- [00:00:11.210]High-quality pre-K experiences matter a lot
- [00:00:13.800]for young children and especially children
- [00:00:15.580]who are growing up in disadvantaged or diverse backgrounds.
- [00:00:18.920]So the pre-K boost concept demonstrates
- [00:00:21.690]how children actually do benefit quite a bit
- [00:00:24.110]from preschool experiences.
- [00:00:26.170]We know that in a high-quality preschool environment,
- [00:00:29.040]young children develop very advanced cognitive language,
- [00:00:32.930]social-emotional literacy and language skills.
- [00:00:35.900]When you offer a child a learning opportunity
- [00:00:39.000]that they haven't otherwise been exposed to,
- [00:00:41.540]and it's kind of a systematic learning opportunity
- [00:00:44.950]like going to school or like going to preschool,
- [00:00:48.060]that opportunity boosts their learning
- [00:00:51.710]in the particular areas that setting may be focusing on.
- [00:00:55.130]When children have access to preschool,
- [00:00:59.800]especially high-quality preschool,
- [00:01:01.500]they're entering kindergarten better ready
- [00:01:03.770]to learn and better prepare to succeed.
- [00:01:05.930]And this helps them continue on a positive trajectory
- [00:01:09.720]throughout their schooling career.
- [00:01:11.530]We know that when children have access
- [00:01:13.270]to a high-quality pre-K program,
- [00:01:15.230]it can have positive benefits,
- [00:01:17.260]particularly for low income students
- [00:01:19.520]and other students who may be disadvantaged.
- [00:01:21.660]Learning about what a high-quality program looks like
- [00:01:24.120]can actually help reduce key disparities
- [00:01:27.010]that we see in our educational system
- [00:01:28.910]prior to the start of formal elementary school.
- [00:01:32.200]One thing that the network is starting to understand
- [00:01:35.540]is the need for early childhood educators
- [00:01:38.520]to really be able to provide learning opportunities
- [00:01:42.740]for students that hit across a number of skill areas,
- [00:01:46.710]a number of interests that range
- [00:01:49.030]from their social-emotional skills
- [00:01:50.570]through their language skills
- [00:01:51.890]through their early academic skills.
- [00:01:54.070]It's really targeting a number of different areas
- [00:01:56.900]for children that's going to promote their growth.
