- [00:00:00.512](upbeat music)
- [00:00:01.750]Greg Sharpe back at our Husker Sports Network studios,
- [00:00:03.790]halftime of the Huskers matchup
- [00:00:05.120]against the Indiana Hoosiers.
- [00:00:06.500]And joined by Chancellor Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:08.460]We're wrapping up the month of February
- [00:00:10.100]with a final regular-season women's game.
- [00:00:12.120]Last week, a special Senior Day
- [00:00:13.750]for the final game in The Vault
- [00:00:14.900]for a couple of Huskers.
- [00:00:15.820]And these transitions happen every year,
- [00:00:17.750]but they never lessen in the significance.
- [00:00:20.640]'Cause it's quite an accomplishment
- [00:00:21.720]to get to a senior year.
- [00:00:23.170]It sure is, you know, as fans we follow our teams
- [00:00:26.050]and look forward to that next game
- [00:00:27.560]and the post-season, and everything associated with that.
- [00:00:29.990]But we also know it's kinda bittersweet.
- [00:00:31.710]'Cause we say goodbye to students
- [00:00:33.330]who have committed four years or more
- [00:00:35.120]of their life to the program.
- [00:00:37.440]Like this year, with Hannah and Nicea.
- [00:00:39.720]And our women's program, they work so hard,
- [00:00:42.670]they commit so much of themselves
- [00:00:44.140]to their sport and to their studies.
- [00:00:46.490]You know, these are full-time students
- [00:00:48.480]who are keeping a schedule that many of us
- [00:00:50.990]would find unbelievable in being able to compete.
- [00:00:54.580]And that Senior Day comes fast for them.
- [00:00:56.890]So looking forward to their successful graduation,
- [00:01:00.980]and thank them for the great careers
- [00:01:02.880]they've had here at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:01:05.340]College is a major transition.
- [00:01:07.380]The students are taking their studies to the next level,
- [00:01:09.360]working toward entering into their careers.
- [00:01:11.700]I would think the University draws a lot of interest
- [00:01:14.060]from employers for its graduates, I would guess.
- [00:01:17.040]Absolutely, you know, we're very pleased
- [00:01:19.780]with the placement of our graduates
- [00:01:21.390]across all of our colleges that go into the workforce.
- [00:01:24.390]It's why they're here, for their education.
- [00:01:28.330]They recognize, the employers recognize
- [00:01:31.530]the kind of Big Ten education students get
- [00:01:34.650]at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:01:36.120]And they know that our students are gonna work hard.
- [00:01:38.020]And that they know how to collaborate.
- [00:01:40.620]Our career services program at the University
- [00:01:44.947]holds spring career fairs, like they did
- [00:01:47.120]earlier this month.
- [00:01:48.730]These are a big deal, more than 300 different employers
- [00:01:52.010]part of that, more than 3,000 students
- [00:01:54.780]involved in those spring career fairs.
- [00:01:56.930]And to give you an idea
- [00:01:58.470]about how valuable those fairs are,
- [00:02:00.370]they're not just for jobs getting done with school.
- [00:02:03.260]They also are for internships,
- [00:02:04.820]and for opportunities, students who are re-enrolling
- [00:02:07.610]at the University are going to have
- [00:02:09.580]during their career.
- [00:02:10.413]Example of that, Mary Ankenbauer,
- [00:02:12.850]who is a mechanical engineering major.
- [00:02:14.870]She comes from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
- [00:02:17.170]Currently a sophomore in the College of Engineering.
- [00:02:19.780]She's already landed two internships.
- [00:02:21.640]We had some highlighted work on her
- [00:02:23.330]that we saw earlier this month about her success there,
- [00:02:27.460]thanks to attending these career fairs, if you will.
- [00:02:31.503]So she attended a University STEM career fair,
- [00:02:34.000]fall of her first year.
- [00:02:35.810]She met potential employers there.
- [00:02:37.810]Her initiative paid off
- [00:02:39.130]with one of the engineering firms that she spoke to,
- [00:02:42.315]later offering her a summer internship in Columbus.
- [00:02:45.000]So she did that, followed that again,
- [00:02:46.850]had good success again.
- [00:02:48.100]So very good success of our students,
- [00:02:50.890]both in terms of placement in jobs
- [00:02:53.600]as they leave and graduate the University,
- [00:02:55.730]and in opportunities for internships
- [00:02:57.870]while they're studying with us.
- [00:02:59.780]More great news this month out of the Innovation Campus,
- [00:03:02.590]where a new partner was announced.
- [00:03:04.880]What can you inform our audience about that?
- [00:03:07.270]Well, at NIC, as we call it,
- [00:03:09.210]Nebraska Innovation Campus, we now have over 45 partners
- [00:03:13.120]that are part of that campus.
- [00:03:15.140]And earlier this month, we added another one
- [00:03:17.940]into what we call the Rise Building,
- [00:03:20.030]the newest building to be added to the campus last year,
- [00:03:24.130]When Celerion joined us as a partner.
- [00:03:27.570]Celerion's a company here in Lincoln.
- [00:03:30.360]They've been conducting clinical research studies
- [00:03:32.640]for more than 50 years in the pharmaceutical
- [00:03:35.580]and the biotech sector.
- [00:03:38.300]They're locating at Nebraska Innovation Campus,
- [00:03:40.920]and increasing their commitment
- [00:03:42.700]to innovation and to excellence in clinical research.
- [00:03:46.230]So excited about them being included
- [00:03:48.430]in that forefront of the biotechnology hub in Nebraska.
- [00:03:52.140]Great long-term fit for Nebraska Innovation Campus,
- [00:03:55.730]where their clinical research expertise
- [00:03:57.850]will be invaluable.
- [00:03:58.940]And partnered up with things like
- [00:04:00.900]our Nebraska Food for Health Center
- [00:04:02.970]and our Biotech Connector there
- [00:04:06.470]as part of Innovation Campus.
- [00:04:08.460]So pleased about that, great new partner.
- [00:04:11.150]And Innovation Campus continues to grow,
- [00:04:13.240]and great to see that success.
- [00:04:14.860]What a great success story NIC is on this campus.
- [00:04:18.090]Always great to see ya.
- [00:04:19.170]The end of the regular season, I can't hardly believe it.
- [00:04:21.130]Hard to imagine.
- [00:04:22.740]You know, March right around the corner,
- [00:04:24.780]it's hard to believe, you know.
- [00:04:26.890]Thankfully, this winter's been a little less severe
- [00:04:29.790]than last winter.
- [00:04:31.270]But nonetheless, spring's right around the corner.
- [00:04:33.990]Ronnie Green with us here at half.
- [00:04:35.340]We've got more halftime from Bloomington,
- [00:04:37.240]coming up next.
- [00:04:38.390]From Learfield IMG College,
- [00:04:41.020]this is Big Red Basketball.
