- [00:00:00.287](upbeat music)
- [00:00:06.160]Hi, it's me, Jessa again.
- [00:00:08.550]So I'll be showing you around some of the places
- [00:00:10.740]on campus where you might be able to
- [00:00:12.460]shadow classes or if you come here, take classes.
- [00:00:15.190]I am currently in Louise Pound Hall
- [00:00:18.520]kind of a humanities hot spot, so there's
- [00:00:20.300]a whole bunch of different departments that live here.
- [00:00:23.240]Things like women's and gender studies
- [00:00:24.890]and ethnic studies and classics and religious studies
- [00:00:27.260]and Judaic studies and philosophy
- [00:00:29.620]and probably some more that I'm forgetting.
- [00:00:31.760]This building behind me is Andrews Hall.
- [00:00:34.510]First and basement floors are where we have classes
- [00:00:37.550]and then second and third floors are offices.
- [00:00:39.930]This here is the Dudley Bailey Library.
- [00:00:41.590]This is in Andrews Hall which is the English building.
- [00:00:44.880]It's just a little cozy little reading nook thing.
- [00:00:47.530]We've got a little library if I turn around.
- [00:00:50.050]Back here we've got a whole bunch of
- [00:00:51.560]books published by English professors.
- [00:00:53.350]'Cause a lot of programs will actually
- [00:00:56.140]do little events up here.
- [00:00:57.560]I am on my way to class right now
- [00:00:59.530]and I figured I'd take this chance to
- [00:01:01.270]tell you guys about some of my favorite parts
- [00:01:02.750]of being a humanities student here at Nebraska.
- [00:01:05.450]We get to take some really, really cool classes.
- [00:01:08.190]My first semester here I took a class on King Arthur.
- [00:01:11.050]That was actually the class that helped me declare
- [00:01:12.890]my Medieval and Renaissance Studies major.
- [00:01:14.950]I'm on my way right now to a French class
- [00:01:18.120]on French fairytales, so it's taught entirely in French
- [00:01:20.960]and we're reading all kinds of really, really cool tales.
- [00:01:24.100]So like today for class we read Sleeping Beauty
- [00:01:26.800]except this part has ogres in the second half
- [00:01:29.140]which gets really fun.
- [00:01:30.660]Misbehaving Monarchs and Revolutions.
- [00:01:33.150]So it's basically all the very
- [00:01:34.640]scandal filled parts of British history.
- [00:01:36.420]There's a Russian fairytale class a friend of mine took.
- [00:01:38.570]It's one of my favorite parts of the
- [00:01:40.480]humanities program here is we have
- [00:01:42.240]so many really, really cool fields of study
- [00:01:45.500]and so many really interesting classes
- [00:01:47.290]and professors just get to talk about the things
- [00:01:49.280]that they really, really enjoy which is amazing to me.
- [00:01:54.437]I'm at the Archives and Special Collections
- [00:01:56.810]here at the university in the basement of Love Library.
- [00:01:59.130]It's like, super cool.
- [00:02:00.750]This is where we keep all kinds of
- [00:02:02.180]really old books and documents and photos.
- [00:02:05.310]That students and researchers can come look at and see.
- [00:02:08.530]They have graciously agreed to pull
- [00:02:10.360]one of my favorite books for me.
- [00:02:12.380]This is a copy of The Canterbury Tales
- [00:02:15.210]by Geoffrey Chaucer from 1534.
- [00:02:19.360]That's one of the really cool things about the archives
- [00:02:21.300]is these books don't circulate but students
- [00:02:24.500]and researchers are able to come and look at them.
- [00:02:26.690]There's also things like a Shakespeare First Folio
- [00:02:28.910]which is actually a huge deal to have a copy of
- [00:02:31.570]and just all kinds of really cool things
- [00:02:33.500]so when you're a student here come check it out.
- [00:02:36.450]So it's just generally cool things
- [00:02:37.840]on campus in this video but I am
- [00:02:39.930]super excited to see you for Humanities Husker.
