:15.940]and hug our body so tight to keep it warm.
- [00:04:20.460]Now let's get our boots on to go outside.
- [00:04:24.307]Oh, stretch up high.
- [00:04:27.000]Stretch your knee up high.
- [00:04:29.100]Yes, one more time.
- [00:04:30.770]Stretch on that boot.
- [00:04:33.610]You're doing so well putting on that boot.
- [00:04:37.000]Now outside we're going to go on our bicycle.
- [00:04:41.270]Show me riding your bicycle.
- [00:04:44.377]Riding your bicycle.
- [00:04:45.462]Riding your bicycle.
- [00:04:46.670]Here we go down in the fields.
- [00:04:48.730]The sun is shining and the air is fresh
- [00:04:51.150]so we stop and we stand really strong
- [00:04:54.630]with our knees into the ground,
- [00:04:56.420]our feet into the ground and we take
- [00:04:58.440]a deep breath in
- [00:05:02.890]and let the breath out.
- [00:05:06.060]And a deep breath in again.
- [00:05:09.590]And a deep breath out.
- [00:05:14.150]And all of a sudden I see a Tweety Bird.
- [00:05:19.410]Can you show me the Tweety Bird?
- [00:05:24.529]Oh, Tweety Bird. Does the Tweety Bird make a sound?
- [00:05:27.924]Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet.
- [00:05:31.940]All of a sudden,
- [00:05:33.090]I see some clouds coming into the sky.
- [00:05:36.100]So we lay down and we look at the clouds.
- [00:05:41.310]What shapes of clouds do you see?
- [00:05:43.400]Take a deep breath in.
- [00:05:47.329]Ah, let that out.
- [00:05:49.050]Tell me about the cloud that you see.
- [00:05:51.950]I see upside down clouds
- [00:05:57.450]and I see straight clouds
- [00:06:01.800]and I see wavy clouds
- [00:06:05.500]and I see clouds that kind of look like hair.
- [00:06:12.990]All of a sudden, you see a dark cloud
- [00:06:15.460]and it's going to start raining
- [00:06:16.760]so you have to jump up
- [00:06:18.650]and get on your bicycle again.
- [00:06:21.570]You get on your bicycle.
- [00:06:22.500]You get on your bicycle.
- [00:06:24.140]Oh no!
- [00:06:25.250]Your bicycle tire broke.
- [00:06:27.730]Now you have to take a boat down the river.
- [00:06:30.660]So you get on your boat
- [00:06:32.780]and you have to get on your boat
- [00:06:34.510]and you have to try to get where you're going.
- [00:06:37.000]And you gotta pick your feet up
- [00:06:38.470]in your boat and you gotta work fast on the side.
- [00:06:42.590]Row, row on the side.
- [00:06:43.990]And then row on the other side.
- [00:06:45.820]Row, row, row, row, row.
- [00:06:47.580]Oh, you made it.
- [00:06:48.920]Hurry up, get out of the boat I hear thunder.
- [00:06:52.040]Clap, clap thunder.
- [00:06:53.460]Do you hear it?
- [00:06:54.293]Clap, above your head, clap, clap thunder.
- [00:06:58.310]Down low, down low I hear more clapping and thunder.
- [00:07:01.577]Get the rain bubbles
- [00:07:05.410]Catch the rain bubbles.
- [00:07:08.060]And now you hear lots of thunder.
- [00:07:11.070]Thunder with the rain, it's coming down.
- [00:07:16.330]Look at all the rain coming down.
- [00:07:20.320]Oh no!
- [00:07:21.679](laughing)
- [00:07:24.353]Rain bubbles.
- [00:07:25.570]And then all of a sudden you realize
- [00:07:27.300]it's coming down even more and more
- [00:07:28.570]so you need to hurry and get home
- [00:07:30.300]so rush, rush, rush home.
- [00:07:31.400]Rush, rush, rush, rush, rush, rush.
- [00:07:34.670]Keep running, keep running.
- [00:07:36.300]You're getting there, you're getting there.
- [00:07:37.640]Oh, you arrived at the door, so you open the door
- [00:07:42.560]and then you get inside and you take off your boots
- [00:07:47.630]on both legs and then you go to your bed
- [00:07:51.930]and you lay down
- [00:07:55.900]and you take in some deep breathes.
- [00:07:58.773](deep breathing)
- [00:08:06.983]Was that a fun springtime adventure?
