- [99:59:59.999]I have a lot of energy but sometimes
- [99:59:59.999]people did not necessarily think that
- [99:59:59.999]that energy matches the energy and individual should have.
- [99:59:59.999]Because I socialize a lot with people.
- [99:59:59.999]But I'm an introvert.
- [99:59:59.999]Deep down, that I know.
- [99:59:59.999]I studied at my elementary
- [99:59:59.999]school and high school in Rwanda.
- [99:59:59.999]I came to Nebraska in 2016 when I was
- [99:59:59.999]going to start my undergrad studies at
- [99:59:59.999]the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [99:59:59.999]I'm going to introduce
- [99:59:59.999]our first performer.
- [99:59:59.999]Her name is Tania.
- [99:59:59.999]She's coming all the way from Rwanda
- [99:59:59.999]we can say.
- [99:59:59.999]Her work is inspired by her grandfather who
- [99:59:59.999]was an artist in Rwanda. She wants to pursue
- [99:59:59.999]an artistic career that's economically
- [99:59:59.999]socially and politically contributes to
- [99:59:59.999]the rise of Africa. She was officially
- [99:59:59.999]journey in 2019 in hopes of bring to life
- [99:59:59.999]multiple creations that will be
- [99:59:59.999]validated by for future generations to
- [99:59:59.999]come. So if everyone could give her a big
- [99:59:59.999]round of applause welcoming Tania.
- [99:59:59.999]Singing: I just wanna
- [99:59:59.999]be free.
- [99:59:59.999]Free from these chains.
- [99:59:59.999]Before they drag me down.
- [99:59:59.999]and I just want to be free.
- [99:59:59.999]Free like a bird.
- [99:59:59.999]Flying the fair skies.
- [99:59:59.999]The first thing I did when I came
- [99:59:59.999]to Nebraska was to buy a guitar. And at
- [99:59:59.999]that time I did not play any instrument
- [99:59:59.999]so I had to watch a lot of YouTube
- [99:59:59.999]tutorials to teach myself everything
- [99:59:59.999]that I know now. 2019 has been a year of
- [99:59:59.999]the genesis of my music. I have been able
- [99:59:59.999]to write and release, and release a
- [99:59:59.999]couple of songs. My first song that I
- [99:59:59.999]released in approach is called freedom
- [99:59:59.999]It's personal to me because
- [99:59:59.999]through it I expressed to the world that
- [99:59:59.999]sometimes things are dark and sometime
- [99:59:59.999]you need to find your light to walk
- [99:59:59.999]forwards. My second released is a song
- [99:59:59.999]called Kilimanjaro. It's a love song that
- [99:59:59.999]expresses the magnitude of love between
- [99:59:59.999]two African people. And it's so far I
- [99:59:59.999]would say my favorite creation. Well I
- [99:59:59.999]don't do well with expressing so music
- [99:59:59.999]has always been that kind of escape room.
- [99:59:59.999]It's a it's a kind of channel I used to
- [99:59:59.999]direct the emotions and feelings to the
- [99:59:59.999]world. I believe that through music you
- [99:59:59.999]can tell a lot about a generation.
- [99:59:59.999]culture, social status, values, and the
- [99:59:59.999]list goes on and on.
- [99:59:59.999]Music is a necessity and a need that needs
- [99:59:59.999]to be met for every human being to go on
- [99:59:59.999]with their life.
