[00:00:03.050]When you're a freshman, you start out,
[00:00:04.900]and you don't really know who you are,
[00:00:07.240]you're still stuck in that high school mindset
[00:00:09.310]of you trying to fit in,
[00:00:10.900]and I just wanna be like everyone else,
[00:00:12.410]but with what you learn through programs
[00:00:16.220]like the Builder's Program, or Strengths Coaching,
[00:00:18.290]is you learn why you wanna stand out,
[00:00:20.870]and what makes you stand out,
[00:00:22.240]and when you can hone in on those strengths.
[00:00:24.700]You can make a way bigger impact
[00:00:27.320]than if you were trying to suppress your uniqueness
[00:00:30.570]and be like everyone else,
[00:00:31.520]so I think it can make such a big difference in the world.
[00:00:35.680]We are going to see such a difference
[00:00:39.370]in how people treat others,
[00:00:40.770]and how people are leading others, how families function,
[00:00:44.100]just everything, and so getting involved
[00:00:46.720]in the institute for me is far more
[00:00:48.360]than just developing your own leadership skills.
[00:00:51.940]At the Clifton Strengths Institute,
[00:00:53.410]we are dedicated to the identification
[00:00:55.410]and development of future leaders, business builders,
[00:00:58.760]and gifted entrepreneurs.
[00:01:00.400]Don Clifton once said that the biggest contribution
[00:01:02.700]we can make to human nature
[00:01:04.350]is in identifying and maximizing human potential.
[00:01:07.670]We're dedicated to advancing that mission
[00:01:09.450]at the Clifton Institute every day.
[00:01:12.180]Students are assigned to a student strengths coach,
[00:01:14.730]and these coaches work one on one with these students
[00:01:16.909]to help them understand how they can apply their strengths
[00:01:20.170]to build a meaningful college experience.
[00:01:23.370]One of the things my strengths coach did
[00:01:25.250]that was incredibly phenomenal to me
[00:01:27.490]was her ability to connect with me
[00:01:29.980]and actually form a relationship.
[00:01:32.480]That genuine connection that we had
[00:01:35.310]made me wanna be engaged and participate more
[00:01:38.230]in BSAD 111 and also made me
[00:01:40.030]want to become a strengths coach,
[00:01:42.000]and I think that this program, this institute
[00:01:44.520]is really focused on empowering people
[00:01:47.880]with their strengths and the knowledge of their strengths
[00:01:51.483]to continue being leaders and developing the world further.
[00:01:57.490]Students in the Clifton Builder's Program
[00:01:59.140]have the natural talent to create a positive impact
[00:02:01.670]on their teams, in the businesses,
[00:02:03.560]and in their communities.
[00:02:04.990]We don't just identify builder strengths,
[00:02:06.900]we stretch them.
[00:02:08.040]We disrupt and transform the learning environment
[00:02:10.330]because we know that these students
[00:02:11.680]will be equipped then to do the same
[00:02:13.480]in their future careers.
[00:02:16.230]You're actually going out in a business
[00:02:18.470]and explaining to them what you've learned
[00:02:21.410]and also trying to help them,
[00:02:22.800]so when you go to an employer in the future,
[00:02:24.700]you're able to draw on this experience,
[00:02:26.250]and say hey, this is what we actually did,
[00:02:28.300]and also it's a great way to make connections
[00:02:30.500]because they see a portfolio of what you actually can do,
[00:02:33.190]so a combination of things that turns into
[00:02:35.787]what you really make out of it,
[00:02:37.590]and just funneling your talents and strengths.
[00:02:41.950]It is by far the most valuable experience I've gotten
[00:02:44.880]out of the College of Business here at UNL,
[00:02:47.170]and it has been so valuable to me.
[00:02:49.867]I can't wait to see how it helps me in the future, too.
