[00:00:07.250]Like, how can you help international students
[00:00:09.456]to become successful?
[00:00:11.010]That's a great question.
[00:00:12.420]So my role here at UNO is to design
[00:00:14.780]cultural and co-curricular programs.
[00:00:17.336]So for example the first week that students are on campus
[00:00:21.200]we offer a lunch and learn session where we talk about
[00:00:24.300]an introduction to the United States higher ed system.
[00:00:27.480]So kind of gives international students like a little taste
[00:00:31.110]of what to expect for their first year.
[00:00:33.210]On top of that we offer cultural programming
[00:00:36.000]so we'll take students to the zoo, we do a welcome
[00:00:40.160]ice cream social at the very beginning as well.
[00:00:43.130]We have a website that lists all of our upcoming events.
[00:00:46.459]What is this Global Peer Mentors program?
[00:00:50.020]So we have sixteen global peer mentors that are
[00:00:53.090]assigned to brand new international students.
[00:00:56.370]So that means every new international student at UNO
[00:01:00.260]should receive emails and updates from a global peer mentor
[00:01:04.570]which is an upper class international student.
[00:01:07.510]Eventually they invite students to different events
[00:01:09.960]on campus and help offer assistance to any of the questions
[00:01:14.179]that students might not ask me in a professional setting.

[00:01:18.485]So where's the best place to eat on campus.

[00:01:22.040]Every international student should have heard from
[00:01:25.300]their global peer mentor within the first few weeks
