- [00:00:13.310]I like saying that you were just too
- [00:00:15.170]perfect so someone had to throw something
- [00:00:17.330]at you to knock you down.
- [00:00:22.760]Realistically I knew that life
- [00:00:25.740]wouldn't be fair without some challenges.
- [00:00:28.140]And so it's really taught me just be
- [00:00:31.560]more humble and very
- [00:00:32.899]appreciative of what
- [00:00:33.899]have. Finding the positives in every
- [00:00:35.829]moment. The fear is not being able
- [00:00:38.050]to do what I love. I wont succeed in
- [00:00:41.960]what I do. Politics wont be around for me
- [00:00:44.720]or that I wont be able
- [00:00:46.599]to be an ambassador
- [00:00:48.239]to the UN 1 day
- [00:00:49.699]Or that people just misjudge
- [00:00:51.189]me because of
- [00:00:52.200]Crohn's disease I think is
- [00:00:53.680]probably one of
- [00:00:54.610]my biggest
- [00:00:55.600]fears. Also heights, heights terrify
- [00:00:57.339]the living crap out of me.
- [00:01:09.460]couldn't get the colonoscopy
- [00:01:11.100]scope through them
- [00:01:12.100]and there was this 4x4
- [00:01:15.440]abscess pushing it
- [00:01:16.440]Crohn's disease is
- [00:01:17.395]autoimmune disorder
- [00:01:18.350]your immune system
- [00:01:19.350]attacks your intestinal track.
- [00:01:21.590]Iell I started to really drop weight and
- [00:01:24.010]they were kind of getting concerned.
- [00:01:27.280]They're like,
- [00:01:28.280]does she have an eating disorder? She's
- [00:01:28.280]eating food and not throwing up afterwards
- [00:01:31.490]What's happening and it just got
- [00:01:34.319]to the point where I
- [00:01:36.240]would curl up in a ball
- [00:01:37.460]on the floor
- [00:01:38.410]in so much pain. I would just cry.
- [00:01:47.300]There are days where
- [00:01:49.560]I genuinely don't
- [00:01:50.560]want to wake up
- [00:01:51.500]I know I'm not going to
- [00:01:52.980]be able to do anything.
- [00:01:55.040]I already out of energy for the day.
- [00:01:57.220]I can usually tell the night before that
- [00:01:59.130]so happen I'll try to email my professors
- [00:02:01.430]preemptively like, hey like I
- [00:02:03.580]sorry I have a disability.
- [00:02:04.890]A really bad flair up
- [00:02:06.420]but I'm not going to be able to be
- [00:02:08.409]there. And I'll usually try to work ahead
- [00:02:10.704]if I can. On the days where I'm not
- [00:02:12.720]feeling great, I know I might
- [00:02:15.670]be able to swing 1 or 2 classes
- [00:02:17.410]know I get up, throw like some like
- [00:02:19.766]leggings and a loose t-shirt.
- [00:02:21.970]Nothing that's going
- [00:02:22.970]and make sure I I have a ponytail on hand
- [00:02:24.920]and then because you never know like
- [00:02:26.690]when something's happened then really
- [00:02:29.000]just try hard to like eat
- [00:02:31.070]applesauce and
- [00:02:32.480]saltines
- [00:02:33.700]all day. Keep something
- [00:02:35.254]in my stomach and drinking lots of
- [00:02:36.970]water and hope it goes away.
- [00:02:39.599]really bad pain you know
- [00:02:43.780]making sure kind of slowing down the
- [00:02:46.320]intestinal tract in case something gets
- [00:02:48.640]really bad. Being a student I can't take a
- [00:02:51.819]super big or slow because I just can't
- [00:02:53.970]handle it I have to learn how you kind
- [00:02:56.280]of balance you know having a job,
- [00:02:58.579]having school work.
- [00:02:59.579]happens will work and just be happy
- [00:03:01.980]I was an RA and it was even
- [00:03:03.340]worse cause you know
- [00:03:04.466]there's sometimes our residents need to
- [00:03:06.519]talk to you like something's
- [00:03:07.972]happened in
- [00:03:08.756]their life or something's
- [00:03:10.157]going on they need
- [00:03:11.409]some other person to process through.
- [00:03:13.190]I could be having my
- [00:03:14.340]worst week where I'm so mentally
- [00:03:16.189]be drained but I still have that way to
- [00:03:18.139]be able to be there for the
- [00:03:19.699]residents. So I think Crohn's
- [00:03:21.500]probably taught me to be resilient and
- [00:03:25.070]that you know life can really throw you
- [00:03:27.709]a curve ball but at the end of the
- [00:03:30.379]day or you can still make it
- [00:03:32.199]through. I have to be really positive.
- [00:03:35.439]Positivity is now my main value
- [00:03:37.969]in life because I
- [00:03:39.119]just genuinely think like Crohn's happened
- [00:03:41.465]to me for a reason.
